Yes, known as a slimes dam they were always designed to be pumped around as needed, now with new processing they can extract lost metals, plus the land is worth money for industrial zoning.
They have been remining the slime dams for a while now as previous methods of Gold extraction were not as effective as current methods ,so there still some residual gold ore in the dumps aswell as other minerals that were previously not in such high demand such as uranium
