  • This video looks into the meaning of Ruto's Madaraka day speech to the common mwanainchi in the following areas;
    1.What is the meaning of increased taxes?
    Response: Some taxes are justifiable while others are inevitable, and are necessitated by miscalculations done years ago. Some may slow down the economy.
    2. Is Housing levy justifiable?
    Response: It is as one way of housing poor kenyans and restoring their dignity. It can also enhance unity and equality.
    3. Are food prices are likely to increase?
    Response: No since the harvest time is few months away, while rains have been adequate.
    4. Is there historical precedence to where the country is?
    Response: Yes there is. Our situation is comparable to the great depression of the 1920s and 1930s. It can be alleviated by increased public spending
    5. Is the overall policy of increasing taxes and also public spending sound?
    Response: yes, it facilitates public spending which invigorates the economy in recession. This response is timely, noting that Kenya's key partners such as UK and Germany are entering a recession while IMF lowered growth forecast for Uganda and Tanzania.
    6. Is there likely to be maandamano against taxes?
    Response: not really. Any maandamano will be seen as a continuation of previous reckless love for rioting and destruction of business.
