In addition, he is very dedicated to his work and put in a lot of effort in seeking new styles of singing to improve himself. He is also able to sing in various languages. Yes, he totally created the new way to sing Chinese opera. First singer I know to mix rap and Chinese opera that doesn’t sound or feel weird. Other singers have tried to mix Chinese style songs with rock or rap but it feels weird to me. They just don’t have that smoothness, it feels somewhat lacking. By his professional he can go to international stage long ago. I hope he can find that confidence soon.
I always enjoy your detailed, erudite analyses. It was interesting to hear you talk about the complexities of translation. Losing not only meaning, but also charm, is a risk. However, for me this song is so visually and musically gorgeous that the translation is not that important. I loved getting lost in its many layers, and in my own imagination. Zhou Shen is a joy.
His male voice is amazing too. It reminded me of the Chinese Classical music instrument eru. Smooth and gentle as the sound of eru. I guess that what it means to have the song singing by itself not the singer singing the song. 😂
