Lyrics:
The king and his men
Stole the queen from her bed
And bound her in her bones
The seas be ours
And by the powers
Where we will, we'll roam
Yo, ho, all together
Hoist the colours high
Heave ho, thieves and beggars
Never shall we die
Yo, ho, haul together
Hoist the colours high
Heave ho, thieves and beggars
Never shall we die
Some men have died
And some are alive
And others sail on the sea
- With the keys to the cage...
And the Devil to pay
We lay to Fiddler's Green!
The bell has been raised
From its watery grave...
Do you hear its sepulchral tone?
We are a call to all
Pay heed the squall
And turn your sail toward home!
Yo, ho, all together
Hoist the colours high
Heave ho, thieves and beggars
Never shall we die!

It's exhilarating to finally hear the whole version of this song, instead of just verse 2 in a TH-cam short!
Amen!
There's a 12 and 10 year old video with the full version somewhere on TH-cam. I don't remember which I first listened to, or if they are the same, though.
Yes!!
What is the song about Any back side story ???
@@khansolo.69 The song was written for _Pirates of the Caribbean 3_ to tell the tale of the goddess Calypso, Davy Jones, and the Pirate Court. Below is my analysis (I did this years ago).
*The Chorus:*
_Yo ho, haul together_
_Hoist the colors high_
_Heave ho, thieves and beggars_
_Never shall we die_
The chorus is sung numerous times within the song. It's basically telling the pirates, full of thieves and beggers, to get ready to set sail. The lyrics here are obvious in meaning.
*First verse:*
_The King and his men_
_stole the Queen from her bed_
_and bound her in her bones_
The King was the Pirate King at that time, and while his identity is unknown, I believe him to be Jones himself (my own little theory). The King's men refers to the Brethren Court. The Queen is Calypso, her bed is the sea, and binding her in her bones refers to binding her to her human form.
_the seas be ours and by the powers_
_where we will we'll roam_
The seas literally belong to the pirates due to having power over Calypso.
*Second verse:*
_Now some have died_
_and some are alive_
_and others sail on sea_
This is a reference to the chorus of the song, which mention the pirates as thieves and beggars. This part of the verse is obvious in meaning.
_with the keys to the cage_
_and the Devil to pay_
The "keys" to the cage are the nine Pieces of Eight, which were used to bind Calypso. The Devil refers to Davy Jones himself since he's the one that told the Brethren Court how to bind her; he's also a devil of sorts, or what I like to call, an ocean-bound Hades.
_we lay to Fiddler's Green._
Fiddler's Green is an after-life of paradise for sailors where a fiddle never stops playing, but in the POTC universe, it is a tavern located in Davy Jones' locker. It might have a fiddle playing inside to fit the narrative.
*Third verse:*
_The bell has been raised_
_From it's watery grave..._
_Do you hear it's sepulchral tone?_
_A call to all_
_Pay head the squall_
_And turn your sails to home!_
This entire verse may refer to the scene of POTC where the pirates sing their song, and the Brethren Court is summoned to join together. A "all pirates unite" type of moment.
National anthem of oceans 🌊
North Sea only mate
*HEEVE HOOO* 🫡⚓🌊
Naw not a national anthem. It's the tune of the sea. Far beyond anything humans could or ever will do. Behold the power of the sea, as it is far beyond human comprehension.
I agree but also North Sea national anthem
The power of bass singers right here!!!
I wish I had subwoofers to use listening to this.. I'd probably feel tones like here in the walls and all around me
The vocals is like God is coming anytime soon. Kudos to these beautiful voices of Men.
Did you assume their gender ? hahahahaha
Hahahaahah should I address the as They/them?@@TowMater603
@@TowMater603 there's only 2 genders.
@@TowMater603да, очевидно, это люди мужского пола. Вопросы?
@@bebeka_Yeah i don't speak symbols. English you fool !
God's world is beautiful. We as humans find it scary, but it shows a glimpse of God's wisdom and power. Another kind of beauty.
The best part of ocean history told in one song!!!!
How many of them watched North Sea videos and came here to listen music
🤚
Yep, me.
Hhhereeee
Me😂
Me too
The voices are exceptionals 😮 They don't reach down to the basement but to the deepest inner core of the earth. What a beautiful song.
👏👏👏👏👏
Octavism
Such a beautiful song we woulda been pirates let’s be real boys
Ultimate respect for the sheer power of mother nature and the men that traverse these dangerous oceans
I'm still amazed with the low bass singer in this, he does so good at singing low low, without loosing tone or sustainment.
I agree!!! I am amazed someone has a voice that can reach such low notes!!😃
They have big balls lol😮😊
This recording was done by Bobby Bass and a few other bass singer TH-cam content creators.
Paul Robeson
This is some of the best music on the face of the planet.
Yes, and the mysty mountain too from "Hobbit"
ol fortuna from da old spice ad when i was a kiiid. that rocks deep

On face of the oceans.
The tone of the voices, it is just perfect and connect to your inner soul somehow.
Mexe com a essência
It is the octavists who sing so low, if you want to hear more
This song is hauntingly beautiful.
I'm obsessed with this song!!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Me too. Impresive voices....
i love this song
National anthem of the sea ⛵🌊
Caribbean from Puerto Rico.. Hoist the colours high 🇵🇷 🇺🇸
Never shall we die!
I didn't even realize I was hardly breathing until the end of the song! All I can say is just...WOW!!!!
You reminded me to breathe thanks lol
Oh god now I have to manually breathe
Me too 😮
They’re going on tour!!!!
A song that feels like the end is soon
Because that is exactly when it is supposed to be sung..at the end of it all when you are at your most desperate and in need of great aid. Pirates of the Caribbean made great use of it and the history of the song.
Love the norse kick to the song.
I absolutely love the deep vocals here.
It's a type of singing called octavism.
The Wellermen are just about the best group to perform this song. Just yesterday I received their CD and spent most of today listening to it. I thank you from the bottom of my soul you made it available. The Wellermen are without peer in acapella performing. Their harmony, vocal intonation and clarity of their voices are so superb it almost brings me to tears listening to them. They recorded a great selection of songs on the album, many I'd never heard before but will want to listen to again and again.
Search up peyton perrish on this song
@@mikeferruzza6915 Thank you! Hmmm, would his style be called Norse metal? I bookmarked his channel for later viewing. Got more mundane things to do today before that.😠 Life calls...
yall know the meaning of the song right? the meaning of the song is A dangerous song to be singing...for any who are ignorant of its meaning." The song Hoist the Colours told the tale of the binding of Calypso (Marilyn's real mother) by the Pirate King and the first Brethren Court. It was also used as the method of summoning the Court to stand together in the pirates' most dire need.
It don't matter what it means it it a good song
@@user-jo3jf6mb9b i know i like the song too
it does matter ... thx for mention the background of it
Why it’s dangerous to be singing ?
careful with the word "ignorant". Thats definitely uncalled for
That ending is epic!
Sooo gooood!
This song is the epitome of the ocean
Their voices just hit to the SOUL...
Anyone who served anytime in a ship (war or merchant) at a rough ocean real experience, simply can not ignore this song...
I JUST CANT!!!
Sea men have my forever respect. Putting up an sometimes unwinnable fight against nature just so we puny humans can do a little bit better..
When I was maybe 3 or 4 years old (74 years ago) I heard this song for the very first time. The only words I understood were, "Yo ho. All hands. Hoist tha ... tha" in a very deep male voice. After that, I hummed along as best I could. Even at that young age, to me it was a foreboding song that belonged to the horrors (sharks, giant squid, and otherwise ugly sea creatures) of the deep. When I was ten or so and would go fishing with my dad and something ominous would begin to happen, I would break out singing those few words I knew, and would continue humming. That's all I ever knew about the song until now. "Yo ho ..."
こんなにドラマチックな一曲はないよ
素晴らし過ぎる
This song hits on a different frequency than other music. It’s soo soothing
This makes me want to construct a steel colossus and travel across endless blue void for months on end
Under the steely gaze of the Northern Lights, the vast expanse unfurls. No gentle caress of waves here, but a churn of endless grey, a canvas whipped by howling winds. Icy fingers grip at the lone vessel, testing its resolve against the unrelenting surge. This is no playground for the faint of heart, but a proving ground for the leviathans of the deep.
Here, behemoths clad in barnacles pierce the churning surface, their mournful calls echoing across the desolate expanse. Jagged cliffs, sentinels of ages past, stand defiant against the endless assault, their peaks shrouded in an ethereal mist. The very air vibrates with a raw, untamed energy, a constant challenge to those who dare enter its domain.
Only the hardiest souls, the veterans forged in the crucible of a thousand storms, would dare navigate these unforgiving waters. Their vessels, testaments to generations of hard-won knowledge, creak and groan under the relentless assault, each creak a story etched in salt and spray. Yet, within their weathered hulls burns an unwavering determination, a spirit that mirrors the untamed wilderness they navigate.
For those who seek solace in the familiar embrace of calm shores, this is a realm best left unexplored. But for those who yearn for a challenge that tests the very limits of their mettle, the Northern Sea beckons with a siren song, a promise of adventure etched in ice and brine. So raise your sails, brave hearts, and set course for the untamed north, for only there can true legends be forged.
Dude do you write novels or something?
Cus that’s pretty cool.

You'll most likely come to your demise
I just found it and have to go down and listen this in car :)
This is one of the most beautiful things humanity has ever come together to create. Those deep voices just somehow have the ability to touch something that´s deep, deep in us all, deeper than the sea the voices are singing about... magical.
Try octavists they have deep voices.
@@mirt-mirtbass has the deepest of voices
Octavists are really low bases
Like C1 range
The voices are so deep. I think it's actually the ocean itself singing
Try octavism
This has given me a new respect for sailors.
That should be 'Fiddler's Green,' the afterlife where good sailors go.
"Feed the scream" is pretty metal tho
You are correct, btw
My bones may never stop feeling the reverberations of that heavenly bass and I could live off of the feeling
The anthem of ocean
Deep+scary+beauty= touch the soul❤
This song reminds me of Pirates and Vikings. Truly an epic music ❤❤❤
wow, love this version of the song. Your voices are incredible!
Chills activated.
When I started seeing videos the water and the boats and the sound of your all's voices, put tears in my eyes. I seriously would never get on those boats. You guys are awesome❤
Still remember when i first heard this in the Pirates of the Caribbean. Hans Zimmer was a genius for creating this one, fits so amazingly with the pirate theme.
This is easily one of my favorite songs!!! So happy to have found it on a TH-cam short!!
I’m listening to this while walking through a low tide ocean reef in the black of night
Wow that’s scary
I'm just here for the lyrics and his voice or their voices. 😂thanks sea videos❤
That's the lullaby every male infant needs to sleep.
Magical voices, bravo..👏👏
This song is actually like really good, it’s powerful and broad. I get goosebumps. 🔥🔥🔥

Incredible voices! Love it.
I love how you arranged the scary oceanic visuals to suit this dramatic song.
It's so hauntingly beautiful! It calls to my spirit.

What beautiful vocals
Absolutely LOVE IT. I spent 6 years in the US Navy and two times while aboard an amphibious ship we were in rough seas like you have seen in this video. They look cool but if you are actually there you are terrified. Moving water has 14 horsepower per cubic foot. It can dent 1/2 inch thick steel!

What a beautiful song...

As a fisherman for a long time, north sea or not. I'm not stupid or crazy enough to f*ck with what hides beneath to go for a dip, it doesn't take sea monsters. Rip tides, certain types of waves. Nope! Im on the boat, you play with the fishes.
Yo ho, all hands, hoist the colors high, heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die
OMG just a haunting & beautiful rendition of this song! Had to look it up!!! This song 🎵 is crazy in my brain!!!! Love love love it!!! Thank you!!!

National Anthem of Ocean 🌊

I agree a Navy accompaniment to this song or just ships at sea to this song.
I just heard it for the first time today I didn't know it went to the movie parts of the Caribbean this is such a haunting beautiful song and it honors all the Shipmates out there and ones that love to see I'm going through many videos and I can't believe there's not one out there that just has ships the ocean and their song that you can hear.
