Matt Walsh calling people weird when he said 14 year old girls are the most fertile is quite ironic
IKR 😂😂
Right wing Boomers were all about conformity. Weird is a dire insult to them. Only hippies and nerds were weird. That's why they get so upset when you call them weird. You're attacking the foundation of their entire self identity and world-view.
Yeah but they’re weird. The world left them behind. Also I’ve met a few boomers who were cool and generally they were the hippie types and that’s because the conformity types tended to live longer and are still alive but the hippie ones who are still alive are pretty cool. But even my grandfather who was born in 1938 thought these right wingers were strange.
@@marklewen9384 okay but we don’t live there. We aren’t immersed in that culture. Baby boomers is a term for westerners born after world war 2 not countries you named. So when someone says baby boomers they intrinsically think westerners

Dude, Trump got 74 million votes four years ago. A disproportionate number of those votes were from "boomers" and many don't conform to the old, stuffy conservative stereotype.
That said, I don't think "weird" is necessarily bad branding by the Dems

Can we move on from calling them weirdos and refer to them more truthfully as creepy?
Oh they can be both, and they definitely are, and much more. Many things to emphasize, but it is certainly a question as to what, when there is soo much...
I thought so too but with more thought weird felt better. Creepy has more syllables so it won’t catch on fast because it doesn’t stick in people’s minds as ez as weird. And weird has been in people’s vernacular since middle school. So the branding is innate in that sense. It’s less about being accurate and more about vibes. At least in my opinion.

"in a sense, the word "weird" is like "queer" - it's not a pejorative if you're comfortable with the fact that you fall outside the norm in that respect. but if you call (or insinuate) that a straight person is "queer" they will sometimes flip the fuck out... to put it another way: they are so invested in their worldviews/lifestyles being the "one true & righteous way" that they consider it an insult if anyone suggests otherwise. So much like there is nothing wrong with being queer, there is nothing wrong with being weird. but if they idea of being different from the norm (sexuality or otherwise) freaks you the fuck out, then you most certainly have a problem on your hands. It's not weirdness per se, it's that they are freaked out by any & all forms of difference. That's the point."

@@AwesometownUSA "if they say 'jump!' you say 'how high?' "
Paul: "They just like me fr"
Side story to the Ayn Rand Reaganomics theme.
Sorry its longish and this is the short version.
I'm an Australian Engineer and back in 2016 I had this odd little consulting job into our energy sector. I started with a degree in aerospace but work in industrial control systems. So domestic energy wasn't my normal area. I had heard from various sources we had problems that were not being addressed. What I found horrified me and its amazed me since that nothing has been done. I have since found that the same problem is happening across the entire developed world.
The source of the problem is traceable back to people like Ayn Rand, Ronald Reagan, Milton Freidman, Margret Thatcher and the rest of those clowns like Paul Ryan who they inspired.
The actual problem is that the energy transition was always going to happen because power stations like any other machine WEAR OUT and need to be REPLACED. Added to that is population growth which means that when you replace an older power station the new one needs to be bigger. *HOWEVER because of people like Ayn Rand, Ronald Reagan, Margret Thatcher and in particular Milton Freidman the government MUST NOT fix ANY problem. In their ideology the free market must fix the problem and the government must stay out of the way.*
The problem with this ideology is what happens when there is no free market solution to a problem. Milton Freidman and the Chicago School will go down in history as one of the most destructive institutions in human history. They simply ignored basic facts that were there to be seen.
*For example:* There's no business model to go to the Moon, but I can tell you that by 1987 every dollar spent on the Apollo program had returned $9.50 to the US Government via tax generated by companies (owner profits & worker income) who had been able to gain a competitive advantage in world markets with technologies that came out of the Apollo Program. That $9.50 is now even bigger.
Other than simply generating power to feed into modern energy grids one thing poorly understood is what's needed to keep them stable. The TH-cam Channel "Real Engineering" recently did a superb video on this problem titled "The Problem with Wind Energy." Its not that well titled because solar causes the same problem. In fact almost any power source being fed into a grid can cause the instabilities he mentions. The one type of energy that doesn't cause this problem but mitigates it because they act like giant shock absorbers are very large base load power stations like hydro, nuclear and coal plants.
This is an area where the proponents of nuclear, wind and solar are their own worst enemy. Instead of working together they are fighting each other. Not one of nuclear, wind, solar solve the energy crisis by itself *AND IN THE MIDDLE of the crisis are the Paul Ryan clown brigade who wont let anyone get on a deal with it.*
Sorry for the side story and that it takes time to explain, but Paul Ryan and that Ayn Rand, Milton Freidman, Reaganomics, Thatcherism clown brigade *ARE A VERY REAL PROBLEM.*
Conservatism is and always has been a kink.

Oh so that was a satirical ad then, right? Right??? Please tell me it was satire because I’m genuinely creeped out
@@ManubibiWalsh It was a satirical ad that didn't exaggerate anything. Those are actual Republican stances and words.
I worked with adult survivors of child sexual abuse. The pattern was having a patriarchal family structure, overwhelmingly Christian.
Yup. And this whole thing explains it. They get molested as children. To cope with that abuse they "normalize" that behavior in their mind. Then when they have children they engage in the "normal" behavior they were forced to engage in as children. And since Republicans see children as extensions of themselves at best, and as property at worst, it's okay in their minds that they do that.
They are "their" children so they can do what they want with them. After all, they turned out okay, right?
Just a cycle of abuse supported by the GOP. The "Group of Pedophiles."
Well. It is a Christian nation. This aberrant behaviour is worldwide. It's not normal, but rare, and everywhere.
As I recall, one of the Paul Ryan hypocrisies was that he received Social Security survivor benefits during his college years, and later sought to cut social safety net programs as a politician.
Yep! I remember that too. I fukkin couldn't believe someone could be so shallow and superficial.
Participating in a system while believing the system should be changed is not hypocrisy. Especially if the participation was many years ago. And fuck you for making me defend Paul Ryan.
That stuff doesn’t matter to the average voter…this type of ad showing them as weird and sweaty is a far better line of attack than hypocrisy shaming constantly.

In the early 80s, my dad was the pastor of a church in a fairly rural town in Devon, England. One Sunday, two people he described as “transvestites” (that was the general term at the time. He’s not sure if they were cross-dressers or trans women) in full church lady attire (including the biggest, floppiest hats he’d ever seen) walked into the building after the service had started, and sat right on the front pew. They sat next to an older woman (I’ll refer to her as Mary) who had a reputation for being stuck-up and rude. Without flinching, Mary offered her hymn book to them to share, then she shared her husband’s hymn book.
The ladies left before the service ended, and shook Mary’s and her husband’s hands before quietly leaving. Apparently they showed up again a couple of times, but they always arrived late and left early so nobody got to know them.
This was 40 years ago. Although it was an unusual scenario, nobody in the church was vocally rude to them. Nobody called them abominations or threw them out of the church. They were treated like anyone else. I feel like if that were to happen now, particularly in a conservative Evangelical church (thankfully my dad isn’t conservative), there would be an uproar.

Why would he? He is perfectly reasonable and normal. He just wants to inspect your kids' genitals to make sure they are not trans and then monitor that they're only being used for procreation, like God™ intended.
Yeah, we’re not talkin’ quirky weird that can give people character. We’re talking fked up weird.
Sad weird, bad weird

There’s a huge difference between “eccentric” and “creepy”
Yes, eccentric weird is refreshing and endearing. Creepy weird is just creepy.
JDV is now concerned about if you if have kids or not, next will be if you have kids, did you have a C-section or vag birth, did you have a natural birth or did you get an epidural? and on and on...
“They not like us”! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
this reminds me of someone i knew whose family was so insular that she thought dipping grilled cheese in orange soda was typical
Seems like that family just loves consuming orange things. Trump better watch out… they might eat him. 😂
I'm 63 and grew up in a single parent home, I was constantly being told that most people were like Leave it to beaver or Father knows best and it was nearly 1980 before statistics were actually gathered and I think about 40% were in that situation. My mom's sister's first husband slapped her around and the Catholic church told her to stay, and she was excommunicated for divorcing and eventually remarrying
I hope she is happy now
Weird Al? Good.
Weird JD? Bad.
Emma is so frigging knowledgeable.
Mouth stuff isn’t just a sin, it’s a super sexy sin.
Wow, I'm watching this ad for the first time, I heard it earlier, and it was creepy, watching it was somehow creepier. It perfectly encapsulates Trump, Vance, and the Republican party, the core of what they believe and want.
it's hard to see a divorced dude on the highway with a van full of FJB and let's go brandon bumper stickers and not think that person is weird
My favorite part is when the guy does the hand puppet and says , "Don't you think that's normal?".
Don't call them weird. Call them creeps. *_As a proud weirdo, I am deeply offended by the common use of "weird" (and similar words), as something that is inherently negative._*
I will never forget Paul Ryan explaining how he thinks health insurance should be set up.
Its kinda funny to me that the yeehaw rebel hell yeah crowd are just a bunch of conformist squares lol 😂
Eccentric is cool. Weird isn't.
there's quirky weird and creepy weird
10:30 "Left wing authoritarians" is an oxymoron. If you're a left winger in truth rather than just aesthetically then you are against authoritarianism. The left is anti-hierarchy, the right is pro-hierarchy, so people who identify with the left but seek to uphold hierarchy are just aesthetically left, or else "left in specific areas, right in others." (This is also why Maoists, Stalinists etc are not on the left. They want "better governance," not socialism or communism. Bluntly, "their heart is in the right place," but so are the hearts of the far right trying to create social order through hierarchy. It doesn't matter where your "heart" is, it matters whether or not you fight for equality/democracy or hierarchy/authoritarianism. Your morals/benevolence/etc just make you "good or bad" relative to others, they don't make you left/right.)
Love the ad. That should play on all channels all the time.
Just call them creepy. It's undeniable. Weird has too much wiggle room.
The reason "weird" hits so hard is how much they value conformity
A creep can still conform, a weirdo is just weird
@@Jay-ju6yd It might offend them but weird can have a positive connotation too. Definitely not in this context, but I would still prefer a stronger descriptor with no way to spin it into a positive.
@@Jay-ju6yd Also creep is synonymous with pervert which means abnormal at its core, the corruption of what is acceptable, natural, or right. And if you are not normal, that would signify how you are outside of conformity and what is socially acceptable.
Agree.
"Creepy" is better.
Brilliant. Thats so hilarious
Excellent ad, and y'all providing a great mix of genuine and funny commentary.

@@lawrence208 its interesting that the best defence you have to being called weird is strawmanning the existence of an entire underclass of humans sure seems pretty weird to me, a normal person doesnt think your genitals are the most important part of your character.
