I’m the opposite, I hate the new vachetta look. It’s too light and even the honey color is too light. I love it when it evenly darkens to a dark dark color. It can get dark without being dirty. I like it when it looks like it’s been used but taken care of used…if that makes any sense! 😂
I love the patina to a certain point. When its dark brownish I agree it looks dirty but yours is like honey its gorgeous! I saw somebody on YT : when it got to dark he wipped off the vachetta with baby wipes and it became 1-2 shades lighter. Need to try this!
It doesn't always turn brown though. I have some pieces that are 20+ years old and they just stopped at the honey stage and the vachetta has this sealed glossiness to it.
I absolutely LOVE the truth about this. I absolutely HATE when you tubers talk about a bag being a “forever” bag or something they will never sell and then 6 months later they are selling it. Thank you as always for your honesty!
You can always turn it into your makeup, toiletries, hair supply bag when traveling… just put everything in there and use it until it’s time to say “bye bye.” Or have something else made out of the canvas
I just ordered ANOTHER speedy last night. I love love love the patina on my bags. I am a germ freak person and have never bought used. I have seen women carrying bags that honestly look like they need to be put back in the trash can. LV is a heritage brand and for me I don’t buy into the hype of an influencer saying to buy or not to buy. I watch for opinions and that’s about it. Even with that I am careful because influencers are given so much as gifts to promote. I think it is totally cool that you are sharing that your opinion has changed about LV leather on the canvas bags. I personally think your speedy looks perfect!🥰

If you still want the bag and the only issue is the vachette, would it make better sense to have LV change the vachette? It may be cheaper than the loss on buying a new one and the new Speedy canvas may not be as good as the canvas on the Speedy you have. (I heard an estimate of 600euros, but that is not confirmed with LV.) Something to think about. Thank you for the video!
I had to have the LV Artsy. Now 4-5 years later I prefer a crossbody or wearing a belt bag crossbody. I don’t carry large wallets either anymore. Our styles change & that’s ok. My poor Artsy is just sitting lonely because it’s too big for me now. I don’t enjoy shoulder aches & large bags. We all change, we all love & let go. I’m so glad you were so honest. Thank you!!
Speedy is for sure a classic. The patina on your bag is perfect but I do agree with you, once it gets too much past that stage it gets dingy looking. It’s hard to keep it at that “just right” stage.💗💗
My Speedy B 30 was my first luxury bag purchase about 8 years ago. My one regret was buying the 30 & not the 25. I actually love patina, especially when it is that nice caramel colour. I honestly don’t wear it often due to the size but I can’t see myself selling it.

Patina…it’s such a personal journey! I used to hate Patina…never wanted to purchase anything preloved for that reason, but oddly, I now LOVE PATINA! There are some that are too dark that feels dirty and abused, but the beautiful golden color now gives me comfort. It allows me to enjoy the bag and not worry about the “first spot”! I do understand that the flood and mold issues were the final straw in stealing all joy from using the bag. I get it!!!! It’s time to move on! As I curate my own collection, I will often change my mind on something . I guess it’s just part of the process! 🤗

Oooooooh. I have to disagree dear Jerusha. I absolutely cannot and will not ever part with my Speedy 25B. I love it too much. And I LOVE the patina as it ages. In my humble opinion, that’s the look the bag’s leather should have. It’s well loved, it’s a natural process, and proves that the Louis Vuitton name will carry on. It also proves the integrity and longevity of these iconic bags. To discard our bags due to the patina is crazy girl! I also have a vintage Speedy 30 and a Giant Reverse Monogram Speedy 30. I can honestly say that all three will stay in my collection forever. I’m so happy to have them. The longer they’re with me, the more I love them. It’s ok, you’re opinion can change. You do what makes you happy! That’s all. 😉❤️😘

You've used the bag a ton, and have gotten well over your money's worth. It's okay to let things go and no one should make you feel bad for doing so. The bag has served its purpose.
It’s ok that your opinion changed. My first bag was a SpeedyB 25 in DE. The only reason was because I was so scared of the leather to patina. I then got the Nano Speedy and now I love it more. My Nano is still light but I am in love with the Vintage HLs and can’t wait for it to turn honey.
It’s crazy.. because an Hermes’ Berkin in the colour of this patina is very rare bc it’s so loved.. it’s gorgeous at every stage! And they are making couches in this colour too…. It’s the best colour leather on the market…
I love the look of the honey patina. I try to be careful to always have clean hands when touching the leather. I love my speedy B 30 and it’s my most used bag out of about 20. I think it’s just personal preference.
I'm sorry about the damage to your bag. I remember when you unboxed it. I don't like dark patina either. My Damier Speedy 25 is my favorite bag for fall and winter because it is so durable. I have a vintage 1984 speedy & will change the leather one day but she’s still glows in my eyes. The speedy is a classic it might not be the “it“ bag right now but it will circle back around.
Jerusha, even though the video on your Speedy B 25 mono is a year old I wanted to provide a solution to the musty smell. Shake a good amount of Arm and Hammer baking soda directly into the bag (scary, I know). Let it sit a few days, or until the smell is gone. Vacuum it out. You can place baking soda in an open baggie, but I just poured it in (had nothing to loose). Any remaining baking soda/white spots I brushed out w a damp toothbrush & microfiber cloth. Let it sit in the window/sun to dry. Ding!
Selling and rebuying to only have no or light patina is just a flex that you can afford to buy new. If your vachetta looks dirty clean it! It doesn’t need to look dirty. I had a 20yr old bag that had a beautiful golden patina with no hint of dirt. Learn how to care for your things instead of buying new
So heartbreaking that it had mildew! My very first Louis Vuitton bag that I purchased was the speedy 25 but knowing the vachetta leather I went with the Damier Ebene and I love it! I don’t have to worry about staining or wear over time its my perfect winter bag you should try purchasing the speedy in that canvas & I guarantee you will fall back in love with the speedy! I also do have the neverfull too in monogram and the leather has darkened nicely over the past 4 years but I do worry about when it darkens to that vintage look like you said.
Can’t believe that was 8 years ago when you got that bag. I bought the speedy 25 & 30 vintage because of you. Then all of a sudden you got your speedy 25 B. I was like…. Well I’ll just add a strap to my speedy 25. Lol it got busted up after a while and I put it on the shelf never to be used again. At least I used it to death and never babied it. 😂 some times I think about converting it properly with d rings and a nice chain strap, then I just place it back on the shelf to look at as I come home and it’s the first thing I see with my vintage Louis Vuitton mm backpack and my chanel. You should try charcoal odor absorbing bags to try and get rid of the smell, then maybe you can sell it. I had a full grain leather backpack that REAKED of cigarette. Popped a charcoal bag in it, set it and forget it for a couple of months, and the smell was completely gone. Since you don’t use it anymore, maybe it’ll help with the smell. It wouldn’t hurt to try
Have you considered sending it to a spa to clean it out and have someone add custom artwork to it? Wondering if something like that would help you “restore” your bag and make it unique and special again.
@@blackdiamond4761 It’s the same bag but she recommends the Damier since it is easier to maintain. I went with this one and couldn’t be happier since it is less maintenance and no stains that show up on this canvas.

Thank you for your honesty! I was tossing up between speedy b 25 in monogram vs DE for the longest time but I agree, the aged vachetta on the monogram just looks so dirty and ugly after time.
I was set on the monogram but asked the sales associate for their honest opinion and they made a good point: the speedy handles get a lot of wear because of their design, and therefore the DE would be a better choice. In other designs the monogram won’t show as much wear simply because the vachetta doesn’t get handled as much (example, any shoulder bag or cross body).
Im not a fan of patina but your bag has a gorgeous patina even color. I would rather pay to have the leather exchanged at LV than buy new again. Now, do I have mono with vachetta? Only one….the multipochette. The rest is mono with black leather and Damier Ebene.

And you are absolutely right, it is your opinion and you have all the right to express how you feel about your bag in your own account. You go girl! As for me, I don't mind the medium to slightly dark patina, I guess that's why I am so drawn on vintage Louis Vuitton bags! I have a Speedy 30, purchased 12 yrs ago and it's still light patina and on the other hand I have vintage Noe GM with very dark patina :) All the best!

I have the Speedy B and the PM. My lost its shine story was the PM....I have had two that have been defected out due to glazing on the first and then canvas cracking on the second. I have my third one and don't carry it as much. I am afraid it will fall apart but when I do carry it, I love it. So I get the losing it's shine. Not sure what I will do either.
We almost share the same story. I bought my speedy 30 in Edinburgh in 2004 and it was my first LV bag. I loved it and used it heaps. However, over the past decade, it was stored badly and I think mildew got to it as well and it now has a really musty smell. The vachetta has also darkened a lot and cleaning it did not help. I have put carbon satchels in the bag over the past months and the smell has halved. Like you, I am not sure what to do with it next as the bag has sentimental value but I hardly use it. Am thinking of getting a quote from LV to get the vachetta replaced.
There are just things that we out grow. It’s not like you hate it, it’s just that you’re over with it to the point that you just don’t feel the need to reach for it.
Local LV boutique recommended to me to include a desiccating sachet in my bags, like the ones that come in medicine bottles. If you are having issues with a damp environment this might help. I bought my Speedy B25 in DE to be more all purpose. But I do find the 25 small and difficult to find things inside the bag.
I bought my Speedy B 25 about 5 years ago and it has definitely patina-ed a ton but I still love it. I don’t reach for it as much as I used to because I have more bags than I used to including a reverse pochette metis that I love and I think is slightly more versatile (assuming you don’t need to carry as much), but I still love it as a casual bag. It is great for travel if you don’t need something dressier.
Why not try Wonder Wafers? They are leather fresheners. Amazon sells them. You just put one in your bag, seal it and check it in a couple of days. No more mildew smell.

If my patina gets away from me, LV has a repair service so we don’t have to part with our favorites ❤️. I have a bag zipper being replaced now with LV. It does take months but I know it will be worth it to have it done right . This situation might be a good opportunity to showcase bag repair if you don’t part with it. I’ve seen a couple TH-cam videos where people are saying Louis Vuitton is moving away from their canvas bags (which seems completely unbelievable) but these women have been in the stores and just leather pieces are on display. On the website (I haven’t checked every bag) but every canvas bag that I’ve checked, most of the Neverfulls, the Speedy’s, the Artsy.. they’re mostly out of stock in canvas. All this to say, I almost sold my Speedy B in Damier Azur. I rarely used it, so I felt guilty about keeping it. As I was packing it up to send off I had a pit in my stomach, my husband talked me out of selling it. I’m so happy I didn’t because even though I don’t grab for it…like you’re talking about in this video, we change our minds after time and maybe down the road I’ll want to use it and it might not be available anymore to purchase. I have the Speedy B, the Neverfull, the Artsy and the Eva clutch. I just don’t think I would ever sell… I have two daughters as well. But just something to think about if this crazy canvas rumor is true.

How about bring it into LV and have them change out the patina vachetta? I’ve seen people do that and the bag comes back like brand new! Much cheaper than buying brand new. For the mold, either LV could replace the lining or bring it to a professional that does bag spas. They do incredible jobs!

Tastes change. I was first attracted to LV because of the old saddle look and couldn’t stand the white/pink raw leather of new bags. Glad they’re now producing caramel and pretreated, which is a little darker.

My first Speedy was a French Co 25 in 1986. It had pre-tanned leather which never changed. It also had a removable strap which I loved and hated. I was in 7th grade, what a brat. LOL. The next one I got was 30 in 1990 along with a Noe, double brat. I used those 3 bags until I was about 28/29. I would not use any other brand those 3 purses were all I needed. This next thing is awful. I was a child, and the first thing my teenage brain did was, "TAN THE LEATHER", with baby oil!!!!... I don't know if the leather was different in 1990? But, after it dried, it was slightly darker, moved to a beautiful honey and never got any darker. Around 2002, I broke up with my Speedy's. They were sent away to a suitcase and never thought about them, for a long time... Then I had a mid-life-purse crisis. Fast forward to 2018, I NEEDED my first love to return. Afraid I would stop loving Speedy again I held off until 2020. When I purchased a Speedy Mono 35 on 2.27.2020, days later there was a price increase. Two weeks later lockdowns started, and I was so glad I bought when I did. This time I did not baby oil my leather, but I have baby wiped it every 2 weeks. So far the color is even lovely and no water stains. :) When you are thinking about a purse divorce you have to decide who is MOST at fault. It's okay that you went out and tried other styles and sizes. Your love for the Speedy-B 25 was still there otherwise you would have sold it. But, that bag has an odor problem, that it can not let go of. That mold is deep in pores and seams. Jerusha, you tired to get it help and it didn't work. In a few months another Speedy may walk back into your life. Keep your heart and mind open to the different sizes, styles, you never know what you might love. I'm with a 35 now and I could not be happier! BTW- it's not too big. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I think when a bag starts to patina it does make it look old. I have a coach wallet that was brought in the '80s that is very patented. The leather looks old but the rest of the wallet still looks new.
I totally get it. I have seen so many LV monogram bags out in the wild that are so dark, dirty and creased that they look like road kill and it has put me off them to the point where I have never owned one and never will. Some vintage bags look fantastic but these just don’t age well.

Condition before you use a baby wipe let it dry then clean ...but use actual water wipes or sent free baby wipes...then recondition

Try dryer softener sheets, if the smell is not too strong, it might help reduce the moldy scent.

Jerusha, even though the video on your Speedy B 25 mono is a year old I wanted to provide a solution to the musty smell. Shake a good amount of Arm and Hammer baking soda directly into the bag (scary, I know). Let it sit a few days, or until the smell is gone. Vacuum it out. You can place baking soda in an open baggie, but I just poured it in (had nothing to loose). Any remaining baking soda/white spots I brushed out w a damp toothbrush & microfiber cloth. Let it sit in the window/sun to dry. Ding!
Selling and rebuying to only have no or light patina is just a flex that you can afford to buy new. If your vachetta looks dirty clean it! It doesn’t need to look dirty. I had a 20yr old bag that had a beautiful golden patina with no hint of dirt. Learn how to care for your things instead of buying new
So heartbreaking that it had mildew! My very first Louis Vuitton bag that I purchased was the speedy 25 but knowing the vachetta leather I went with the Damier Ebene and I love it! I don’t have to worry about staining or wear over time its my perfect winter bag you should try purchasing the speedy in that canvas & I guarantee you will fall back in love with the speedy! I also do have the neverfull too in monogram and the leather has darkened nicely over the past 4 years but I do worry about when it darkens to that vintage look like you said.
Can’t believe that was 8 years ago when you got that bag. I bought the speedy 25 & 30 vintage because of you. Then all of a sudden you got your speedy 25 B. I was like…. Well I’ll just add a strap to my speedy 25. Lol it got busted up after a while and I put it on the shelf never to be used again. At least I used it to death and never babied it. 😂 some times I think about converting it properly with d rings and a nice chain strap, then I just place it back on the shelf to look at as I come home and it’s the first thing I see with my vintage Louis Vuitton mm backpack and my chanel. Gosh they look pretty 😍 😂🤪

You should try charcoal odor absorbing bags to try and get rid of the smell, then maybe you can sell it. I had a full grain leather backpack that REAKED of cigarette. Popped a charcoal bag in it, set it and forget it for a couple of months, and the smell was completely gone. Since you don’t use it anymore, maybe it’ll help with the smell. It wouldn’t hurt to try
Have you considered sending it to a spa to clean it out and have someone add custom artwork to it? Wondering if something like that would help you “restore” your bag and make it unique and special again.

I know that new styles are emerging. but for me speedy are the best. I love them and I have 4 different ones.

Thank you for your honesty! I was tossing up between speedy b 25 in monogram vs DE for the longest time but I agree, the aged vachetta on the monogram just looks so dirty and ugly after time.
I was set on the monogram but asked the sales associate for their honest opinion and they made a good point: the speedy handles get a lot of wear because of their design, and therefore the DE would be a better choice. In other designs the monogram won’t show as much wear simply because the vachetta doesn’t get handled as much (example, any shoulder bag or cross body).
Im not a fan of patina but your bag has a gorgeous patina even color. I would rather pay to have the leather exchanged at LV than buy new again. Now, do I have mono with vachetta? Only one….the multipochette. The rest is mono with black leather and Damier Ebene.
The speedy is a good everyday bag for real ppl , period. I don’t care about hype. I love the speedy. In all versions of it. It’s just good. 💯

And you are absolutely right, it is your opinion and you have all the right to express how you feel about your bag in your own account. You go girl! As for me, I don't mind the medium to slightly dark patina, I guess that's why I am so drawn on vintage Louis Vuitton bags! I have a Speedy 30, purchased 12 yrs ago and it's still light patina and on the other hand I have vintage Noe GM with very dark patina :) All the best!

I have the Speedy B and the PM. My lost its shine story was the PM....I have had two that have been defected out due to glazing on the first and then canvas cracking on the second. I have my third one and don't carry it as much. I am afraid it will fall apart but when I do carry it, I love it. So I get the losing it's shine. Not sure what I will do either.

We almost share the same story. I bought my speedy 30 in Edinburgh in 2004 and it was my first LV bag. I loved it and used it heaps. However, over the past decade, it was stored badly and I think mildew got to it as well and it now has a really musty smell. The vachetta has also darkened a lot and cleaning it did not help. I have put carbon satchels in the bag over the past months and the smell has halved. Like you, I am not sure what to do with it next as the bag has sentimental value but I hardly use it. Am thinking of getting a quote from LV to get the vachetta replaced.
There are just things that we out grow. It’s not like you hate it, it’s just that you’re over with it to the point that you just don’t feel the need to reach for it.
Local LV boutique recommended to me to include a desiccating sachet in my bags, like the ones that come in medicine bottles. If you are having issues with a damp environment this might help. I bought my Speedy B25 in DE to be more all purpose. But I do find the 25 small and difficult to find things inside the bag.

I bought my Speedy B 25 about 5 years ago and it has definitely patina-ed a ton but I still love it. I don’t reach for it as much as I used to because I have more bags than I used to including a reverse pochette metis that I love and I think is slightly more versatile (assuming you don’t need to carry as much), but I still love it as a casual bag. It is great for travel if you don’t need something dressier.
Why not try Wonder Wafers? They are leather fresheners. Amazon sells them. You just put one in your bag, seal it and check it in a couple of days. No more mildew smell.
Thanks for sharing! Fashion is about changing, updating and trying new things and ideas. Speedy is a classic and I’m looking forward to adding one to my collection. If my patina gets away from me, LV has a repair service so we don’t have to part with our favorites ❤️. I have a bag zipper being replaced now with LV. It does take months but I know it will be worth it to have it done right . This situation might be a good opportunity to showcase bag repair if you don’t part with it. I’ve seen a couple TH-cam videos where people are saying Louis Vuitton is moving away from their canvas bags (which seems completely unbelievable) but these women have been in the stores and just leather pieces are on display. On the website (I haven’t checked every bag) but every canvas bag that I’ve checked, most of the Neverfulls, the Speedy’s, the Artsy.. they’re mostly out of stock in canvas. All this to say, I almost sold my Speedy B in Damier Azur. I rarely used it, so I felt guilty about keeping it. As I was packing it up to send off I had a pit in my stomach, my husband talked me out of selling it. I’m so happy I didn’t because even though I don’t grab for it…like you’re talking about in this video, we change our minds after time and maybe down the road I’ll want to use it and it might not be available anymore to purchase. I have the Speedy B, the Neverfull, the Artsy and the Eva clutch. I just don’t think I would ever sell… I have two daughters as well. But just something to think about if this crazy canvas rumor is true.

How about bring it into LV and have them change out the patina vachetta? I’ve seen people do that and the bag comes back like brand new! Much cheaper than buying brand new. For the mold, either LV could replace the lining or bring it to a professional that does bag spas. They do incredible jobs!

Tastes change. I was first attracted to LV because of the old saddle look and couldn’t stand the white/pink raw leather of new bags. Glad they’re now producing caramel and pretreated, which is a little darker.

My first Speedy was a French Co 25 in 1986. It had pre-tanned leather which never changed. It also had a removable strap which I loved and hated. I was in 7th grade, what a brat. LOL. The next one I got was 30 in 1990 along with a Noe, double brat. I used those 3 bags until I was about 28/29. I would not use any other brand those 3 purses were all I needed. This next thing is awful. I was a child, and the first thing my teenage brain did was, "TAN THE LEATHER", with baby oil!!!!... I don't know if the leather was different in 1990? But, after it dried, it was slightly darker, moved to a beautiful honey and never got any darker. Around 2002, I broke up with my Speedy's. They were sent away to a suitcase and never thought about them, for a long time...
Then I had a mid-life-purse crisis.
Fast forward to 2018, I NEEDED my first love to return. Afraid I would stop loving Speedy again I held off until 2020. When I purchased a Speedy Mono 35 on 2.27.2020, days later there was a price increase. Two weeks later lockdowns started, and I was so glad I bought when I did. This time I did not baby oil my leather, but I have baby wiped it every 2 weeks. So far the color is even lovely and no water stains. :)
When you are thinking about a purse divorce you have to decide who is MOST at fault. It's okay that you went out and tried other styles and sizes. Your love for the Speedy-B 25 was still there otherwise you would have sold it. But, that bag has an odor problem, that it can not let go of. That mold is deep in pores and seams. Jerusha, you tired to get it help and it didn't work. In a few months another Speedy may walk back into your life. Keep your heart and mind open to the different sizes, styles, you never know what you might love. I'm with a 35 now and I could not be happier! BTW- it's not too big. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I think when a bag starts to patina it does make it look old. I have a coach wallet that was brought in the '80s that is very patented. The leather looks old but the rest of the wallet still looks new.
I totally get it. I have seen so many LV monogram bags out in the wild that are so dark, dirty and creased that they look like road kill and it has put me off them to the point where I have never owned one and never will. Some vintage bags look fantastic but these just don’t age well.
