Why do we love Tom and Guthrie so much???? It’s not just their playing which is gorgeous. They are just obviously great dudes. Favourite interview on Ricks channel. The piece they wrote and played together was so good. Refreshing to see genuine music and amazing musicians who are also real people like the rest of us.

It's really cool to see this out of nowhere and a compliment from Tom about it.
I have noticed over the past few years that Tom can play a little bit.
Actually, he has been one of my heroes since I first saw him. As soon as you started watching this dude ripping it up in a garage and being cool you were hooked. It was like all of a sudden you could hang out and listen to Jeff Beck fuck around and teach you shit.

    Solid breakdown champ!
At 5.35 he plays a double stop sliding from the 8th fret on the D and B string down to the 7th and pulls of without plucking the strings again onto the last E chord. It took me a few goes to get but it sounds smooth and buttery compared to the single note run. Toms such a beast at incorporating double stops.

the very last phrase is not G F# E but G# F# E, all played as sixth intervals with the melody note on top. That way it sounds more "chord"-y than just having that melody note alone. Apart from that, lovely breakdown of this, will definitely try to steal this for my playing!

Thats correct! It's the last 2 bars of the turnaround. E7 to B7 and this rundown happens on the E7 bar. Inversions running chromatically down to create tension to the release at the end of the I chord. Nice hey!

@@RiffsRhythm I've begun thinking of this as working off the "D" caged shape making this b7 from the 5th string movable up/down the neck. It makes this work in any key with the root of the "D" caged shape being the 1 chord. The same concept works off the "A" caged shape with the b7 being on the 6th string one fret (half step) above the A shape.

Only down slides in the end. Not up and down. From half a note higher . Listen in slow motion.

Your 3rd one is not what he is playing as he is not using the top strings

the only thing I noticed that was missing was the sixths at the end…on the inside strings just after the B7b9 chord

Great player, sure. But I watched a video of TB's on his channel. In one video, he was so mean, angry and just plain nasty. I was astonished by how ugly he was about whatever it was he found disturbing (whatever he was so bent over was *that* important) that I down voted, unsubscribed and never watched another video of his. I'm *not* easily upset, but the guys angry was truly surprising. Sorry, it's not your fault Mr R&R, I just can't see the guy without being reminded.
