"It isn't really much of a mystery, this occasional need I have to comfort my father. I did something terrible to his son once." is still my favorite book quote of all time John.
Add in the similarities and feelings a song like pink and blue invokes, which I fell connected to as an Oklahoma boy, adopted at nine days old, swaddled in a pink and blue blanket with an eager if unprepared father, and it feels like you can see my life before it has happened.

Obligatory biji biji kurdistan to anything mentioning Kurdish history. ☺️ I actually think I’ve read part of this book at one point, and I was a fan. I remembered once you mentioned Kurdish history.

I am currently blitzing through two books a week, on a current fixation oscillating between buying new cassette tapes and reading. I've just finished Devil House last week (couldn't put it down), and now Im halfway through Rabid: A Cultural History of the World's Most Diabolical Virus. We should have a book club for people who don't consistently check in with one another.

I agree with this idea. I also get fixated on reading. I'm neurodivergent so it can become problematic at times lol.

@@OpioidSlumber lol absolutely same. I spend too much money and time on each of my 150 different hobbies. My apartment is too small for my scattered brain and its collections. A tMG book group would be a cool idea, especially with sporadic discussions of random titles. Delightful!

This is so wonderful! I read Dawn by Sevgi Soysal after I saw how you rated it on your Goodreads and I'm excited to read this one too! Your reviews of Every Fire You Tend and Coming Through Slaughter also excite me to read those as well. I can't wait to see more of these.

JD, have you read any books by Orhan Pamuk, the Turkish writer who was prosecuted for speaking up on behalf of the Kurds and the Armenians? The charges were dropped eventually--although his life was threatened. He later won the Nobel Peace Prize, which he richly deserved. My favorite books are: My Name is Red, The White Castle, The Black Book--and more. I think you'd like him. Lots of info here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orhan_Pamuk
