It had a cracked piston. Installed a new one and it runs great. It was a rebuilt motor, go figure. I posted another video of it running. I now have it wired to my panel.

Hey John These 802 are going for some money. I have a chance to get one of several for about $3000 with a trailer. They want to sell them with trailer. They run but need some maintenance. What’s your opinion. Thank you

@@josephpuchel6497 They’re great generators. Mine had a rebuilt engine but it needed a new piston to get it going. Buy it if it runs. I bought mine at a government surplus for 1,300. Sold the trailer for 1,400 so I had a good deal.

I think I’m going to pick it up. Thank you

Thanks for the comment. When I first got it I suspected either bed compression or injector. Switched injectors and the problem remained in the second cylinder. I’ve been a mechanic for 30 years and this one stumps me. Before I took the head off I went through the whole fuel system again purging all air. When I was bleeding the second pump I saw air bubbles coming through the spilled fuel at the base of the pump. There was a lot of pressure in the crankcase when I pulled out the dipstick. Is this normal on these engines? Shouldn’t there be a breather cap? Maybe this it where my compression is going. Past the rings? Taking the pistons out tomorrow. Hope I’m on the right track.

Could be the rings are stuck causing the blow by. Before pulling the pistons. try putting some oil in each cylinder, and seeing how fast it runs by the rings. I did learn one thing that the cylinders move up and down together, Here's what it looks like www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=1IcDbeoe&id=AEE6AF55F7287055448229C41AD4B7B08CAFC03E&thid=OIP.1IcDbeoemsu81Ih4XWuMAwAAAA&mediaurl=https%3a%2f%2fi.ebayimg.com%2fimages%2fg%2fjF4AAOSwnDxUnwcv%2fs-l300.jpg&exph=169&expw=300&q=mep-802a+crankshaft+&simid=608048677857725885&ck=D190C3F1A1DD61EA4176D5BC1872D5FB&selectedIndex=6&FORM=IRPRST&ajaxhist=0

Pulled the pistons and found number two was broken between the rings in four pieces. I’ll do an update video. Thanks for your help.

@@JohnVH-diy That's what caused the scratches on the cylinder wall. Hopefully a set of new rings will fix the problem

You might have hairline cracks in the cylinder wall. Did you notice any loose of water, or gas bubbles in the radiator fill? Since you got the head off, check to see if any of the valves are leaking. If the cylinder isn't cracked. Then it's most likely cause of the cylinder not firing would be bad compression, faulty injector pump, or injector. Try switching the injectors. If the problem moves it's the injector. I just changed the batteries on mine. They were 18 month batteries, and that's exactly how long they lasted.

John I thought about it. cylinder was probably carboned up because the governor was dumping fuel trying to maintain rpm. Is the cylinder with the broken ring standard, or has it been oversized? I'm wondering if they gaped the rings when they rebuilt it. who Knows? Let us know what you decide to do.

Hey How did you make out with repairs on this unit ? Nice video

I had an Mep 803 with a bent push rod that presented similar problem. If you have a bent push rod on the exhaust side it would not let the exhaust gases escape. What does your intake manifold look like? Did you fix the issue?

Hey John How are you doing with the generator ? Still have this one ? Did you purchase any more ?
    Thanks for any update

I made another video. I took it all apart and found a bad piston . Replaced it and it runs great. I have it connected to my breaker panel. No I didn’t purchase any more but if you go on gov planet you may find one for auction.
