I agree with you about the skeleton. As a 90s kid, I’ve always had a soft spot for the old skeleton design. Though having the newer skeleton design has its perks as well. They did a wonderful job with the new skeleton design in the castle theme with the knights that were fighting the wizard and his skeleton army. Loved that theme and got as many sets from that theme as I could.
This one really was fun to watch you build in the Livestream. I can't believe we missed the booby traps. Definitely explains why the "prison" was in the water now. King Kahuka probably was the mastermind behind all the traps! Haha Thanks Tie!!
Though I never owned any of these, I happen to have the last set to ever contain the rope bridge piece in brown-which was the "Temple of Mount Everest" (7417) set from the Orient Expedition theme from 2003. Apparently, those small 1x1x2/3 plant pieces with spade-shaped leaves on them were retired just two years ago, and the only sets I ever had with them was the "Jungle Cutter" (7626) set from the Indiana Jones theme, and the 2010 incarnation of "Hagrid's Hut" from the Harry Potter theme.
You mean those little plants with the leaves that loved to break off? Lol, yeah those are cool pieces, but way to fragile, probably why they've been retired
@@TieTheLegoGuy Sometimes it's the seemingly minute pieces like that which we don't realize no longer exist. For a while, this was the last set to contain a 16x32 baseplate in blue, until the Creator Expert Taj Mahal, Tower Bridge and Sydney Opera House sets were released in '08, 2010, and 2013, before being retired after the former was re-released in 2017.
While I feel the late pirates sets (1995-1997) were worse than their predecessors, this is an exception. This feels like a slightly more classic feeling adventures set.
Yeah, the sets certainly degraded but were still pretty good. The skull island set is the example of it, less minifigures, worse baseplate, more abrupt with it’s design and less flowing, it’s a dock and a tower on a small rock, nothing surrounding it, no palm tree, barley any shore and no printed or raised baseplate to build up terrain. The actual tower and skull is very well designed (I would argue a better structure than the rock island refuge or forbidden island) but it feels bit incomplete due to the surroundings.
Thanks for reviewing this rare set! I like it, but not as much as earlier pirates sets which were less playful but more elegant in design. This to me feels rough around the edges, also the sudden differences between the two baseplates bother me haha (from smooth to studded, from green to blue). The "European" looking king's crown in the middle of the Caribbean is intrigueing by the way.
Hey no worries happy too, and yeah the older Pirate sets are better. I've since changed my opinion that this is one of the best Pirate sets, its still pretty good though. Really gives off that adventure feel
What a great set...love it! Thanks for sharing it, I wasn't familiar with it. That chrome armor piece is awesome...I hadn't seen it before. Funny story, I started watching this video late last night and fell asleep (because I was tired, not because of the video) and woke up in the middle of your live stream that I missed haha. I got a good deal on a much wanted pirate set on ebay. Not epic like any of my thrift store finds, but I got the Queen Anne's Revenge in great used condition for $230 + $15.50 shipping in an auction. I saw it posted when it was newly listed, and figured it would go for at least $300, but decided to watch it. Then I got a notice it was about to end in an hour and it was only at $182. Knowing how auctions go, I still figured it'd go for too much for me. I waiting til a few seconds and bid $237 and got it for a final price of $230. It was missing a very few parts, which were listed. So I think for about $5, I'll have a like new set for around $250. Hardly cheap, but I've not seen a set, especially in this good of condition (sails, minifigs, etc are perfect). It was the only POTC set I was missing, so now have them all.
Hi this is Tie the Help You Get to Sleep guy lol i am honored if I helped you fall asleep. That is insane! I've always regretted not buying more Caribbean sets, happy you got the last one to finish off your collection 👌
I think you have slightly tinted glasses for this one, it doesn't stand up to a lot of the other pirate sets and relies to heavily on the awesome base-plate in my opinion. Looks like it would be very easy to mod to make a little better though.
I can see that, i just love the overall adventure feel of this one, love the adventurer theme, and this one is kinda a blend of that and pirates. A mod wouldn't be a bad idea as well 😉
I think this set makes an excellent candidate for a comparison video with enchanted island, as they both use the same baseplate and had roughly the same price back in the day. Also I would love to hear which set you think is better, the Pitfall or the enchanted island. I feel like this set here leaves the raised plate a bit empty on the main raised section, by just putting a few plants on there... I love the trap tho :-) Anyway, as always a very nice review of a very nice set.
Oh buddy... thats a difficult choice, gotta get it built and I'll let ya know 😉 the trap is amazing btw, was really impressed by it, just think its dumb the trap was originally red lol
This one gets a lot of unneeded hate in my books, probably cause older Pirate collectors are comparing it against the late 80s and early 90s Pirate sets. It isn't perfect but its definitely not terrible. I like this one too
I loved watching this being built man, it was so fun and its so cool to see it in its full form. Sweet job
Thanks Unknown, yeah its a gooder for sure, thought i should push it out to review quick

That is one of the most underrated Castle themes, really liked that one. Was a bit more fantasy which was cool
Thanks for uploading this review 😍👍 This set is so cool 😎 but its expensive
Totally agree, it is one expensive boi lol
Tie The Lego Guy can you give me feedbacks for my brickfilms? Will be cool 😎
I'll take a look when i can 🤙
Sweet review bro! This set is sick and it was cool to see you stream the build. Love the chrome armor piece
Thanks Daily, and glad you could join the stream 🤙

King Kahuka will get you one way or another, and send his minions to eat ya lol

Beautiful set that makes Lego history!
👍🙋🏻♂️
Completely agree 👌 one of my favorites honestly
I love this one ! Even pretty much 25 years later, this set is still looking awesome ! Great review as usual Tie ! 👍👍
Hey thanks Mohaka, and definitely, it gives a very adventure feel which i like
Such a great set! Really good play value and I love the falling “boulder”!
Thanks Minecorps 🙌 and its one of my favorite features to the set 🔥

Definitely a decent set, not quite Eldorado level, but good

@@TieTheLegoGuy That's a good point. They went creative and adventurous with this one and I can see why you would appreciate that!
Great review! Would love to see all your Pirate sets together!
Thats actually a good idea, could make a collection vid or something
Another great vid. I wish lego would bring back the Pirates theme
Same Jonny, hope the sales continue to be good for Barracuda and LEGO brings em back
Wow, awesome set....great review!
Thanks Miha 🙌
So cool!
thanks for doing review
Happy to Stud 😉
cool set tie.i wish you were in my stream today
Hey Brandon! Heard about that, i was working at the time unfortunately :/ next time 🔥

perfect set

Geez I wouldnt want to fall off that rope bridge anyway lol
Haha wouldn't be a highlight of any LEGO mans day
Anyone else notice Tie’s reflection on Captain Valiant’s armor?
Haha oh no, i guess my face reveal is out
Looks pretty good! It could have used a little bit more buildings or something to make it less empty, but otherwise it looks great.

Wow. Never seen this set before
Its definitely more of an obscure pirate set, and a pretty good one all and all
Land Ho! I spy The Pirates Perilous Pitfall!
Good set 👌 love the rock feature and water trap
@@TieTheLegoGuy I think I might get it next year.
It’s a cool 90s play set for sure, but I don’t think I could ever justify spending $500+ on a build that is mostly just a base plate.
nice set
Thanks Vader, I mean Shell lol
@@TieTheLegoGuy vader is fine, changed it somehow
Thats ok Shell Shocker is more of a unique name I feel, although Vader is never bad
lol it even has a ship!
What happens when you run out of old sets
Ooooof trying to avoid that, but when it comes I'll be sure to still review old themes on the channel overviewing them and showing off the sets
also i have lots of them coins
How much would this set cost if it were new?
Like if this set came out nowadays? I'd say around 120 USD give or take
the only good pirate set of 1996(this could have been and armada dominated wave)
IDK why you like pirates so much lol
Its da best! Or one of em anyways lol
