Kevin, I've been in your shoes. Anxiety, depression the whole nine yards. Peace of mind is more important. Sanity is key to survival. I'll still be here for you. Look forward to future videos. Take care of you.
Back in the early 80s I used to be a very keen amateur photographer and I was asked to do children's portraits. It quickly got out of hand with customers, because that's what they were, demanding that work was done to their timetable. It all ended when I got totally stressed out because I couldn't get the colour balance right on some pictures that I'd promised the next day. The hobby wasn't a hobby anymore. 73 Steve
@@oilydigits 100%. And it isn't the first time I've heard exactly that story. In one way, I'm lucky in that respect. I don't like my job at all. So it'll never be a hobby. But if you want to destroy your hobby, make it your income.
WOW Kevin, that took a LOT of guts to put...GOOD ON YOU!!! I used to have (still do I guess, haven't posted to it in TWO years or so) a vaping review (etc) channel and I KNOW what you mean, it got to a point where I just couldn't put in the 8, 10 maybe 12 hours necessary to record, edit & produce an hour long video anymore. YES, I did TRY to cut it down to 20 or so minutes but WAS NOT what I wanted to do, What I WANTED to do was to educate my viewers not only about what the product was like, but EVERYTHING, good AND bad about it, and I just couldn't DO IT any more, It got to be WORK and some intense WORK at that...NOT FUN!!! I got (A LOT) hell from my viewers about my LONG videos, but I also got support from those who UNDERSTOOD what I was trying to do there...and that REALLY FELT GOOD! Kevin, came here because of the variety. Looking forward to the changes. As a multi-talented engineer, I understand burning out focusing on a single subject for a long time. I tend to carry a lot of different projects for the variety. I also don't like crowds either, and it's just gotten worse with the last couple of years. Carry on!! See you in the next video!
Kevin, been following the channel for a while now and I appreciate your openness and emotion about the channel. I’ve suffered from depression and anxiety my entire life and I know when it hits, it hits hard. I have interest in HAM radio but I follow your channel for you. I’ll definitely continue to be a consistent viewer. Wish you the best buddy! Excited to see where your content goes
Hey Kevin, FWIW many of us watch your channel b/c we appreciate your tinkering and techy testing, pushing our minds out of the fog - I'm sure we'll enjoy what new things you have to show us. Thanks for all you do. Cheers, K7KS
Kevin, I'm not just here for the ham radio content. I'm here because I am genuinely invested in you, your personality, your life and if you make this change, so be it. I will still watch. You do what you need to do to keep yourself happy. You have my full support. - Dave in Dacula, GA
You are not "under contract" to supply particular (or even any!) content. So just have fun, minimise the stress and do whatever you want to do! Most of us will still "like" the channel whatever you put up.
You go man. A change is as good as a holiday. Many of us have been where you are now. Things change and that is the way it is. Stick to your decision and we looking forward to your new venture.
How are you going my friend? I'm in Australia, far away. But we in this day and age are closer than ever. I have a baby son like you do and he keeps me busy every day. He likes to watch me going up and down the ladder getting the SWR just right. Don't have money and it makes things more interesting.
God bless you. I subscribed because of this video. You are a wise man. Those who are mad at you are not worth your time. Their disapproval does not decrease your worth.
Kevin, you have to do what you need to have peace of mind. I had a ham radio commitment that put me in the same situation. Ham radio ceased to be a hobby. We all need diverse interests. I will continue to be a subscriber, and give you my full support. 👍
Kevin, as a lightly autistic engineer who sufferd from a burn out years ago, I know exactly wat you are going through. Good to hear that you passed the most difficult point, and took the right decisions. I will be looking forward to other content. All the best. Jos
Good for you Kevin. I have been in your shoes. I am a musician on the weekends and was the life of the party since I was 17. Full of jokes and laughter and the more people around the better. Had a hiccup back in 97 in my day job that broke my back, shattered a wrist and skull fracture and loss of hearing in one ear. Depression set in with not being able to perform my day job and music. I secluded myself from people and family. Crowds are not my thing anymore even with my old friends it's just not the same. You need to take care of you and your mental health, and yes it is a mental health thing. If people leave because of your change then shame on them. You are what's important here. Everyone deserves to be happy, you only get one life so live it the way you want too. I will keep watching because you challenge my mind and broaden my thinking process. 73
Kevin, I started watching you when I was looking for information on 3D printing and Linux. I have valued all of your content from your house to your trailer. I embrace the eclectic and trust that your content will continue to enlighten. Thank you, and continued success and happiness.
Good for you Kevin, you have to do what you feel is right for you. Remember that the people that watch your channel are there for you just as much as the content and they/we all have the choice to watch or not. Go with your heart, keep your mind and body healthy. I for one we still be here.
It's always hard when your hobby becomes a job, especially so when you're constantly faced with it. Looking forward to future content, Kevin, and most importantly, hope you get some joy and less stress out of it.
Kudos to you Kevin for raising the flag and making a change. I always say that if you stop enjoying something, stop doing it. I have done paid jobs I did not enjoy and it was hard to keep going. Stay safe and stay healthy and keep doing what you enjoy doing, when you want to do it.
Kevin, I've been a viewer since early 2016 when your channel was in its infancy. Heck, you even did a video on a topic I asked about regarding the control box for your mag-loop. What I liked about your channel was the variety. You do you... Heck, you may find that your channel even grows! Take care of yourself man... don't worry about viewership - your quality of life and mental state are what's most important. I, for one, will NOT be removing my Patreon support.
Kevin, Please realize that not everyone who subscribes to your channel, do so for the content; they subscribe for YOU. Take care of your brain and it will take care of you.
You’ve got this Kevin! You’re doing it right with what you’ve said on this video. Amateur radio will always be there, as you already know. We’re not disappointed Kevin. We’re glad that you’re doing the right thing. 👍🙏📻🎧🎤
Kevin, any video you post will be appreciated. Glad you recognized you needed a change and are doing something about it. Most people fall into the hole, you stopped yourself. Good on you.
Kevin, I've been a subscriber for several year now and intend to remain one! I understand your state of mind. I retired from my job of 41 years over 8 years ago and have found a great deal of interest and enjoyment in a few channels - one of which is yours. Im sure I will be interested in whatever you report on. So even that I am a ham and have learned much from you I will continue. What I considered my youtube mentor Joernone seems to have hung it up and I hold no grudges against all that I have got from him. Have a great life!!!!
Kevin, I've been watching you for several years. I have always looked forward to whatever you were up to. Your videos entertain and teach through the curiosity you have. I am curious about lots of things, as well. I trust that your self actualization will bring you a mental and physical pease. We all need that. It just takes some of us longer to realize it. See you in your next video.
Hi Kevin, it's perfectly understandable We are nearly 40k subscribers to appreciate your videos about your ham activity. I am sure plenty of us and many new ones will follow you in your other passions. You are a story teller, on any subject that will work. Impatient to view your other adventures. 73, F1SOC
Hi Kevin, you are both courageous and wise and I applaud you for speaking out about your struggles. I'm sure the decision has been difficult, but your first duty is to yourself and by taking the necessary steps, you will also continue to be a source of knowledge and entertainment to us, your subscribers. Thank you, good luck and be good to yourself. Johnny in Spain.
Honestly, I've always thought of the channel as more of a variety channel with a broad focus on ham radio. I've learned a ton from the videos and really enjoy the content. Looking forward to whatever else you come up with as you have a ton of knowledge to share regardless of the subject. Good luck and can't wait to see what's next.
Kevin, you are absolutely right. Take care of your own health & peace of mind first. As someone with more than one interest I do switch my activities around, too. Looking forward to see what you come up with. Be seeing you!
I also have multiple hobbies and would not want to solely concentrate on one for a long time. I will enjoy whatever you come up with and will continue as a Patreon supporter.
It's all good, Kevin. I look forward to the variety on your channel. I too, like you and my guess a lot of hams also, have varied interests and hobbies: Amateur Radio, astronomy, photography, flight simming, music....the list goes on. Do what you enjoy doing. Your core followers will indeed stay with you.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings. Do things that you believe will bring you happiness and others will follow. I am looking forward to learning different things like audio and photography, so I will tune in. It's all about having fun.
You're enthusiasm for the subjects you love will shine through. Persisting in a subject that has, possibly, become stale will reflect in the TH-cam output. I have thoroughly enjoyed your output and particularly your travel blogs, which have some fantastic insight. Keep up the great work. Diolch (Welsh for thankyou)!
I originally started following this channel for the ham content, but I've enjoyed all of it. As long as you enjoy what you're doing, there will be people who enjoy watching it.
Go for it, Kevin. Live your life as you feel necessary. Started watching for radio but have grown to appreciate all of your travels and non-radio adventures. Feel you are more a friend than a face on youtube. So go for it. Ill keep watching.
You're well being is more important to me and hopefully most of us. Most hams have varying interests. Change when needed is good! Go for it, I'm staying! Thanks es 73, Mike
Kevin, look after yourself first, worry about us later, I appreciate any content you post as I find it interesting, even if I am not a fan of it. and, yes, I am looking forward to whatever content you may wish to send us, 73 al ve3gam
Kevin, I think this is a great idea! Several channels show a bouquet of interests instead of simply one. You're a great youtuber and I look forward to watching your journey.
Hi Kevin! I understand you perfectly! I send you encouragement from Spain and I would like to tell you that the truly important thing in life is to feel good about yourself. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us. 73 friend Kevin!
To thyself be true brother. I'm looking forward to your recording and photography content. I myself am interested in these topics as well as drone photography. Ham radio is but one of my hobbies. I'm excited to follow your new adventures. BTW I follow your channel not just for the radio stuff but rather because you are an interesting guy that I can relate to. Wishing you much success and contentment as you tweek the channel.
Yay, good. When I started watching your channel you had a variety of things and that's what I liked about it and I'm glad you're going back to it. Mental health is a very important thing.
Kevin, I have always appreciated your honest, technically accurate and non-egoist videos about ham radio. But as a friend said to me on my retirement "don't burn out your hobby - have other interests" Take care and all the best, Peter
Thank you Kevin for all the great stuff you have taught me through your videos! You have done so much, don't feel bad if it's time to do something else now! Good luck in whatever you choose to do!
Just keep being you. Your explanations of what peaks your interest at the time will always be well presented like a professor and well liked. Change is the constant in life.
Thank you Kevin for all you have shared and what you will share. I am a ham and an amateur musician and I am learning Cubase 11 DAW and will be probably using Audacity to convert Vinyl LPs and cassette tape to FLAC files, so your tips and techniques will be most helpful. Take good care of yourself.
You are entitled to do absolutely whatever it takes to keep you from making a burn out. Your physical and mental wellness are priorities. #bellletstalk
I like/enjoy your channel very much, seeing a variation of different content will be superb,I will still subscribe! As an aside I went through a similar situation,I did exactly what you intend to do and it was just the therapy I needed, keep going Kev! Best regards from the UK!
Your well being is the most important thing! I will continue to enjoy your content whatever path it takes. Thank you for what you have done in the past and thank you for future things to come.
Your videos are careful and instructive. I'm very much like you with several seemingly incompatible interests. Your thoughts here have helped me with finding my own ongoing balance. I hope all balances out for you going forward. I agree with many of the posters below. Take care of yourself and follow your interests. I'm excited to see what comes next.
Hey Kevin, I'm always interested in what you're up to so I'll still be watching. Sounds like a change is as good as a rest - kind of. That should be good for your mental health surely. I took a rest from Ham Radio, from about 1990 to 2021, that was probably a bit too long. Anyway good luck with whatever it is you're doing, Cheers, G6LTD.
Can't wait to see what's coming down the pipe! I think you're anticipating a much worse reaction than you're going to get. I'd be willing to bet a lot of people are like myself, we came for the ham radio content but stayed for your presentation style and insight. Furthermore it's important not to discount one's mental health, nor should we be reluctant to discuss or address it. Anxiety sucks and can be crippling for some people, so it's good that you left when you did.
Hey Kevin no bombshell at all I’m not going anywhere I will continue to watch and support your videos no matter what they are there’s not many people in the world like you you’re awesome keep it up
Your health, both mental and physical, must come first. I'm looking forward to your adventures with sound / Audacity - and the occassional amateur radio project. I've learnt so much from your videos, for which I'm more than grateful. Thanks for what you've done - and my thanks for what you're GOING to do! Here's to your future! (sound of the clinking of glasses!)
I just went through a similar thing with programming. I'm probably not going to be able to enjoy it as a hobby anymore unless I change to a different line of work. I did get depressed as it felt like losing a close friend. Luckily, when I was a teen a local Elmer piqued my interest and planted the ham radio seed. That lead to playing with the idea of ham radio and that fresh feeling of curiosity and want to tinker has become a breath of fresh air. Your videos have been key in inspiring me on that front as well. I'd say if your passions and curiosities are taking you elsewhere then don't worry about getting back to ham radio anytime soon; it's not going anywhere.
I've got Myalgic Encephalopathy grade 4-5 of 6. I think I know what you're talking about. Hitting the wall happens me frequently. I just have work around it by just doing what I feel is right without it becoming exhausting. What ever exhausting is that day. Reading the paper for example I'll stay with your channel regardless - and I wish you the best! Regards from Scandinavia!
I'd appreciate hearing more about your other interests. I share a lot of the same other interests too and I'm finding a lot of channels tend to be pretty diverse. Atomic Shrimp is a fine example. Sometimes he does cooking stuff, sometimes it's scambating or something else. Just do you. I don't watch your stuff just for ham radio. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you when it comes to mental state and dealing with large groups. I'm a furry and I've had several similar experience at large conventions and ended up leaving early so I know exactly what you're going through. furry conventions can be pretty full on. I tend to hide behind my camera but sometimes something happens and I just can't deal with it any more. A friend of mine had the same issue at a convention in Chicago and spent a fortune to change his flights and fly back to the UK early. Hope you feel better soon but I'll be watching no matter what you make a video about.
Kevin, like others, I'm still with you! Count me in for the variety of interests you have and want to share with all of us. Moderation in all things. Variety is the spice of life.
Having compassion for yourself is good. It has always been about seeing a person do things they enjoy, and if you need to go in a different direction to continue to find enjoyment, that also is good. Will continue to watch, and wish you the best.
You are an inspiration Kevin. I really hope you find peace and tranquility in your newfound interests. I will still continue to watch your videos because they inspire me. Take care my friend.
Fully support it, Kevin. Turning a hobby into a job makes it…a job. Share whatever interests you and has your excitement, not what gets you more views and subscribers and the audience will follow that authenticity that so many others lack. 73
Kevin, I have followed your channel for a number of years and have undertaken some of projects which you have so diligently made into Vlogs. Including 3D printing, model aircraft, drones and a few other interesting subjects including Amateur Radio. Variety is the spice of life and many Hams have similar interests to yourself. We also have followed your life’s experiences in traveling and mobile life. I am sure most of us Hams and others will continue to support and be interested in your Vlogs and fully understand your difficulties. 73 G4PEY
I had a quick look down the comments and can see how supportive everyone is. I would like to add my support. Many of us have other interests other than ham radio, and on TH-cam I watch everything from aviation (I am also a pilot) to cars (I like doing a little bit if car maintenance!) to electronics to travel to van life. I can see several hams from the UK commenting, and I can't speak for everyone, but van life and travelling to places we may never get to is on my list of things to watch, especially if it's someone like yourself with similar hobbies - you even go on the air briefly in different places and throw up an antenna...
G1PZS Jeffrey, Kevin I wish you all the very best and would like to thank you for your channel it has been a great inspiration for me coming back to the hobby after 30 odd years. Take good care of your self and i wish you good luck.
Kevin, I saw depression in your eyes over the last year. It's gone now in this video. Keep doing your interest it's good for you and us.
Kevin, I've been in your shoes. Anxiety, depression the whole nine yards. Peace of mind is more important. Sanity is key to survival. I'll still be here for you. Look forward to future videos. Take care of you.
When hobbies become a commitment, they’re not hobbies any more. I’m afraid it’s the same for everyone.
Making a hobby a commitment, makes it work.
Back in the early 80s I used to be a very keen amateur photographer and I was asked to do children's portraits.
Kevin,
I’ve been following you for several years. I’m looking forward to seeing you from your quiet places.
Best of luck.
You are a Teacher! Teach what you love! Build It And They Will Come!!! 💖
Long time viewer who is looking forward to learning some new things ! 'Nuff said!
I will stay subscribed Kevin. Always interested in your projects and thoughts, even if they are not ham related.
❤😊❤😊❤😊❤ Take care of yourself Kevin.
Can't wait to see wait to see what you do next! 😊❤
Hey Kevin, looking forward to see your other content. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
Good for you. You have to be real. I will keep watching just because we are all geeks. Locking forward to your adventures
Much respect for your candor!!! Do what's best for you...I, for one, will continue to follow your site, regardless of subject matter.
I'm here because you're interesting to listen to, and I like your positive attitude! I'm sticking around!!
I am excited and looking forward to your new videos.
All the best to you, Kevin.
I'm sure it will be interesting in the future to.
If you do what you like, people will like it 👍
Your videos are careful and instructive.
We are here for what you have to share NOT a specific topic or hobby and only you can share with us what you feel like sharing
Been with you for years and have no intention of changing that now. Take care of YOU first my friend.
I've got Myalgic Encephalopathy grade 4-5 of 6. I think I know what you're talking about. Hitting the wall happens me frequently. I just have work around it by just doing what I feel is right without it becoming exhausting. What ever exhausting is that day. Reading the paper for example
I'll stay with your channel regardless - and I wish you the best!
I appreciate you Kevin. Look forward to your future videos. Stay well.
Kevin, like others, I'm still with you! Count me in for the variety of interests you have and want to share with all of us. Moderation in all things. Variety is the spice of life.
Its fine Kevin. Youre the most important on your channel, so take good care of yourself.
Ditto.
Take care man. My thoughts are with you. Had the same wall a couple years ago.
It's always a good time to reinvent ourselves. This year, I'm doing the same.
Having compassion for yourself is good. It has always been about seeing a person do things they enjoy, and if you need to go in a different direction to continue to find enjoyment, that also is good. Will continue to watch, and wish you the best.
Stay well Kevin, will be looking forwarding to the next video no matter what it's about. We can all learn something each day.
God bless and 73 - N2IMB
All the Best in your new content Kevin. Look forward to seeing your new projects.
This is your channel. Do what you want to do. Enjoy your life and be happy.
Thank you. 73
You are an inspiration Kevin. I really hope you find peace and tranquility in your newfound interests. I will still continue to watch your videos because they inspire me. Take care my friend.
Nothing mushy..Great vids. and experimental projects over the years, well done!! Here's to a new(ish) chapter..looking forward to it!!73.
Good for you Kevin! Looking forward to the variety to come on your channel. I'm not going anywhere.
Fully support it, Kevin. Turning a hobby into a job makes it…a job. Share whatever interests you and has your excitement, not what gets you more views and subscribers and the audience will follow that authenticity that so many others lack. 73
Be well, enjoy life and keep being true to yourself! No loss of love here. I really enjoy your content and look forward to your next video. 73!
Hi Kevin, the main thing is YOU stay healthy...my interests are various, too. Natur, music, percussion, electronics, languages, ham radio a.s.o.
