I learned to drive in a 1942. The bumper was smaller. Between 1942 and 1946, there were no chev lorry' s made, and the pick-up's too. The standard colour, was dark green, yellow wheels, and single rear wheels, ,1,000x18, for south Africa. The normal front tyres, were 7,00x20. My father put 6,00x20's in front for ligther steering. Had a foot starter, so, no solenoid was needed. When flat-out, on the open road, the engine had this nice bass-sound. Good old strait six ! The grill-colour was light grey.
Quite interesting for me. Over here, we had only the one model. Money was scarce, and few poeple could buy. You could not get a loan, and had to buy cash. This chev was a 3 ton, but many of the loads were 8300 -8600 pounds. The '47, we had later, the left rear tyre gave up under load, right next to a hill. It sounded like a very loud gunshot ! The ford v8 was running so silently. Mis these good old work-horses !

What I forgot to mention, was the singing gearbox, had to double de-clutch. It had 4 forward, extra low, seldomly used, you pulled away with your load, in low gear, then second, then top. Will always miss that gearbox !
this one have the 4 speed sliding gear box. it do not have a two speed rear axle. stil the one that is loaded in the back is a two speed axle and a two speed speedometer box is on the gearbox as well.

this one is stock. it's a 6400 i think. stock tires is 7.50 20 10 ply. the next model up used 9.25 20. they have different front fender's.

I've got a half ton that color scheme . 4 speed. Most beautiful pickup ever built !!

it is technically pre war technology. stil the truck is made in 1946 right after. this is what rebuild europ after the war.
