Teeth don't grow back! Once you shave them down for veneers, that is it. Those teeth will look like that forever. So you just got to upkeep forever or get dentures.
YESSSS!!!! The instagram video Tana Mongeau posted the other day of one of her front tooth veneers flying out of her mouth leaving the little baby stub behind hasn’t left my mind since I saw it 😭😭
THANK YOU! I feel like I was going crazy seeing everyone getting/wanting veneers, as if it doesnt permanently DESTROY your teeth 😭 and god forbid you can’t afford to get them replaced every 10 years
Imagine they pull the same stuff. “Sorry we dont do veneers anymore, byeee” then like, what then? Lol. Kinda goes down a rabbit hole of what if one thing just not being supplied anymore. Then what. Oof.
whenever i hear how fucking expensive it is to fix your teeth anywhere - but especially the u.s. - i'm so glad that my dad dated a dental school student in uni & continues to be her friend after they broke up bc i've gotten nearly all my dental work for free my whole life or very reduced prices. the prices aren't even near here in mexico but it still hurt my soul paying 100 usd a month for my braces. it's insulting how governments never consider eyesight and dental health in the essential when even just having sensitive teeth can lead to so many other health issues & a lot of people need glasses/contacts or else they can't navigate the world, yet they're both so stupidly expensive. it should ILLEGAL & downright a human rights violation to have us pay as much as we do just to be able to see & eat.
Yeah, that’s why videos like mr beast giving ppl sight back by paying for surgery feels so dystopian, it should NOT be a luxury. It should NOT be something you have to get lucky to solve. When so many ppl could literally not be blind if we just had our priorities straight, and instead we line the pockets of musks and bezoses of the world 🧍🏻♀️
It's so wild to me. As an American with dental implants, I had to go in for multiple sessions where they would essentially put "teeth paint swatches" up to mine to get a perfect match that would hopefully match me for a lifetime. I was devastated at that time, as that meant I could never whiten my teeth, but I think this cycle of permanently body-altering trends made me feel a bit better about it. Now my teeth are sustainable and will last my whole life, whereas my dad has a bridge and had to file his teeth down, and they don't really make his bridge anymore. Teeth trends are no joke.
I remember I went to the dentist to whiten my teeth and she tells me my teeth are too weak to whiten. My only option is to get veneers and I remember thinking so my teeth are too weak for whatever kind of bleach you apply to whiten but not too weak to get shaved down 🤨
so glad that the rant genre is being applied to serious topics. it's weird that we normalize the vitriolic rant aimed at films or video games yet demand calm, collected discussions of things that affect our lives always.👏 you went all out!! so refreshing
yeah and why do ppl also think that an impassioned speech is somehow less credible, even if it's the same exact information being delivered? I think we should speak with conviction about things that impact us
@@LisaFevral truly. people in the oppressing class wouldn't want the oppressed to talk candidly, band together and fight for real issues. if word spreads it's gonna be increasingly hard to sell extreme things like veneers to people
coming from someone who has a giant gap in the middle of their teeth (and proud of it) i can not stand veneers because of how unnatural they look. but i understand why people get them, because it gives off the impression that they are wealthy (bc veneers arent cheap!).
Im Brazilian, and teeth are incredibly important here, to the point where braces are a common trend among famous musicians, since many of the current ones came from lower incomes. its the thing most people comment on as soon as they see u, its what people say decided their marriage, its what you could get bullied for. And even still, my mother is a dentist, and STILL i have yet to see a single person who got venears anywhere on our media. Maybe some influencers or very big celebrities, but you simply do not see a normal working adult with mint mentos stuck in their mouths acting like they look normal. Loads of people get braces, like a rite of passage for young adults that finally get the money to do it, but venears are just not an option, they look too fake
Your point about tech bros and ethics. I've studied both Computer Science and IT. Yeah, both disciplines try to incorporate Ethics into the curriculum but most of the time it's kinda tacked on like an afterthought. Technology Majors subtly encourages you to view the world as a numbers game with little empathy. At this point, "Innovation" is code for "How can we use Tech to line our pockets while screwing someone over".
You should always look at all these procedures through the prism of expediency and whether it will destroy your health. Veneers definitely destroy teeth. While pulling out and even jaw surgery is sometimes even necessary. Because overcrossing can lead to both dental and stomach diseases. But this should only be done through a dentist. Botox was discovered in the treatment of facial paralysis. It atrophies the muscle. And you definitely don’t need to have it before the age of 30. It is also used to treat migraines and sweating. But unfortunately, there are always people who start making money from this without thinking about the consequences for others.
100% agree Americans are obsessed with having straight white teeth, like so white they are almost blue. Even after having braces for years I thought mine were crooked and yellow until I realized they are really normal, especially when you see people from other countries you realize how it's way less common to have perfectly straight white teeth. I feel really sorry for young people who got veneers because of that pressure to have perfect teeth.
I think your channel is where I first felt okay with my yellow teeth bc you were talking abt how strange it was that americans were obsessed with white teeth. And I'll be real if I had had the money/didn't need it for other things and knew of a way to whiten my teeth unnaturally before that - i would've done it. I'm very glad you changed my opinion on that and Im also glad you went on a rant abt the way companies are just making things worse and worse and expecting more and more. I've been myself ranting abt this for ages and love to see others spreading it, bc maybe we can change it somehow.
I side eye 👀 any youtube video I see that STILL does videos with sponsors from known 😬 companies, like sure, some are maybe contractually obligated, but after SO LONG of a time...😅.....
I agree to an extent, but not entirely, bc i didn’t know that smile direct was gonna do all this to ppl, mostly bc I didn’t think it would legally be allowed to exist(overestimated how much of a damn the government cares to regulate dental practice), and many of those TH-camrs were using smile direct themselves too bc of not expecting this
Teeth are so much more important than I think we initially realized. Teeth can be used to tell things about you or inform the way people judge you, especially based on class. And a really good book to read about it is teeth by Mary Otto. I think a lot of people who started to invest in that really white Instagram smile do not realize how expensive veneers are. They are a lifetime commitment, and they're not cheap. The news can run you on the cheaper end of 2k to over 20k every 10 years
My grandma saved me from this nightmare. I had an abstraction problem after I broke my back tooth on a funnel cake. They told me I needed a root canal. I don’t have insurance of any kind so that would be $900 for the appointment just meet with the specialist and see if he thought I needed a root canal. Then 1000 for the surgery. I was so frustrated trying to cut back wherever I could but then my grandmother asked me how my appointment went and as soon as I told her she got super serious and told me to have them pull the tooth and to never get a root canal. She has had dental issues for years now and has had to go through multiple procedures to fix a faulty root canal! Turns out they are highly prone to infections and other complications and they wanted a 19 year old without issues or the money to have to go through all the trouble to fix it when it goes bad? Many dentist aren’t even doing root canals apparently! I got the tooth pulled for $75. And they were legitimately begging me to get the root canal saying I’m young and how will that affect your smile! It’s in the back literally the tooth right next to the wisdom tooth no one but me Will know it’s gone!!! Be careful out there y’all they stay scamming!!!!!!
I feel this same anger at the whole profession of chiropractors, it’s not only not proven, but it’s actually proven to not work! the only way people can actually be helped with those problems is by going to physical therapy, chiropractors bring you in, give you temporary relief and ask you to come back every few months until the problem is ‘solved’ except it never will be so you’ll be going for the rest of you life paying for nothingness
Another thing that needs to be said about the veneer thing is that they're not even getting veneers half the time , veneers only shave a very small amount of the tooth while these people are getting them shaved to stubs. The stubs are a hallmark sign of crowns.... WHY get crowns on healthy teeth?? I recently had to get 2 crowns on 2 teeth that had root canals ... That's what crowns are for , not for aesthetic improvement
20:20 As an American, I was a little surprised when I first learned Canada generally doesn't include dental or eye care/optometrists with their healthcare. and dental is incredibly important beyond conforming to aesthetic standards especially with how fatal yet preventable teeth/gum infections are! with the lack of eye care, too, it truly is a form of ableist socioeconomic oppression -- being visually impaired (or suffering from any eye infection/disease) totally affects one's quality of life! Thank you so much for your rage -- it's so... cathartic isn't the word because it doesn't feel any better haha, but I really appreciate your validating this frustration the whole ending conversation reminded me of those freaking ozempic ads on the new york subway (like, ozempic is in a recession for type 2 diabetics who rely on the benefits ozempic provides), it's all about money and not about the people who need health care
I am fortunate enough where I was able to go to a licensed orthodontist for my invisaline thanks to my parents -- and at the end of the process they asked if I wanted to shave down my teeth (because I naturally have small ridges on the bottom of my front teeth; they don't affect anything, so it would be purely aesthetic) and I said no and the orthodontist had to ask my parents if that was ok?! like, I get that I was a minor when this was going down but god is it depressing that a. I was suggested to shave down my teeth by a health professional (because they assumed I'd be insecure about it) and b. my parents COULD have vetoed by decision (they didn't, thank goodness)
@@Butterfly__fairy That’s kinda weird that they wanted to smooth the ridges. I had them as a kid, but they actually wear down with age. At 28 they’ve just faded away, worn down to the size of my normal teeth. I specifically remember asking my dentist why I had them after my two front adult teeth came in, and he told me “It’s just an adult teeth thing. It’ll go away with age.” I find it so weird that your orthodontist wanted to basically wear out your teeth prematurely.
I was always so self conscious about my teeth, but I’ve noticed so many celebrities who only straighten the top row, and have extreme uneven crowding on the bottom - it made me feel better to know how fake they are haha
A few years ago tiffany ferg did a video on dentistry in america (where iirc one of the things she talked abt was smile direct club) n it opened my eyes to so much thats horrifically wrong with how dentistry is viewed and treated in america so much so that to this day any time i talk to someone about anything teeth related i immediately recommend they watch the video
26:12 ME TOOOOOOOOO I told my mom “they’re trying to gaslight us!” Her teeth are literally a fine white and they’re advocating for bleach white!! It pissed me off too, it feels so good to know I’m not alone
As someone with genetically *bad* teeth, i wish people would chill about whitening their teeth??? it's creating a rewlly weird standard and it's so weird to watch media, and have the teeth just immediately jumpscare you, because they're blindingly white!! i like watching old movies wnd stuff, and it's... Refreshing to see non-white teeth? it feels natural, and it's nice.
i remember a long time ago there was a skittles commercial that came on the TV. The model was really pretty and when she smiled you could see that her teeth were a little yellow. Not bad or nasty at all they were just… natural? And it was the first time it clicked for me because the only reason I even noticed it was because I had subconsciously internalized all the white perfect teeth on TV. She made me feel better, like her teeth were good enough to be hired by a huge company and plastered all over the country. It still has an effect on me to this day whenever I start to be self conscious about my very normal healthy teeth. Also made me realize how crucial representation is in media
so happy to see this video from you. as someone with really fucked teeth because of child abuse/neglect and poverty i feel so insecure about my smile and my (awful) bite but this video is right on the dot for so much. dental care is a catastrophe particularly in the U.S. where i live and dental aesthetics are phenomenalized so much here to the point where it's really hard to exist and feel okay about it if you were left behind in that aspect. tysm for this video and the points you've made here 💓
Some people are mean. There is nothing wrong with you. Dental care needs to affordable and accessible to everyone. I am so sorry that there are people who hurt your feelings.
LITERALLY!! when i was 16, i went to several orthodontists and oral surgeons to consult them about getting major jaw reconstruction surgery that my dentist wanted me to get because my jaw bone was breaking apart and i was in a lot of pain. and there was this one guy who checked out my x-rays and said "no, i don't think you need this surgery even if you're in pain every day. you don't need it for medical reasons. BUT you would benefit from it for cosmetic reasons" BRUH???? i think about that surgeon all the time and hope he's having a horrible day
What’s crazy is right now is that I’m living in a country where dental work is cheap bcs it’s included in the national health insurance. Like it’s wild to go from paying hundreds or thousands of dollars for my teeth. Teeth are a vital part of the body you need to take care of otherwise you die. it’s like under $20 USD here? It should be included in health insurance everywhere. there’s no reason for that part of the body to be left out of regular insurance besides profit. Smile Direct Club wouldn’t be able to exist if the US healthcare system didn’t leave such a large amount of people needing cheaper dental care.
I had Invisalign with my ortho and it was successful and worth the money I paid! The trays are sooo specific I always knew smile direct club made no sense LOL
natural teeth add so much character to the way you look, shaving them down and putting veneers on is equivalent to the instagram face. you'll end up looking like a copy of a copy of a copy.
Zero to "we live in a dystopia" really fast! We definitely do live in one though! I live in the wiggly tooth capitol of the UK and perfect tooth culture is much less of a thing here: braces are probably the most common cosmetic dental procedure that's meant to change what's natural. I don't think I could take it seriously if someone with American style - dremmel was probably involved somewhere - teeth were to criticise my teeth. I'll keep it to what's actually necessary thanks 🙃
Yeah like straightening is whatever bc it does help to lower chances of cavities(at least for me it does, bc it’s hard to even floss otherwise), but I don’t need it to be SUPER straight and SUPER white, it’s just weird looking at that point
Besides veneers seldomly looking good, I genuinely do not understand messing up a healthy and VERY essential part of body like your teeth for fashion? Straightening your teeth can at least be for health reasons sometimes and not just aesthetics..
yeah I think veneers are just weird. I've gotten plastic surgery myself, but it's the kind that won't cause trouble 20 years down the line. I don't get people who get purely cosmetic silicone implants and are basically inviting decades of more surgery in the case of infection. Why?
Thank you for connecting this back to the larger points of consumer access and societal expectation. I constantly feel like people pull for these procedures precisely because we try and show our overall life security through our looks these days: clothes, cars, makeup, bodies and now their own smile...
I paid almost 3k, customer service was terrible. I had to prolong my treatment 4 different times, still don’t have straight teeth 😑😡 and need new alignments because I’m not pleased with the results. I hope they make this right. I paid the full price and I didn’t even get what I paid for !!!!
I saw physical booths for them in malls in different US cities and definitely thought of going with them for price reasons to fix a minor issue with my teeth moving but heard sketch reviews and went with invisalign at a nice dentist instead. But I've heard dentists tell me that the inside of my perfectly normal, healthy teeth was stained and needed work and I was like who will look at my teeth so much I'm not on camera?!?
I didn’t even know about this issue. This is deplorable!!! The unmitigated gall! They still have to pay and no refunds? It doesn’t even seem like America!
I used them back in 2018 when I had just turned 18. As a background im dirt poor I had very little dental care growing up, and my front teeth were very out of line (think very vampire fang-like). My parents heard about them thru an ad and decided to give me the gift of straight teeth as a present for gettng into college full ride. They had the fanciest little "clinic" in a miami skyscraper and they treated my parents and I like celebrities when we went. They do the fancy dental scan and all. I used their full treatment and the final result was so out of line but "looked straight". When we complained about the results, they wanted us to pay more which we couldnt do. My parents paid thousands for my one time straightning treatment and It breaks my heart because I have always been insecure about my smile and my parents helped me so much by putting aside that money for me. F*ck this company truly for taking advantage of poor people who cant afford real braces.
AND ON TOP OF THAT the payment didnt cover the retainer to keep rhe results so I had to keep using the last set of straightners till they cracked and the plastic was so cheap. Thank god I had a friend whos dad is a dental tech and made me a set of really nice retainers for free. Shout out to my good pal Mooney and her pops🙏
I remember being made insecure about my yellow teeth, but not being able to afford dental care. I decided to use white strips, which made my teeth hurt so so bad and made them extra sensitive! I was so sad because it required repeated use to actually whiten the teeth. What’s sad is I feel like it’s probably not even good for them.
veneers are an underestimated commitment and YOU look so cuuute your haaair this leeength it's so...wife who probably didn't have the right to vote or open a bank account BUT BUT BUT she's actually a character on a sitcom so we're okay
Ahahaha “pov I’m your wife” at the end of the video was about this, so the sitcom character ends the season but axing someone down ahahah(the husband I guess ahah)
It's truly cathartic hearing people talk about these issues. If feels like I can't go on social media or tiktok without losing faith in society and my fears growing for my generation and those after me. I'm only 19. All this fake synthetic bullshit is sadly becoming the norm and most people can't even afford to live a comfortable life let alone upkeep with these trends. Thank you for not tiptoeing around these topic lisa, your videos never disappoint.
I remember thinking about it because of all their TH-cam sponsorships, not too seriously tho and then I saw people saying it messed up their teeth and completely let go of the thought of trying it out myself.
Yeah I kinda just ask ppl I know irl, and even then sometimes it can be hard to tell bc SO MANY things I personally find to be scams are technically “legit”, tht sometimes it’s difficult to decide whether something is how it’s supposed to be. Just the cost of insulin to compared to what it costs to manufacture it makes it really hard to not scream “SCAM!!!!” In rage
Oh boy.... I feel I have unique perspective on this. For background, all of my teeth are rotten and I mean rotten... so I need full mouth implants and I'm very annoyed at how white & straight some of these puppies look. Like it's freakin weird...I want my implants to look as close as my natural teeth as possible! Not super straight nor too white. Also, I can't imagine grinding down perfectly good teeth, I think another issue is dentists aren't being upfront about the actual cost to do this to yourself. Like even acrylic crowns aren't a fix and they often course don't tell you this. It's frustrating as so many are destroying healthy bone and are gonna be in real trouble down the line...and I say that from experience...like what are these people gonna do if they do need full moth implants? Like those aren't cheap! I have the funds to get them, but I'm pretty certain most of these younglings don't. Gonna be a lot of people gumming it at 30...I'll say that much.
Yeah I need an implant too bc I’m missing a tooth, and they got a lot better at matching colours yet soooo many ppl get a creepy lvl of white, it’s crazy Also it’s soooooo expensive, genuinely cannot imagine doing it for no reason(except medical)
I have dentures and I didn’t want them to be really white. Because I am 51 years old. Most people my age don’t have really white teeth. So they are not really white. I like them.
This get me mad I thank god I didn’t shave my teeth. I was confused why the app wasn’t keeping track anymore I haven’t wore it in months due to personal issues and when I was about to start again they said contact the number I did and they said all global operations were shut down
loving this energy honestly i was sort of pressured into braces when i was a kid by my well meaning mum who basically told me i was getting 6 teeth pulled and braces put in. i really feel like even though it was a nice orthodontist office they didn't explain what they were doing at all to either of us. i vividly remember getting my braces off and trying to get up and leave the chair afterwards and the orthodontist laughing at me and saying that i still needed to get a wire inserted and get fitted for retainers and i was like ?? this is the first i'm hearing of this?? how long do i have those for?? and he laughed again and said "oh the rest of your life" as if it was nothing!! no one ever explained to me what a lifelong commitment they are and i'm still mad that it was just 'expected' that i get a bunch of teeth pulled, painful braces, wire and plastic on my teeth for the rest of my life and i'm supposed to be grateful that my parents could afford it???
But straight, healthy teeth are a luxury tho. I agree the dentist and practice did not properly inform you and your mother of the commitment or process, however.
girl thank you as always 😭this really helps me with my insecurities of my yellow teeth with a gap because i’ve had teeth pulled and still need implants (too poor)
The customers won't receive refunds because as soon as you enter bankruptcy, there is a priority queue of debt collectors, and customers are at the very bottom of that list (there will not be anything left if their debt is so far in the gutter). For the same reason...the payments that individual customers are making will also continue to go to pay those debtors.. So customers get the worst end of this, and investors may get some small bit back. Everyone loses.
In this moment I am thankful my parents suffered and paid for me to get braces as a teen so I didn’t have to fuck myself up as an adult. I had problems with my teeth crowding and if I didn’t get braces I would probably have to have teeth removed as an adult or something more extensive. Thank you mom and dad, I promise I will brush very well every day
If you move your teeth too fast, your roots will shrink and your teeth will be permanently loose. This happened to me with braces but its even worse with products like invisalign
Dental Student here!!!! Shaving the teeth too much like those tiktoks are actually crowns they're not veneers! Little to no shaving is needed for veneers esp with the new emax technologies. However young people getting veneers aka until late 40s is absurd, unessesary and on top of it most of the times looks bad because the client has unrealistic expectations which causes the teeth to look big , very white and too uniform (every tooth has certain round crevices and chips that make them have this humane beauty), it sad really. Teeth are also not supposed to be pearly white, too portuded and very big esp womens. No ethical doctor will impose purely cosmetic procedures, even something as little as a teeth bleachig procedure you make sure to put the health of it first. 9 out of 10 times its the client that comes to the clinic with these requests tho, to the point that we have to tell them what they want is unessesary and unrealistic, they see most of these procedures done on the internet:(
I am a dental assistant and i constantly hear patients ask dentists about SDC in comparison to invisalign I learned a lot hearing these conversations. So lets just say, I am very happy about this.
Yes! Preaching to the choir 🙌 👏 Ps. I want to clear something up: Crowns are the ones where you have to shave your teeth. Veneers are a cover for front. But still, with veneerz a tiny portion of enamel is usually removed and enamel doesn't regrow, so your still doing permanent -damage- changes.
I live in copenhagen - I was hanging out with a group of friends, and someone had brought anohter friend along, Mateo, from when he said hi and i saw his teeth, I knew right away he was american. those teeth stick out like a sore thumb. I have another american friend that has lived here for five years, who told me in the begining she was frustrated she couldnt buy those whitening strips she had used since she was literally 10 years old?? her mum apparently started her on them... anyway after living here she now finds it bizarre which is also interesting regarding how influenced you are by your surroundings
My teeth are a little yellow and sometimes i wonder if they should be a little whiter, but then i remember i drink way too much coffee for them to realistically stay white for a month lol
I'm so personallly invested in this as a european who moved to the usa. I have a slight crossbite at one side. No medical issues, never even had a filling or cavity, not much discoloration.... And STILL, I get asked if i want veneers/to get my teeth "fixed". This fixing would require 2 back teeth being removed, and braces. 0 medical neccessity, with a lot of pain? Just to look better for other people who i don't know? I'm good. Like, the classism and ableism (if someone's tooth health is related to a condition).....just wild and disheartening. Thank you, Lisa!
We Canadians are about to start getting federal dental coverage in 2024 🥳 I haven't been able to go to the dentist since I was sixteen because it is so ridiculously expensive, so I am looking forward to this rolling out
Just some pre-video thoughts here~ ~ I remember when I would first see a lot of frequent ads for smiledirectclub and the other teeth one, i think invisalign, at first and then they stopped appearing for me. I always felt iffy, about what they were saying they offer, because, idk, teeth stuff, that's basically health stuff, even if us healthcare says otherwise because they want to just get as much monsy as possible 🙄, doesn't mesh well with ads placed online 😅 And maybe I only thought this because I was wearing braces, I think, at the time & couldn't see myself actually w/there product without having an actual dentist there 😅
12:30 that's the thing, they're not even getting veneers. They're getting crowns. Veneers shouldn't require so much shaving. I think they're cutting (lol) corners by avoiding aligning their, which is, to my knowledge, required for veneers. But that's just a personal theory, idk if that's actually the case. I also don't know if the patients travelling to places like Turkiye are being mislead. Are they even aware that they're getting crowns? Have they been involved in the decision making re: what type of crown they would be happy to use? (Obvs there are people getting veneers or they get a mixture of crowns and veneers. But those "nubs" are for crowns)
I never expected there to be a techbro equivalent to dentistry. Never heard of this, but you bet your ass imma listen to you shred them for a half hour XD "The dumbest bitches think they're inventors." I'm having Elon Musk and Glass Onion war flashbacks XD I need this framed, hung on the walls of every home, and engraved on my tombstone.
i have UGLY teeth and dentists refuse to give me veneers. I understand wanting to be normal, but i want to have teeth when im old. i dont want to lose my jaw :(
I made a contract with smile direct when I was 17 and it was horrible. Not only was I a child paying 100 dollars a month in a payment plan off of a McDonald's hourly but then the liners would get lost easy unfortunately but fair because its clear but also the liners would struggle to move to the tighter ones, and finally the liners felt cheap for over $2000 and formed cracks along the weeks you wore them.😭 waste
I'm so relieved to be comfortable with my front gap teeth. I was never insecure about it until I was told to be but only for the time it took to look up how expensive cosmetic dental surgery is
I love that you look towards the future, seeking solutions rather than dwelling on the past! Identifying problems and finding solutions is key to progress
This is such a brilliant video, you sum up my thoughts perfectly. I think the american idea that we have to all have perfect teeth, as well as the joke that people in the UK are ugly because we all have bad teeth (I'm Scottish) has made me so insecure about mine. You also see so many people from here go to Turkey to get cheap veneers because it has became such a factor on wether or not someone is attractive. It's so bad for your teeth as well and I really worry about the damage its doing to people's mouths and mental states.
we get really cheap dental and eye care through employment even if you only work 20hours a week (part time) you can get eye and dental for maybe $10. its the actual health insurance thats an arm and a leg and for people who work full time.
The rant at around 8:00 Yes. You said everything that many of us are thinking. The problem is, this kind of society also promotes was is essentially like trickle down scamming/bad behaviour. You have these billionaires willing to be shitty people and fuck others over to make themselves filthy rich, which in turn makes it so that the people they’ve fucked over have to fuck other people over if they want to survive. Yet, because we’ve collectively all lost our minds and somehow believe we could one-day be those billionaires, we shame the people who are struggling more than us and raise the origin of these problems on a pedestal. Ethics are simply taught too late without much care or emphasis. The people I know who are getting their degrees in engineering, computer science, etc only have a single ethics class they need to take to graduate. The people I know in business don’t need ANY kind of these classes. The people in biology, chemistry, etc are more focused on how to properly cite something than on repercussions and consequences. We’re so focused on always trying to get ahead of each other that morality as a concept seems to just be forgotten.
You make me feel righteous in my fury. Not that I get angry often, but there are some core values I strongly strive for. And 90% of times you say what I would love to say as well.
i’m so glad my ortho and dentist talked me out of getting veneers after treatment. my teeth are yellow and probably will always be bc i love black coffee and tea, but they’re my own, healthy and strong (i have genetically very strong enamel and not prone to cavities. pretty sure if i didn’t eat sweets in the middle of the day every day for a period when my permanent teeth were just growing in, i’d have zero cavities). i had chips on two frobt teeth that they fixed with bonding and it’s held up perfectly for several years now
I wish 10 years ago they would have hammered permanency in before I had a labiaplasty. these weird life-altering procedures and facades always tell you how simple and pain-free and easy they are, and people fall for them every time.
I just realized how long your hair is from the last video i saw of yours. I hate that we don't get teeth care. I hate also dentists scare you into getting extractions and they won't do a cleaning on me anymore unless i get teeth extracted. I feel like they're all just trying to scam us.
yeah, TH-cam hasn't been recommending my vids to people(even my subscribers) for a few months and it's finally starting to even back out again(I hope ahaha) Yeah there are some good dentists, and then some that really aren't doing their jobs
I never understood this concept of mail order dental care. I just turned 46. I started wearing braces at 8 because of a massive overbite. It was a YEARS long process. That really repaired my jawline without surgery. Veneers don’t look natural. My own dentist told me the process is like a fad. Even with whitening teeth, which can turn green. People are too conformist for me.
I just recently got aligners through my orthodontist, and I’m so glad I went that route instead of doing it myself w/ smile direct. It’s definitely cost a pretty penny 😅 but in the end it’ll be a much better and longer lasting result. Honestly I’m not as concerned with how it looks, but my molars were getting crowded bc they kept moving backwards and I kept getting bigger food bits stuck in my front teeth. While I completely understand wanting/needing a cheaper option, I don’t have dental insurance so I’m paying out of pocket, but with something so important as our teeth I don’t understand why you wouldn’t do it properly with medical supervision. And then it’s doubly shitty for these corporate assholes took advantage of these people just to get more money. Idk, I just feel like if you can avoid the more extreme options like veneers or crowns then it’s smarter to do that, prevention and all that.
Teeth don't grow back! Once you shave them down for veneers, that is it. Those teeth will look like that forever. So you just got to upkeep forever or get dentures.
YESSSS!!!! The instagram video Tana Mongeau posted the other day of one of her front tooth veneers flying out of her mouth leaving the little baby stub behind hasn’t left my mind since I saw it 😭😭
those are crowns, people don’t shave off their teeth for veneers
They shave. I asked dentist@@kippie2414
Yeah omg that tana video, and tana is so young too 😭😭
Yes they do @@kippie2414 it don't have to be shaved to pegs usually but they do need to shave them
THANK YOU! I feel like I was going crazy seeing everyone getting/wanting veneers, as if it doesnt permanently DESTROY your teeth 😭 and god forbid you can’t afford to get them replaced every 10 years
Yeah, they basically sign you up to keep paying crazy amount of money every 10 years, + fixing issues in between
Imagine they pull the same stuff.
When so many ppl could literally not be blind if we just had our priorities straight, and instead we line the pockets of musks and bezoses of the world 🧍🏻♀️
Exactly 👍
It's so wild to me. As an American with dental implants, I had to go in for multiple sessions where they would essentially put "teeth paint swatches" up to mine to get a perfect match that would hopefully match me for a lifetime. I was devastated at that time, as that meant I could never whiten my teeth, but I think this cycle of permanently body-altering trends made me feel a bit better about it. Now my teeth are sustainable and will last my whole life, whereas my dad has a bridge and had to file his teeth down, and they don't really make his bridge anymore. Teeth trends are no joke.
Yeah it’s so weird how easy it is to get horrible dental work done without even knowing
At least a bridge is usually used for a necessary reason. Veneers are purely cosmetic.
I remember I went to the dentist to whiten my teeth and she tells me my teeth are too weak to whiten. My only option is to get veneers and I remember thinking so my teeth are too weak for whatever kind of bleach you apply to whiten but not too weak to get shaved down 🤨
yeah that sounds weird omg
so glad that the rant genre is being applied to serious topics. it's weird that we normalize the vitriolic rant aimed at films or video games yet demand calm, collected discussions of things that affect our lives always.👏 you went all out!! so refreshing
yeah and why do ppl also think that an impassioned speech is somehow less credible, even if it's the same exact information being delivered? I think we should speak with conviction about things that impact us
@@LisaFevral truly. people in the oppressing class wouldn't want the oppressed to talk candidly, band together and fight for real issues. if word spreads it's gonna be increasingly hard to sell extreme things like veneers to people
coming from someone who has a giant gap in the middle of their teeth (and proud of it) i can not stand veneers because of how unnatural they look. but i understand why people get them, because it gives off the impression that they are wealthy (bc veneers arent cheap!).
Harriyanna!!!!!!! 💗💗
Yes, go off!
Veneers look like horse teeth!
as someone without a tooth gap: tooth gap supremacy
Worse, I think, veneers make them look healthy, so they perceive people with natural looking teeth as unhealthy.
I live for Lisa’s harsh and brutal commentary. Like yes finally someone isnt tiptoeing around these topics and is saying what we’re all thinking 😂❤
Might be my own ignorance but it was a shocker to me they even offer that as a class because it’s obvious most aren’t listening ….
Awww this makes me feel better about my fucked teeth lol!!!🖤💜
People are mean and you are perfect the way you are.
As someone with extremely imperfect teeth, I really appreciate your rage
It's crazy how your rants are always so on point and funny at the same time! You're the best, Lisa, keep spreading the truth!
🥰🥰
tbh youtubers should also be held accountable for making it seem like a legit company lol
The news can run you on the cheaper end of 2k to over 20k every 10 years
I love finding book recs in comments, ty!
Thank you so much for your rage -- it's so... cathartic isn't the word because it doesn't feel any better haha, but I really appreciate your validating this frustration
the whole ending conversation reminded me of those freaking ozempic ads on the new york subway (like, ozempic is in a recession for type 2 diabetics who rely on the benefits ozempic provides), it's all about money and not about the people who need health care
Ooohhhh I didn’t even know this!!!!
Yes, I noticed that as well. Some don’t even get the full top row done, just a few in the front.
A few years ago tiffany ferg did a video on dentistry in america (where iirc one of the things she talked abt was smile direct club) n it opened my eyes to so much thats horrifically wrong with how dentistry is viewed and treated in america so much so that to this day any time i talk to someone about anything teeth related i immediately recommend they watch the video
that video really opened my eyes too and i think about it every now and then.
26:12 ME TOOOOOOOOO I told my mom “they’re trying to gaslight us!” Her teeth are literally a fine white and they’re advocating for bleach white!! It pissed me off too, it feels so good to know I’m not alone
So they are breaking contract but expect customers to keep paying????????????
Yeah, but apparently they wrote some sneaky stuff in the contracts too
I'm wondering if we'll see a lawsuit w/them in the future 🤔 👀
There will be some, but idk how successful they’ll be considering the contact was written by them
As someone with genetically *bad* teeth, i wish people would chill about whitening their teeth??? it's creating a rewlly weird standard
and it's so weird to watch media, and have the teeth just immediately jumpscare you, because they're blindingly white!! i like watching old movies wnd stuff, and it's...
Our understanding of lifetime: as long as we live
Tech bro understanding of lifetime: as long as the business survives
their understanding is: no time ahaha
so happy to see this video from you. as someone with really fucked teeth because of child abuse/neglect and poverty i feel so insecure about my smile and my (awful) bite but this video is right on the dot for so much. dental care is a catastrophe particularly in the U.S. where i live and dental aesthetics are phenomenalized so much here to the point where it's really hard to exist and feel okay about it if you were left behind in that aspect. tysm for this video and the points you've made here 💓
Some people are mean.
I agree with you. We are doing something wrong in the US.
I had Invisalign with my ortho and it was successful and worth the money I paid! The trays are sooo specific I always knew smile direct club made no sense LOL
Yeah my Invisalign experience was good too
What makes this even funnier is that there’s an invisalign ad below this video 😭😭😭
at least you gotta see a dentist every month or so with Invisalign(and in person too omg)
natural teeth add so much character to the way you look, shaving them down and putting veneers on is equivalent to the instagram face. you'll end up looking like a copy of a copy of a copy.
The only actors who look like real actors who can be great artists/become iconic have real teeth, imo
@@LisaFevral Very true! Sometimes straightening is more than just cosmetic
Besides veneers seldomly looking good, I genuinely do not understand messing up a healthy and VERY essential part of body like your teeth for fashion?
Straightening your teeth can at least be for health reasons sometimes and not just aesthetics..
BABE WAKE UP LISA UPLOADED
yeah I think veneers are just weird.
Oh wow:(
Girl your hair is absolutely gorgeous
Thank you🤍
I saw physical booths for them in malls in different US cities and definitely thought of going with them for price reasons to fix a minor issue with my teeth moving but heard sketch reviews and went with invisalign at a nice dentist instead.
Literally realest video ive seen in a long time i needed an energy match cus i feel like everyone is blinddd
I need ppl to say things for real bc I can’t listen to bs all day anymore ahahah
NGL, as a kpop fan one of my biggest fears is my faves getting veneers 😩
Nayeon's bunny teeth will be missed😞😞
Shout out to my good pal Mooney and her pops🙏
thank you for talking about this. I find our standards for teeth so so strange
THANK YOU FOR SPREADING THIS TOPIC! I’m so angry about it all. There’s so much nonsense that is worshipped in our world.
I am so excited for this as someone whose teeth are too fucked for smile and all those types of businesses.
i felt the righteous rage in this one!!! and i am here for it!!! love you lots ❤❤🥰

All this fake synthetic bullshit is sadly becoming the norm and most people can't even afford to live a comfortable life let alone upkeep with these trends. Thank you for not tiptoeing around these topic lisa, your videos never disappoint.
I would listen to you rant about literally anything queen
Yeah I need an implant too bc I’m missing a tooth, and they got a lot better at matching colours yet soooo many ppl get a creepy lvl of white, it’s crazy
Also it’s soooooo expensive, genuinely cannot imagine doing it for no reason(except medical)
I agree the dentist and practice did not properly inform you and your mother of the commitment or process, however.
girl thank you as always 😭this really helps me with my insecurities of my yellow teeth with a gap because i’ve had teeth pulled and still need implants (too poor)
yeah I need an implant too ahaha
I used to obsess over the way my teeth looked when I was younger but at this point I’m just happy they function & stay attatched to my gums lol.
Thank you mom and dad, I promise I will brush very well every day
“We decided to wind down (…) effect immediately” is such a crazy thing to say. So which is it????
9 out of 10 times its the client that comes to the clinic with these requests tho, to the point that we have to tell them what they want is unessesary and unrealistic, they see most of these procedures done on the internet:(
Dude the botox ads I keep getting on TH-cam now are insane😭 It feels legitimately predatory, I keep reporting the ads and they keep popping back up

I am a dental assistant and i constantly hear patients ask dentists about SDC in comparison to invisalign I learned a lot hearing these conversations. So lets just say, I am very happy about this.
Yes! Preaching to the choir 🙌 👏
Ps.
Omg, seeing this was so refreshing! I can always trust you to be reasonable in this crazy world. Thank you.
My teeth are a little yellow and sometimes i wonder if they should be a little whiter, but then i remember i drink way too much coffee for them to realistically stay white for a month lol
right like ceos will do stuff and they get sent a million and sent on their way while they cant even play their workers

I remember when I would first see a lot of frequent ads for smiledirectclub and the other teeth one, i think invisalign, at first and then they stopped appearing for me.
I always felt iffy, about what they were saying they offer, because, idk, teeth stuff, that's basically health stuff, even if us healthcare says otherwise because they want to just get as much monsy as possible 🙄, doesn't mesh well with ads placed online 😅
And maybe I only thought this because I was wearing braces, I think, at the time & couldn't see myself actually w/there product without having an actual dentist there 😅
Invisalign is offered through dentists/orthodontists, it’s not a telecompany!
Yesss, New video, ive been listening to your podcast non-stop ❤❤❤
You read my mind about everything omg
I never expected there to be a techbro equivalent to dentistry. Never heard of this, but you bet your ass imma listen to you shred them for a half hour XD
"The dumbest bitches think they're inventors." I'm having Elon Musk and Glass Onion war flashbacks XD I need this framed, hung on the walls of every home, and engraved on my tombstone.
I should make a t-shirt with that on it ahaha
i have UGLY teeth and dentists refuse to give me veneers.
The rant at around 8:00
Yes.
Yes ! Selling beauty is a scam, selling perfection of the body is a scam ! Thank you for this video ☆゚.*・。゚
i’m so glad my ortho and dentist talked me out of getting veneers after treatment. my teeth are yellow and probably will always be bc i love black coffee and tea, but they’re my own, healthy and strong (i have genetically very strong enamel and not prone to cavities. pretty sure if i didn’t eat sweets in the middle of the day every day for a period when my permanent teeth were just growing in, i’d have zero cavities). i had chips on two frobt teeth that they fixed with bonding and it’s held up perfectly for several years now
Actually lost my job with SDC going bankrupt
Have they told you they were shutting down?
@@LisaFevral No , i think to the last second they thought maybe they can save it somehow
Even if they thought so, they are supposed to give a heads up to ppl who work for them🧍🏻♀️ that’s genuinely unfathomable
@@LisaFevral yeah i totally agree , all the practices weren't professional

Someone's gonna get sued
I wish 10 years ago they would have hammered permanency in before I had a labiaplasty. these weird life-altering procedures and facades always tell you how simple and pain-free and easy they are, and people fall for them every time.
The fart noise 😂🙌🖤
👃🏾
I just realized how long your hair is from the last video i saw of yours. I hate that we don't get teeth care. I hate also dentists scare you into getting extractions and they won't do a cleaning on me anymore unless i get teeth extracted. I feel like they're all just trying to scam us.
yeah, TH-cam hasn't been recommending my vids to people(even my subscribers) for a few months and it's finally starting to even back out again(I hope ahaha)
Yeah there are some good dentists, and then some that really aren't doing their jobs
All those who have lost money with this rat company needs to put them on full blast and sue them. Folks should not have to pay them any money now!
