  • In the early hours of 26th April 1986, 26 year old Seamus McElwain, an IRA Volunteer from Knockatallon, Co. Monaghan was assassinated by British forces near Roslea, Co. Fermanagh.
This online commemoration, organised collaboratively by Fermanagh and Monaghan Sinn Féin features contributions from Seamus' brother Seán; by Fermanagh South Tyrone MLA Seán Lynch (who was wounded alongside Seamus) and Cavan Monaghan TD Matt Carthy.
Please share this video widely to remember with pride a great Irish patriot.

This is my cousin. I'm an American Sean McElwain. My father tried to convince Seamus to come to the states for education in the mid 70's right before i was born. He said he could not leave the struggle. Whatever you think about his beliefs or actions. He was a brave son of a gun. Well respected and monumental in the escape from Maze prison in Longfellow. R.I.P.

What United Ireland are you talking about here. Not trying to be funny but the country’s not the Ireland I used to know no more. Immigration is the new issue. I heard ones say a new Irish flag, a new Irish anthem, and with immigration as it is, it really is a new Ireland for sure. Place is fked as they say.

What can be said about this brave young man that hasn’t already been said , I didn’t know this lad but I heard so much about him . I remember his death like so many as a young Republican I listened intently to the bias British media celebrating the execution of a man they could not hold , a man they knew they had to kill as he would never have let them rest in his country . It fills me with pride to be associated with a lad like this by calling myself a Republican. Had he lived he would still be fighting them with whatever means political or physical. His family and friends must be so proud sad but proud he gave no quarter nor did he expect no quarter from his enemy . Britan or to be more precise England are already half way out the door with the border in the Irish sea, should never have trusted that taig boris even got married again in a taig chaple . Scotland are packing their bags and getting ready to move back into the Eu. The Scots have long memory's and remember the auld allies, they should never have trusted the the auld enemy but then what would you expect from the Sasnach. In a few years there will be no one left but the English and maybe the Welsh

No, Seamus was not 'assassinated'. He was killed by crown forces - because he was a very real threat to them, and also to the rest of the people of Northern/Ireland.
So let's get the facts straight rather than make heroes of those guys like Seamus who were just stumbling along with their own idea of Irish unity (which I'm all for, as it happens).
Terrible, inhumane acts were carried out on all sides, far too many times - so let's all own up to that, all of us.
Let's not repeat that long, long sad history, yet again.
Tomorrow really is a new tomorrow for Ireland - and also, by default, the rest of the 'no so', United Kingdom.

@@tomaddie1969 Yeah the thing is his revolutionary thinking brought to Ireland and spread by Jesuit propaganda started the whole crap fest and got many many Irish civilians killed, divided the country and caused endless hurt.
Him and his fellow stooges started the whole thing on behalf of the Vatican with its lies and contempt for human life.
      Glad he’s 6ft under👍
