  • My son Jeff helped me film this very "organic" and unedited tutorial for using my new Essential Triangle Tool for half square triangles, quarter square triangles, flying geese and combined units! Pardon the shaking and the quaking, this is as real as it gets. The Essential Triangle Tool is available in the Quiltville Store at quiltville.com

Thanks for touching on the tip of where to place the line on the ruler... ive often wondered if it should be “ next” to the fabric or “on”... thanks again. You are just a quilters treasure.

I never knew that the ruler line should be on top of the fabric when cutting! I always thought if it should be just off. This could make a huge difference! Thanks!

Have this ruler. Have to keep coming back to this video to refresh. Lol. I dont sew enough triangles to retain the procedure. Thank goodness these videos don't go away. Thank you.

Bonnie - Great tip about making sure the line you are measuring by should be on the fabric. Love your videos! You're other videos help me organize and use my scraps.

I enjoyed the lack of editing ... it makes it feel like I was actually there with you! This really does seem an Essential Triangle tool. Thanks for the tutorial video Bonnie and Jeff! ~Diana from Toronto

Thanks Bonnie and camera man Jeff, for taking the time to show this in-depth demo tutorial it was very informative, very clear quality sound and visual. I cannot wait to get mine. Like others that Easy Street is one of my favorite quilts that you have made. I love the color, and the way you made this quilt it has movement like ripples on the top of water when you touch it with your foot or hand, or skip a rock across it. It is also a beautiful backdrop. Have a great weekend Bonnie. :)

Your triangle tool has to go on my must have list. Thanks to your son's help, maybe we will see more tutorials like this. I liked the raw unedited version with all its quirks.

Great organic tute Bonnie! I have too many rulers but I don't care. Ordering this one! I don't mind at all using other techniques where you are making multiple identical HSTs from one large square and then trimming down but you don't necessarily need a lot of identical units for true scrap quilting.

Thanks for doing this tutorial I just purchased it from your store. My plan is to make the leader and Ender for this year, new to quilting so I’m sure it won’t be perfect. I’ve been watching your quilt cams and I’ve learned a lot specifically how to get a 1/4 seam so I appreciate that you mention it . Thanks again

Luckily found this ruler in a nearby quiltshop (germany) about a year ago. I'm after completing part 3 of the Rhododendron Trail Mystery and can't praise this tool enough. Geese and triangles en masse. 😀😃🙂

Hi Bonnie. This is a great tutorial, I had always wondered about the right way to use these rulers. DO NOT LEAVE THE LINE ON THE MAT! I will never forget it! I have a question: On minute 9:17 of the video you are not aligning the ruler right next to the edge of the fabric, is there a reason for this?

Hey what does cross body mean in this video at the end ? I am new trying to learn how to quilt but I am looking to buy some rulers or templates lol but there are so many ! Idk the difference in many of these ! I do like this multi use on yours but do a lot of them do the same thing ? If this is still for sale I’d like to buy this but which other rulers do I not buy that this does the same thing ? I’d say you can’t tell me this maybe but it’s just confusing but I love how the dog ears are cut on here ! Ty for sharing !

I will definitely be adding this Essential Triangle ruler to my quilt notions "arsenal", as soon as your schedule calms down and you're able to be home more than you're away... but can anyone tell me the name of the quilt behind Bonnie? I think it was the BKH "Mystery Quilt" back from 2012, 2013, or 2014... because that's when I discovered Bonnie's Quiltville blog and fell in love with all things scrappy and repurposed. (Of course, I have to make more than the four quilt tops I have made thus far, so that I actually HAVE scraps to turn into scrap quilts!). I recall buying yardage in the colours for this Mystery Quilt, but then I got sucked into what I like to call the 'Eldercare Vortex', soon after which my baby brother was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Lymphoma ... so I've been spending my time taking care of him and HIS family. I *will* get some time to myself to make all of these quilt tops, just not quite yet. Thanks for your help on the name of the quilt, ladies!!

Does anyone know the formula for making the unit with one part a HST and the other half a QST? It seems as if she used a 4 1/2 inch strip for the HST and a 2 1/2 inch stip for the QST. This unit has driven me crazy/er. Thank you in advance.
