Thanks for this. I struggled because the Ikea instructions said to fit the top shelf second and the middle last, but this does not work unless someone else is there to force the thing together for the middle to fit. But fitting the middle second and the top last makes it much much easier.

The secret is to ensure the bottom shelf is tight as this pushes the bars closer together for the middle shelf to fit. Once you attach the top one it should be able to stay in place even without the bolts. But obviously do use them once in place to secure the top shelf.

try to re-arrange the shelves, the shelf that you are saying might be put at the bottom or at the top.
