Fantastic. Really helps to see you cook them as I didn't know what to do with them and so they have stayed in the fridge. Thanks... we will have them tomorrow evening for dinner.

I bought some small turnips and was looking for a way to prepare them other than mashing them. Thank you for talking us through this. These looked so good that I'm not sure how I'm going to keep myself from eating them before they go on the dinner plates. .LOL

Bake in the oven with tater, carrots, onions salt pepper butter or large or oil and herbs.
If yout turnips or sweeds are very bitter boil them in bicarbonate soda and water first till slightly soft them was and bake them

Thanks for the idea on how to use them. Got them in box this week but wasn't sure what I'd do with them 👍

I don't use fats in my cooking. Do you have any suggestions for a substitute? Some times I use aqua faba in place of oil in stir frying. I am worried that it brings the flavor of the beans with it and might overpower more subtle flavors.

Definitely going to try! Thanks! Curious if you’ve had success with a creamed version using nut milks?

Hi Susan. We have never tried making creamed turnips but in principle it should work with nut milks as the milk acts as a way of thinning out the mash and adding a little fat and flavour. Almonds go well with turnips anyway so that would be our milk of choice. You could boil or braise the turnips and then mash or blend (for a smoother finish), adding the nut milk and maybe a little olive oil until you have the desired consistency. Hope that helps. Let us know how it turns out.

I tried, really, but these are at the top of the list of my least favourite vegetables. I cancel boxes that have them in it. I love Riverford, but these are for me inedible :(

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. Everyone has a vegetable they don't like so not to worry. Just in case though. Lewis, our head chef at the Field Kitchen as written three more recipes for turnips which are amazing and super simple. If you fancy giving them another go at some point we'd highly recommend them. You can find the recipe on our instagram page here:

Oh that’s a shame :( we tried this method last night (slightly adapted to the version that came with the box - with wine). And it was delicious! Very surprisingly so. Buttered and sweet. Has given us more love for the summer turnip!
