    In Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood 1x62 A Fierce Counterattack, friendship and personal sacrifice are the only forces in the universe strong enough to defeat Father's abs.
    Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood synopsis: Two brothers search for a Philosopher's Stone after an attempt to revive their mother goes awry and leaves them in damaged physical forms.

    Father: Anything [Greed] might happen to desire, I can assure you that I desired it first.

      @ZealSeraph 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      That's the thing that people often forget when they call Father a bland villain. His personality is right there for all to see through his children. The Homunculi carry not only his deadly sins, but also his deepest desires. Pride wanted a family, Envy was jealous of humanity, Greed wanted loyal friends, and Wrath valued the freedom to decide for himself. All of these were things the Dwarf never had, or at the very least he thought he didn't have.

    • @Chipster321
      @Chipster321 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ZealSeraph Not sure what you could say the desires reflected in Sloth and Gluttony were though, besides the obvious. I guess Gluttony could be the desire to be with the person you like the most? Because Gluttony was attached to Lust by the hip. He would even listen to her when she said he couldn’t eat something. He seemed to genuinely love (like a child’s love) and mourn her. So much so he fucking lost it when she died.
      As for Lust…I think hers was better shown in the manga because I think her speech was cut out in the anime. Her views are almost the exact opposite of those who say homunculi are superior and different. She views them as the two sides of the same coin. She ended her speech on the similarities between them with “We are human.” So I think she held Father’s desire to walk among human and be treated the same as them.
      Idk if Wrath would fit into this formula because of him being human-based.

      It is really sad, and the reality was for Roy to look more "cool", however those small details take a lot of weight off the meaning of the images, which in the FMA manga is indispensable, another sad example was the end of Roy, in the manga, the conversation he has with doctor Nox is just perfect, and Riza from a distance, not knowing what will happen to him, but in the anime they changed everything to make him look more "cool", yes, it is sad.

    Man, so many throat-clenching moments of sadness combined with moments of happy goosebumps.
    I love that everyone has now been saved multiple times by nameless Briggs soldiers shooting supposedly unkillable beings in Bradley and ( *Halo voice* HEADSHOT) Father.
    It seems like humanity as a whole has been the star, not even just the named characters. Everyone has stepped up in big moments to answer the call while also not rushing into battle when they're unfit, which could endanger others. I love it.
    Don't forget, either, that Greed, in all of his iterations, valued the lives of his friends over the "familial" bonds between the Homonculi, and his killing of Bedo (I hope that's how it's spelt) is what reawakens him. He really did just want friends like the ones he now has, friends who cherished, supported, and loved one another. Friends that helped each other transcend the boundaries of the possible, even enough to punch god.

    Al has always used alchemy in more creative ways, so it makes sense that he'd be the one to figure out that he needed to sacrifice his metal body to get Ed's arm back. Equivalent exchange is always in effect, so logically the exchange would work in both directions. It's so brilliant in its simplicity. And Greed's true desire has been pretty clear for a while, so it's immensely satisfying to see him finally admit it.

    • @MrShadowThief
      @MrShadowThief 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MrShadowThief ...Ed and Al's entire motivation throughout the series is for them to figure out how to get their bodies back. It was stated multiple times. If they were already aware that reversing the exchange would work, their story would've been over in two episodes. It never occurred to them until this moment; Al's desperation and creativity led him to make the realization. Edit: Also, Ed doesn't even realize his most viable option for his final transmutation until he sees what Al did. Again, had he known this, the story would've ended in only a couple of episodes. The solution was right there in plain sight the entire time, but they didn't understand it until the end.

    Greed attacking Father interpretation is so different from what happens in the manga. It has always confused me why they did it like that. It's not a translation error either. It's the same in the japanese script for the anime. Greed specifically acts as a distraction to take Father down instead of taking away father's powers for him. Here's what he says specifically in the manga, "i knew you couldn't resist suckling on my philosopher's stone. But you dropped your own barrier in the process, you're open." To which Ed proceeds with a sneaky counter attack.
    No idea why they changed the entire distraction like that. Personally, I think Greed's final revelation makes more sense in context of what he says and does in the manga. But that's just my opinion

    • @VerumSpina
      @VerumSpina 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately they changed many things so that the anime had more action, and was more digested since the story itself has few fights, and the final arc of father in the manga is sublime due to the realization of everything that came from the beginning, and not so much for the fight itself.

    • @doubleasworkshop1692
      @doubleasworkshop1692 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@VerumSpina i wouldn't say that. I think they took down the fight scenes quite a notch. Especially in the last arc, except for the Bradley and Mustang fights. Because in the manga, after Scar's brother's transmuation circle is activated, ed and izumi get more extravagant with their alchemy. It is pretty tame in the anime in comparison. And they cut out the entire lan fan vs envy fight too. The only excess fight they added was the clone Bradley fight. As much as I love the anime, for every time they enhance something with the medium of animation and film, they leave bits and pieces out. The Hohenheim chariot sequence and how extravagant the alchemy gets post Scar's brother's transmutaion should have made the cut. The only thing I hold against the manga is that Hohenheim's death sequence is only one panel. I get that he and trisha get a huge heartwarming send off in the final chapter, but his death also needed to carry that weight. Kinda how it did in the anime. Outside of that, i do think the manga series is the superior experience and people should honestly take time to read it, doesn't mean the anime is any slouch. It is still a fantastic show and captures the heart of the story splendidly, even if it leaves bits and pieces out

    • @VerumSpina
      @VerumSpina 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      somethings are better in the anime, specially hoheheim's dead, and a couple of dialogues, but the manga is in other level (and arakawa likes the very short scenes), but I love the anime, and yes, sometimes I am very hard with it, but always I back and I love it again.

    Your comment about it not just being the heroes fighting the final villain is something I really like about FMA:B. Most shonen anime will talk about the power of friendship, but when it comes down to it, it's usually just the main character that can really fight the big bad.
    Not so in FMA:B; if Ed and Al had tried to fight Father alone, they would have been destroyed. Instead, we have them, chimera's, homunculi, alchemists, people from other countries, and ordinary soldiers, all doing their best. And things would have been worse if just one of those groups or people were missing; even the anonymous soldiers are important.

    17:15 "Keep moving" was a brilliant English translation. I think it captured the essence of what was being said even better than the original Japanese, if that's possible. (The original line was "win this, brother" (勝てよ、兄さん))
    On the other side of the translation angle, there's the last line: "get up, you novice." I honestly can't remember if that's what Ed said to the fake priest in Liore, but in Japanese at least it's the same line repeated. The word Ed says is ド三流, literally "third-rate," but it's a word that only Ed says; it's not normal Japanese speech.

    I've been quite tongue and cheek with my love of the Armstrongs, but with all sincerity this episode really shows the value that Olivier brings to the conflict. Through her unflinching devotion to her position she has inspired and empowered those that she commanded. She never once faltered in upholding her values, and her steadfast adherence to a moral code united vastly different people together for the cause of saving their society. The forces from Fort Briggs were essential in overcoming a grave and existential threat that almost wiped out an entire country, and they were so well trained and motivated to do their part that they were able to step up and do it in her stead to protect her. Oliver Armstrong is not just a badass, she's the missing fragment that led to the false god Our Father became.
    To be a god, you must strictly adhere to three simple rules.
    No shirts.
    No hair ties.
    You must love people.

    Alchemy is this series is basically using energy in order to manipulate matter. God seems to be the power they draw upon in order to perform Alchemy, the "laws of physics" if you will. I do not know for certain if it's a conscious being like people believe in our world but it is the accumilated force of the universe. So when Father absorbed "God" he basically gained the power of the Laws of Physics, meaning he can willingly use the physics of the world as he sees fit.

    Great bloopers for this episode...
    I would like to point out that Mustang states the clapping feels unnatural versus Ed who just started to do the clapping as though it is the most normal thing in the world after first meeting Truth. Ed's fluidity with this change could be a few factors with how young he is, his expectation that Al could also preform this feat, or even that Teacher was already doing it this way and Roy's dislike for it could be that he's being forced to break a habit; however, I like to think it's a leftover effect caused by Roy being forced thru the portal. I don't what to make of it, but it makes me think...

    I think this episode demonstrates that creating philosopher stones isn't fundamentally "the devil's work." At its most simple, it's saving irreplaceable soul data in a physical form. If used properly, the technique could have been used to save Trisha or Nina. Making new vessels is definitely difficult, but can be done. Its the soul that can never be made anew. Just a thought I had...

      @VerumSpina 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand what you mean, I wish at some point it could be found, in fact it is what Ed and Al are looking for in the end, in memory of Nina, but alchemy is not enough, since removing a soul from its body supposes death, the soul is left as in limbo, and the mind turns to mush, only really strong people could bear it, like Al and Kimblee, although I had never thought about it, I think it could be possible, now "the philosopher's stone" if not It is bad per se, its creation will always be an aberration, because it is a genocide that is not only used for selfish good, but also condemns souls not to rest, and in that, the ethics of anime is also very clear.
