Last time I did percussion pit work like this I had 2 monitors one to view the conductor and the other the stage, whilst still having the score up on a music stand , technology has now advanced far enough to have the score on a screen and decent IEM’s and a whole host of other tricks. Sadly I’m retired now buggered up by arthritis but it’s still a joy to watch this .
That's what I was wondering too ... how does he play unable to hear the performance or see a conductor unless he can but we can't see/hear it? ... correction there is a small conductor monitor - couldn't see it at first and very very faintly I can hear voices.
As others have said, he has video monitors to see the conductor and in-ear monitors to hear the other players, this isn't much different to a musician recording in a studio. A lot of recording is done in isolation, relying on playback to keep time or reference in the song.
Wow so strange listening to one element of the music just totally isolated from everything else. You don't get any IEMs or show relay to follow what's happening?
Do Broadway shows require the 2nd percussionist to supply all their own instruments? That seems crazy to me. Keyboardists don't have to supply their own keyboards
Ni siquiera esa parte la conocía eso estaba en merengue, a partir de la bachatita que se puso. Sólo faltaron una salsita bien rica para complementarlo, pero está percusión está caliente

This is what I imagine my house to look like in 10 years. I fucking love percussion instruments, all of them.
That must be so weird at first, doing a performance but being totally idolated from everyone else

@@NickJay he's also wearing an in-ear monitor
@@Blakter19 Yes you're right ... in his right ear which I could only see when he came to the timpanies on the right. :)

@@ShawnATX true, but this is also live! As a person who always has performed next to my peers, this would take a lottt time to get used to.
This is awesome!!
Just lemme hit that timpani real quick.... nice stuff man! Though I think this is the one song in the show I’d rather be behind the kit for.
What a treat, great job, thank you so much !
He got trapped in a cage of percussion instruments.
Better than being trapped in a cage of emotions
The only cage I wanna get trapped in
Instrument collection goals
I have seen something like this first time on my life, incredible and amazing. Best regards.

Hey Cal-I’m wearing IEM’s. I’ve got an Aviom to control the mix and there’s 4 LCD monitors with the MD feed on them
Haha. It’s like he got in school suspension in the pit
Wow, this is a music instrument shop ❤️
Awesome job thanks
Is this Broadway or one of the tours?
What is the name of that pyramid shaped chime instrument?
the decahedron
Hendrik Jõgar a trine
It's called a Trine and it's from Matt Nolan percussion. It's also used in Les Miserables!
Like me playing around at a music store
When you’re bored and the bd isn’t around
Any chance u might list 10 of your most esoteric items in your setup??
There is a percussion instrument in this show called a “wand”. What kind of instrument is that, what does it look like and how do you play it.
Do you own all this equipment?
Hey Griffin-yes, it’s all mine. (I’ve got a garage full of even more instruments too....)
Murdoch MacDonald how much do you reckon that you've spend on these instruments throughout your life?
Do Broadway shows require the 2nd percussionist to supply all their own instruments? That seems crazy to me. Keyboardists don't have to supply their own keyboards
What type of vibraphone do you own?
How much is this setup worth?
Nice one mate! Hope you're well 😃
i wonder how he know what part he's at. any ideas?
why is he in his own room? Where's everything else?
I don’t think all this is gonna fit in the pit so... they put the percussionist in his own room, sometimes in a spare dressing room hahaha
It's called a drum box. You can't put all that in the pit so the mic another room.
Pebel ooh what if he’s in a loft
3:45 Unlimited theme is everywhere 😆
Much respect
how much were you paid for this?
Ni siquiera esa parte la conocía eso estaba en merengue, a partir de la bachatita que se puso.
Sólo faltaron una salsita bien rica para complementarlo, pero está percusión está caliente
I think we need to hear the music!
The non-percussionists when BD is in the bathroom
Which production is this?
International Tour
Wait so do you literally have an entire room to yourself just with a bunch of mics? That's cool, but sounds pretty lonely lol
Me aburroooooo!!!!
