Love how you take the spin on a negative topic (monolith rules set) and turn it positive (how much you enjoyed the creation process). As a newer Necron player, I am glad I found you on here. Keep the quality videos coming! Cheers!
That is one awesome looking model! Great review Nick, this is a great update to the classic model, and all the little details really help make it stand out. Well done!
The new monolith looks like an earlier version of the old one. The cleaner lines of the old one hint that the technology is concealed and protected inside it. The new one has more of a steampunk vibe about it, as though it's an unfinished prototype with it's guts all visible - hardly the final design you'd choose for a giant tank!
Great video, glad you had fun making. Still not convinced to part with that much cheddar for one when I have two old ones.... random question, looking a lot at narrative play for when lockdown ends any chance for a vid/ some tips on a good starting army for the 50 power and 5 RP you get? Cheers
Random Question maybe it be answered on a old video. How big are the Green rods on the side of the old Monolith ? I got one off ebay ages ago and do not have the rods.
I love how you painted your monolith. Ps: that tilted position of monolith can probably be nice idea if you have for example primaris body from Be'lakor kit. You can make it seem as if the Monolith is crushing Marine underneath it.
Great video Nick, nice to see the details - I am liking the new one more than the old one now, although I think you could glue on a spare head if you miss it from the old emblem! Also your talk of how choice is good struck a nerve, that sums up one of my (very few) grumbles about the new Necron minis and codex design - the new guys have few or no choices for options, like compare them to 5th edition changes and it's really stark (so many Spyder combos). That and the weird choice of wording on how to equip Overlords (apparently you start with tachyon arrow and the glaive and then have to change one weapon may mean you have to remove both options, just the old way was easier ya know...).
Man...the new Monolith is quite a center piece of the army... Looks delicious man! Gotta have a closer look at the rules! Wonder where I can find a video about the new rules... 🤷🏻♂️ Haha 😃
Happy new year Nick, I can’t remember if I have mentioned this in the previous look at it, but I always got the impression that rather than controlling the monolith, the Canoptek, is maintaining the energy field of the golf ball, it doesn’t look entirely stable to me, almost unrefined, I like to think that it is bleeding off energy and converting it to other uses
Fantastic comparison vid mate. I agree with you on the Canoptek Creature. I would have preferred them to keep the arch but just add more details such as Necron symbols engraved into it. But otherwise it is a superb upgrade to an iconic miniature.
Thanks mate, the Canoptek theme seems to be the new big things for Crons, it certainly does add to the detail of the mini, but it's my least favourite thing about it, a shame they integrated the tail into the armour rather than an add on
Can i ask where you get your magnets for magnetizing parts? i really want to make the weapons changeable but i am having problems finding the correct size magnets.
That looks wicked, what made you dry brush lead belcher over iron breaker and not the other way round like most people would? Whatever your reasons it seems to work nicely :) top work bud
Thanks buddy, I paint my infantry iron breaker and then methril silver, which I got from the 3rd edition Necron Codex, but I wanted my vehicles to look slightly different so went for lead belcher instead
Very cool model Nick. I love this cold monochrome scheme. And now that I've seen the two monoliths in direct comparison, I'm also sure that the new model will match my color scheme a lot better than the old model. But I'm still not convinced of the Canoptek construct. It looks like a foreign body to me and somehow disturbs the look.
The way the Canoptek creature is reminds me of a facehugger from Alien. I want to build the old Monolith as a terrain piece, thinking like a Necron bastion type building like the Imperial Guard get.
It does look good, but I'd prefer if there was a way to replace the Canoptek critter with something else, also would see if I could put a crystal instead of the golf ball. I'd say if I could mod the old one to give it more details I'd definitely prefer it to the new one, by a lot, it would feel more Necron too.
That was an interesting video mate, your such a wizard when it comes to magnetising stuff. Getting the best of both words out of 1 mini. A bigger fan of the new mini which is no surprise. GW have done a great job revamping the range. All the best 🙌🏻
I am debating this as a centerpiece type model. At the price point, it's this or the silent king. Both are amazing rules-wise, just a matter of what I want to paint I guess. And what I'd actually use.
The only thing I find "bad" on the new monolith is the canoptek construct on the top. If it could somehow be replaced with the original roof pillar it would be awesome!
Same.. it looks out of place overall out of filling the back. It looks like it would be such an easy target from bhind, and worst of all, we have no idea what it DOES. Is it piloting the monolith? (in which case the pilot of such a vehicle is horrendously exposed) Is it just acting as a control for the crystal? (then why isn't it something more integrated instead of seeing just sitting on there?)
Personally I still prefer the old monoloth design more. Though given the points value of the model I'm unlikely to use more than one. If I can justify buying one at all.
Makes me extra sad that my old monolith got messed up on assembly and had to use greenstuff to clog gaps on the edges (clumsily so.. so the six is noticeable)
@@IDICBeer Them phasing out the green plastic rods is a bit of a shame, they do look a bit dated but that’s what made the necrons “necrons” imo, it was unique to them and was super fun to use with them, it was always my favourite part. Perhaps if they did different colours themselves rather than 3rd parties making the unofficial rods, they wouldn’t have gone for just solid plastic
It is really an awesome model and looks fantastic with your paint job! So menacing and far superior to the old model. This being said I still won't buy it. Keeping the sales below expectation might be the only way to get GW to buff a unit.
well looking god thare buy sigh no lights but manets guns but why not see how menny of old models youget of E bay fore the cost this one kit ??? be fun to see hek get em ??? who knows you might get 10 of em just a think you and necron girl have good MMXX1

Necrons Girl has grown quite a lot since I started watching you.
Yeah she is shooting up
This is looking fantastic Nick. Everything came together great here. Can't see myself getting one soon but one day...
Thanks buddy, I had so much fun with it

Thanks a lot Gordon, glad you hear you are enjoying the videos and the way I look at the hobby

Thanks mate, much appreciated
Thanks, just got this and your tutorials will be a huge help! Yours looks great!
Thanks Joey, it is a lovely model to work on, glad the videos are useful
Always enjoy your videos Nick, keep up the good work.
Glad you like them mate :D
Happy New Year to Nick. Lovely painted monolith. Odd to hear you talk of lifting restrictions when they've just been tightened lol.
Thanks mate, yeah I recorded this last week ha ha Happy New Year to you
I must say, that paint job looks absolutely fantastic! Very very nice
Thanks very much Will 😁
Fantastic job on the new Monolith it looks great. I am quite surprised that the 2 are almost identical in size.
Happy new year to you and yours 😃👍🏼
Thanks mate, yeah it always seemed like it was going to be bigger. Happy 2021 to you too
Love it. Just finished painting mine in Nihilakh colours and it was great fun!
It's very well designed and very enjoyable to work on :D
Beautiful painting mate and good to hear your take on it!
Thanks a lot mate mate

Thanks very much buddy

Thanks buddy, Try to get a good mixture of units, some anti tank, infantry killers and objective takers, fast moving units will be really useful
@@IDICBeer awesome thanks for that 👍
It looks wonderful, really great job
Thank you my friend, much appreciated
Looks great! I'm getting one soon I think. Will be running it most games as it's my favorite of the new crons.
Thanks buddy, yeah it is an awesome model for sure, i'm looking forward to field mine
You said basic paint job, but I'm going to use the word solid. You did everything you needed to do right and well!
Thanks fella, much appreciated

Does it fit inside an a4 piece of paper?
What the base? Yes it does

Absolutely Amaxing!!!
I wasn't going to get a Monolith but the video has me tempted.
How long did it take you reckon?
It's an amazing mini, it took me about 20 hours to paint

Only 20! Great Work

That's a nice looking model and I have to say that GW did a nice upgrade for the model for the game.
Thanks mate, I love how GW have upgraded it without losing the original feel
Both models look very nice but the new one seems to have more depth, all the best Nick, Garry

Pretty cool I prefer the new one aesthetic over old one, but again it’s one persons preference . Can’t wait to face all these new necron goodies
The new one is awesome, although I like the old one too, they actually look pretty good together
looks great. can't wait to see if it can stand up to other lords of war
Thanks fella, it was an absolute pleasure to work on
Really surprised me to see them almost identical in size!
Yeah it always seemed it would be bigger, but I'm glad it's not, it would be harder to get it on the table with all the terrain
Merci pour la vidéo
No problem 👍
Personally I still prefer the old monoloth design more. Though given the points value of the model I'm unlikely to use more than one. If I can justify buying one at all.
The old one is a classic, I still like it a lot

Is it worth the price? Maybe.
Does it look cool? Yes.
Can't argue with that

£105 and a lord of war so 3CP....noooooooo
if you go big and take the silent king he gives you 3 CP. throw in a c'tan and force the enemy to make hard choices
As I said at the start, obviously I am not talking about the price for the rules
$170 for a monolith, no, just no.
Worth every penny, I've had so much fun with it so far and haven't even played it yet, it's not cheap, I get that, but what is there days
