usually you put the dress over the see-through dress to protect the dress from your skin like you wear an undershirt to protect the dress shirt from your skin. It's an odd thing yes and really only done with clothing you really don't want destroyed in the wash but it is a thing. If you just go by how it is used in art you will see it used as the only part while others have it as a night dress that you wear to bed not a dress you wear outside.

it's funny I was just thinking about this exact thing earlier today, drove past a girl roughly my age who was wearing an ankle length skirt and fully buttoned up blazer on a kinda hot day and the idea struck me that she's probably kinda just done with the rat race of trying to one-up other girls by showing off more and more and is just instead gonna wear something she's comfortable with even if it doesn't look trendy. it was just oddly kinda relieving, to know that at least some people are getting to that point as I get closer to middle age.
I kinda think capitalism has tricked a lot of people into trying to look ultra sexy all the time and just, not every single human interaction should be about that lol. It's perfectly fine if some people want to do it; after growing up in a church environment and seeing how cringe it was when this happened I'm never gonna be that guy who tries to police what women wear. but it just personally gets a bit obnoxious when year after year we're pushing into like, november and december and still every single girl you drive or walk past on the sidewalk is in a crop top and yoga shorts that are somehow tighter and an inch shorter than they were last year. I don't think people should catch pneumonia by trying to look sexy...

@@madaggar9765 Not sure if this is what OP intended, but capitalism definitely has marketed its way into girls and women's minds to cause great insecurities while simultaneously selling the "cure" to this insecurities in the very same magazines that made them insecure in the first place. This is by no means a uniquely female problem, hell bad breath was marketed as "halitosis" to be cured by mouth wash companies in the 20s, but considering women are america's biggest spenders, its no surprise that a good deal of marketing is targeted towards them.

Depends on your perspective. "Scandalous" clothing absolutely existed in 2004, but I have definitely seen a continual progression in the social acceptability of people wearing less and less and less. Not judging it either way, but the shorts get shorter and tighter every year and the shirts tend to get more low-cut with rising hems to the point where they look like 2004 swimwear as every day fashion. Sidebar: I grew up and spent a lot of my life in Illinois- it could very well be different where you live. But in the midwest pretty much any time except maybe winter (and even then, lol) you're going to be seeing a lot of outfits that would have normally been reserved for the beach or hooters in the early 2000s.
I miss skirts to be honest, I though skirts were pretty cool when I was growing up.
