- Walker County Amateur Radio Club invited us out to a WOTA (Winery on the air) event at Teysha Winery in Oakhurst Tx.
We had a great time and a little excitement/ disaster. Mark KB7OUZ had brought a couple of kites, and we were attempting to get a 132' EFHW in the air. The first Kite failed to stay airborne. Mark decided to bring out a bigger Kite, which we did get in the air.
Steve WB5HZM had his table a Xeigu X6100 setup and was ready to start making contacts when tragedy stuck. The Kite 300lb test line snapped and sent his radio flying through the air and vineyard. Steve actually had the microphone in his hand and was getting ready to key up when he looked down and his radio was gone. Luckily, the radio caught on one of the vineyard fences and pulled the coax out of the connector. Otherwise, we would have lost the radio. The Xeigu survived with just some minor damage and dirt.
Even though this happened, we all had a great time. Thank you to all the people who came out, and we look forward to doing this again.
Radio connection gone wireless.
But thanks for the info.
I'm going to hamkite in few weeks.
BOLO kite with coax. Last seen in SE TEXAS USA. Please call N5BSB for reward. Approach with caution. Is considered dangerous to ham equipment
