I have an AW Custom DL-44 full metal gas blowback airsoft version that I customized and weathered. I added a set of Todd’s costumes sight greeblies and used some Birchwood Casey brass black on the scope sight knob and the brass rings on the scope ends. It came out awesome.

You are mistaken a tad bit about how many props were used. There were two props used. One in England where 99% of the movie was filmed and the Stand In prop when filming in Los Angeles. You are slightly correct in your reasoning as to why multiple props were used.
The actual story as told by George Lucas in one of his many interviews. The Mauser used to create the "Hero" prop was the same gun used by Frank Sinatra in another movie filmed in England, The Naked Runner, from a decade before. Han pulled his blaster a total of THREE times in the movie and all three were filmed in England. In the cantina, at the space port and in the Falcon's smuggling compartments. Twice was it fired. Cantina and space port.
When they moved production back to LA they wanted a close up fill in shot of Han pulling the blaster from his holster. They could not bring the original prop back to LA with them due to fire arm importing laws at that time so different prop makers made another prop as close as possible with what they had knowing it was only gonna be on screen 3 seconds and the audience at that time couldn't care less about the little details like they do today.
This LA prop is what someone labeled the "Greedo killer" long ago and a bunch of idiots jumped on that bandwagon. It should be properly referred as the "stand-in" blaster because the point in the scene when Han fires and kills Greedo, that was filmed in England with the "Hero" prop which technically makes the Hero prop the Greedo killer.
BOTH props used in the movie were ACTUAL Mauser handguns as replicas did not exist back then.

Pretty cool. i'd like to see the emails from the company. lol
You can make your own . All you need to do is take manual lathe and milling beginner 1 &2, buy a 7x18in lathe and a small mill and the metal to work. ;)
Now that i think about it, if i replaced my ruined (from a hurricane) lathe, i could probably sell a boatload of just the scopes!
