I know this might sound stupid but what do you mean by score?
Not stupid at all. The score is what basically what is meant to be sung. So when somebody does a riff for example they are no longer singing the score (the notes if the song) as they’re suppose to be

@rileyl1315 a riff is like a note singers will use to make their note sound good. So for example if you listen to Erin Ramirez sing woah woah at 1:26 that would be a riff

@@rileyl1315a riff is technically a small note modulation, that is different to what is written in the music (eg, in the score) :)
