Tbh 2nd and 3rd gen was just iconic and highly talented . In 4th gen and 5 th gen it's less about talent but more about visual . However grps like g idle , itzy , babymonster, kiss of life gained popularity based on their amazing talent . People say these generation are more about visuals but it's just with hybe grps . Hybe should train their grps properly. Other grps also have visuals take ive for example but Ive is still a skilled grp . Nmixx and babymonster shine in vocals and g idle girls are amazing rappers . Tbh my fav gen is 3rd gen . I feel like 3rd gen was the era where visual and talent were balanced.
Sorry but i dont agree for saying gen 5th less talent. Because i think nowdays gen5th gain attention because of their talent. Riize, babymonster, Kiss of Life, young posse, VVUP, they all can sing live. Because of criticsm for lacking vocal skill, now 5th gen trying to show their vocal skill without lipsync.

Entertainments companies nowadays evolved and tap another market which is commercialization that's why younger KPOP idols are preferably needed to be more visual. Being ambassadors, endorsers and promoters of so may product line what bigger asset does an idol have than being visual, The steep competition of the industry nowadays also changed the strategy of these companies not to only promote talented idols but also beautiful idols and who knows due to more competitor coming into play then more rigid qualifications a trainee needed to become an idol.

Third generation is what got me in the K-pop of which I still listen to second generation also but BLACKPINK and BTS being my two favorite groups
I first saw Lisa in dj snake's collaboration song SG. Then i searched about her, and then I got to know about Blackpink and then I became a blink😂. I have no interest in more k-pop.
But then i saw their juniors baemon. And i like them also now. Waiting for BP comeback and solo albums. And also BM comback. Other than them I don't stan any kpop.

Seo Taiji & Boys wasn't the 1st Gen, that group was before the 1st Gen. H.O.T, 1TYM, BABY VOX, FinKL, and S.E.S, those were the 1st Gen.
BlackPink and BTS blew KPOP up globally for me specifically, and to date they still are the biggest IMO.

You have to be accurate, the first generation did not pave the way for artists today, maybe they copied the western culture but, not, going out of Korea. The second generation, went up to Asia, but, unable to penetrate the global arena. The 3rd generation, Bts, which debuted in 2013, were unable to do the same, until, they try to manipulate the market in 2015, which is now being investigated by the Korean gov't. Only Blackpink was able to penetrate the global market, and paved the way to new artists right now. That is why, ONLY BLACKPINK, was invited to the MAINSTAGE of Coachella, and many more, ONLY BLACKPINK, is the legitimate source of what Kpop is today.
Yes, you may say there are good groups before them like Bigbang, 2NE1, Girls Generation, but, you have to admit, ONLY BLACKPINK, was regarded by the western audience and press as the GLOBAL SUPERSTAR. The likes of Selena Gomez, Tylor Swift, the two Smiths are only few of those western arrists who can attest to the fact, that BLACKPINK, is the global sensation.
Just be accurate, and do not put you own emotion on the facts.😊
