Early access changed the wood foundation pieces, so your best bet now is to use the ceiling pieces instead for the floor
Do you mean the "flat" ceiling pieces...why? Because they are just one block high?
Yah! or you can use the foundation pieces but it won't look the same @@lucagenovese7207
Do you recommend using foundation in general? (Not just wood) 256 is pretty steep and I find myself using floors as the base. Is the only downside that the house is on the same “floor” as the grass? Long story short, is the foundation worth the 256 per?
Yah you could definitely just use the foundation blueprint if you're on flat ground@@______Daniel
@@ChiselchipI don’t have the foundation shape on early access. Anyone else having this issue?
The building mechanics in this game look well planned and very QOL before launch which is a refreshing change for this genre of game.
Snapping can be frustrating in my experience, and you have very limited rotation options.
I built your house, but made it bigger proportionally. Thank you for the guide. As someone who doesn't have the patience or creativity naturally to build something as simple as this, this was extremely helpful in making a little enshrouded home I'm happy to come back to. :)
So glad it helped you!
I'd like to reiterate this comment @chiselchip I have 0 creativity or artistic ability. I used your guide and even though it took me several hours, I was able to get it done. The only issue I ran into is I had leveled my flame thing up to 80x80x80 but when I moved it as you instructed early in the video, it took away that upgrade. 😞
@@robertgreenough8820 yah the upgrades don’t refund or carry over, hope it’s not too hard to do again though
@@Chiselchip thanks... hope not too. I'll try to look up how to do it tomorrow. I'm exhausted from that build lol
38:18 I like that you incorporated the Flame altar, that's the only thing in your house at this point but it already gives Level 5 comfort.
Yah! Figured it would be the easiest starter design... don't even need a fire right away
I love that there's no structural integrity mechanic like Valheim, this game's far more forgiving, flexible, AND it looks fantastic. Great tutorial, great build.👍
I both agree and disagree.
As it currently stands Enshrouded gives more material options for building than Valheim, and those are just the ones I have seen so far with only about 20 hours in game. The lack of integrity is not so much an issue with me, its nice its not there, but I am used to dealing with building integrity, so really it does not bother me. I also like the single block option, which can be used for fine tuning especially in detailing a build. The single block roof tiles for example can be used to make some really nice wall, window, door and pillar detailing.
However, there ARE some areas where Valheim in its current state is far superior building wise. Even unmodded you have better than 90 degree rotation for building blocks, which you do NOT have in Enshrouded. Furniture can be rotated in 10 degree increments, building blocks cannot. At least not currently. As such, no rounded structures, which is a shame as I LIKE rounded, more organic structures, and they are something you can do in Valheim especially if you are using the Gizmo mod, but even without it can be approximated.
Another issue is snap points, snap points can be really, really finicky in Enshrouded, frustratingly so at times. Materials wise its less grindy though, another point in Enshrouded's favour, at least for the more common materials I am limited to at the moment.
That being said Valheim had some of the same issues initially, especially when it came to finicky snap points! The really major downside with Enshrouded though is that very limited rotation option. That is ALMOST, not quite, but almost a game breaker for me personally....
structural integrity was a requirement due to the base attack mechanic in Valheim, same goes for 7 Days. This game is more exploration with no base defense requirement, so it doesn't need structural integrity. If you just page thru the various games that have/don't have it, you will find it coincides with base attacks.
@@alganhar1 Don't get me wrong, I love Valheim, but for folks like me who don't have the design skills of the master builders, Enshrouded doesn't punish mistakes with total collapse. I too wish that there was better rotation on blocks, I'm a big fan of rounded structures like towers and turrets found in Victorian Gothic and Medieval architecture. I also prefer the terrain options in Enshrouded, the ability to create underground lairs and tunnels fulfills my fantasy of living in a home with secret passages, like Wayne Mannor with the Batcave. One other thing I wish for is a free floating camera or "godmode" for building, so I don't have to d!ck around with scaffolding. ...Ugh, what a pain in the A5S.
@@TheREALDocRabbit I don't disagree with you one bit, but as a 56 year old gamer, my combat reflexes and patients are less than they used to be. That's why I turn off raids in Valheim. I like my home to be my sanctuary. Also, spiked walls and fences are less aesthetically pleasing, in my opinion.
I’m getting some major Bob Ross Vibes! Great build and great commentary with a soothing voice.
Thanks!! I’m glad it was a fun cozy video to watch! Can’t wait to do more!
Yep, definitely Bob Ross vibes.
Definitely one of, if not the best building systems in the genre. Especially for those of us who like to be a bit more creative with our builds. Although, I really hope for more building sets over time, or mod support so that I can also have some preset pieces and a much expanded list of furniture to fully flesh out my builds.
Thanks for the guide, easy to follow and really shows off the versatility of the building mechanics of this game.
This is a very beautiful build, and it has definitely been useful for familiarizing oneself with their build system. I've already started making my own changes (2M, L-shaped corner stairs, which I am loving) and seeing what else I can do with it. Thank you very much for sharing!
Thanks! So happy it’s helpful!
This looks great!! It’s amazing how much stuff the devs automate for us that makes life easy. And I feel like by giving us 1x1 control they basically guarantee longevity for the game
I love base building, especially in coop games. Last one me and my friend played was Grounded. That game allowed for some very beautiful builds, but it was nowhere near as flexible as this game, can't wait to dig in to this.
Thank you for the explanation of the build system. I just started and had no idea how to do anything to make a house.
Have to admit - it's a great build... you've certainly a creative flair.
Very cool build. Will definitely be using this for inspo on my first build.
Just as a side note. If you build a half height wall on your top floor and then attach the roof to that; it makes the top floor a bit more spacious inside and allows you to have overhang on the roof (so they don't end at the wall). You can then go out with the roof on each side of the house by half and this will create a really nice 3D look for the cabin. I learnt this in Valheim.😎
Awesome build. Thank you for sharing!
Looks absolute amazing, I love the artstyle and lighting the game went for.
Thanks for showing off your build.... can't wait to see when people go nuts with full on castles/towns what not.
The building system is so good.
Looks great, just got the game yesterday. I'll be using your building techniques for sure.
This was an excellent tutorial to become familiar with the building. I feel much more confident building now, thanks!
Awesome! Glad it was helpful!!
As some who spend over 600 hours in Valheim 90% of that just building stuff, this game is going to be a lot of fun for sure.
Awesome build! Satisfying AND still totally easy and approachable, great launching point for the imagination! 🙌
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
In Palworld, building felt like an afterthought. This game was what I needed.
Yah the game definitely has building as one of its best features!!
Yeeees I was feeling the same, I started palworld did abit of building and stopped because it's insanely limited and literally forbids you from being creative
@@Falsegospel1 buildings in Palworld end up being a nuisance to tear down so you can minmax your slave trade. This game is much more my style.
That building system is amazing. Nice cabin as well
Thanks! Definitely having fun with it!
Great job!
Looks awesome!
Great video! Its my first buildin the game and I lvoed it! I added a balcony on the second floor, always like those
Very nice !
Thanks for this, love it!
Great tutorial. Good job
Lucky I want to try this game out. Love these types of games
I can't wait for the game to come out. I want to build like this. I just hope I can find some folks to build with.
Great tutorial, thank you!
Very inspiring as well!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent tutorial, thank you. This has been on my radar for awhile and I immediately jumped into the demo. You displayed a lot of great technique and building tips. Can't wait for this to get to full release. Sub definitely earned.
Thank you!! So happy to hear this was helpful! Definitely will be among my top games for sure! Cheers!
I love this build so much, thanks for the vid, taught me a lot about how the build system works! Looking forward to making some build vids of my own, I’ll happily credit you for teaching me these techniques.
So glad it helped!! Good luck with your builds and glad I was able to provide some inspiration :)
wow this is absolutely beautiful!
Thank you so much :) glad you like it!
When you talked about the snapping being difficult for the roof i was nervous.. but anyone thats played Ark knows this was nice and easy compared lol
This one looks armazing
Great work! This is the first game in quite a while that I am interested in buying on launch day
Oh me too, I've already put in for the 24th, 25th and 26th of January off for vacation at work so I'd have a long weekend to play the game when it drops.
Turning off my phone, laying in some frozen pizza's, snacks and soda's and tuning out the world. I'm stoked, I've heard great things about this game.
Everyone is saying if you love Valheim then this is the game you need to play.
@@toshikotanaka3249 exciting! I’m going I’ll get a couple hours in here and there but I’m excited to get into it some. I love Valheim so I am hopeful this will be just as fun
Looks very nice. I loved this demo. The building is fun. I hope they add finer rotation the their pieces.
Thanks! They have super fine rotation to items like furniture and such, but the blocks won't be rotatable given that it's voxel based. It'll be like Minecraft
How big is the map gonna be ? And only one map or only 1 layout ?
@@normanfryman it will be quite large. I believe 24 square km. And yes it’s not procedurally generated
I do not know the map size. It will most likely be hand crafted not procedurally generated@@normanfryman
Man, I was tearing my hair out trying to get the roofing right, it never even occurred to me that the way this game builds you can overlap to close gaps.
Amazing
Iam going to try this at another Alter location looks neat 🎉
I know I'm 3 months late Watching this, but I can't wait for this game on the 24th.
thank you for this tutorial. cant wait to dive into this game and build me a mining village
You're welcome!! That sounds like fun!!
GREAT VIDEO
Nice and chill video. Subscribed for more.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! I've got a bunch more out as part of my enshrouded playthrough that you're welcome to check out in the meantime :)
This is so pretty. Can I live here? 😂 I’ll have to try making this for sure!
Haha Have fun building it!
Love watching others build! Give me new ideas ! I’m sure you have a tone of hours in valheim with all your builds.. I’m at 1700+ and this game is going to rival that I have a feeling
Great looking house. Seems a bit finicky or tricky to build, especially the roof part. But the result was very nice. You should try the build system in Conan Exiles too. It has improved a lot since the game released. Some of the advanced build options and decorations are really cool.
Thanks!! Yah I definitely am getting the hang of the Enshrouded build system with more time! Ans thanks for the recommendation, might have to check that out!
Finnicky but still miles above the competition in terms of what you can do.
Thumbs up for the cute chuckle :P
😄
Might need to update this as the foundations have changed my foundation has changed. also my foundation left a major divet in the earth when I removed them. Nice build BTW
I found the same thing. Oddly enough it makes a very quick way to excavate a basement. 😀
thats Minecraft in next gen.... love it. minecraft killer finally
"Super, super" helpful video.
Glad it was :)
You should check out vintage story for the cozy crafting vibes.
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll give it a look!
If those block dimensions are in meters, then that guy is MASSIVE
😄 Hahah yah technically they are not in meters, it's just categorized that way, and I think certain main ones are but others aren't
Never Heard of this game, but it's look soo cool!
It’s pretty awesome for sure!!
@@Chiselchip It's a bit sad that the demo is time limited. It does remind me of the old Minecraft demo.
@@astingilbert582 haha yah! And the game is like a new Minecraft
2 weeks man i can't wait. hope the day/night cycle is fixed
I know!!! SO Excited!!!! And yah that'd be nice to enjoy the sunsets a bit longer haha, they are hoping to fix that but can't be 100% sure obviously
Its fixed
Super.
Why are my first choice in foundations you pick solid and not with 4 small pillars and the rest hollow?
I want to make this cabin because daaaamn great work
The tutorial is great, the tools in game need some work. I'm finding the roof to be such a time grind and headache for me, I really hope they improve the snapping and add a third person zoom out feature to help place pieces when we're building. Again great video, very kind, but man these building tools....
They do have a zoom out feature, just have to press alt and scroll out if your using a keyboard and mouse, yah the roof can be finicky, but I've gotten the hang of it better with more practice for sure. Glad you liked the video though :)
Where did u get that 4 leg foundation, i don't have that in the beginning?
does the voxel setting change how the corners look?
Very nice! I'm looking forward to playing this in a few days! I want to create a castle with multi lvls... Do you get more build space or is that area what you get to work with?
Thanks! Yah you can increase the building area either by adding more flame alters or upgrading your existing one
@@Chiselchip Cool thanks! Really looking forward to building in many directions lol.
Great video! Awesome build; any way could we get some timestamps??
Thanks! Yah I could try to put some in there soon! Didn't realize I didn't when I posted it
Thanks! @@Chiselchip !! Keep up the good work!
Was there a recent update that stopped the building tiles from meshing together? I’m building right now and none of my walls or roof tiles looking nothing like yours? All of mine are just blocks
Love the little cabin! I am not crazy about the rough wood's look, but the way you surrounded it with the stone pillars really did a lot to improve the appearance. The roof looked very tricky with trying to place the pieces without snapping them. Would it be possible to do something similar with snapping pieces, then adding or trimming as needed to get the effect? As to the the walls in the rear of the house not naturally forming the arch, I am wondering if this is a bug the developer's need to be aware of. It seems rather odd that doing literally the same thing has a different result, which is what makes me wonder if this is something that is not intended.
I'm really looking forward to extended release. I actually am hoping to pre-order, if I can. I can hardly wait to be able to try my hand at building in this game, and watching your two videos (this one and the Hobbit Hole) as well as other building videos is giving me ideas. In the meantime, I've started playing Portal Knights, which Enshrouded's voxel system is based off of.
Thanks for the Vid! The Roof is very easy in this game compared to Valheim. With Val you had to worry about the roof caving in on your due to the weight and having to shore it was a nightmare. This looks super simple especially that the roof snaps together and provides the beams once they snap. Not that way in Val. But the thing this game has is the combat which is so much better than Val and the Skill trees which Val did not have. Also the graphics are awesome compared to Val. I am very much looking forward to playing this for many hours.
@@johngallo7383 I'm not sure why you are replying to me; I am not the content creator. I've never played Valheim. But, I agree the building system for Enshrouded looks amazing and I cannot wait to try it!
@@GothicElf68 After rereading it. Don't know why i replied to you either lol. 🤷♂
@@johngallo7383 You're very critical of Vaheim's building system, which I suppose is your right. But it's a lot better than building in ARK: Survival Evolved.
I have over 1000 hours playing Valheim. 62 hours in ARK before I deleted it.
@@toshikotanaka3249 Not trying to be "Very critical" but with over 400 hrs in I think I can say I have a pretty good grasp on the building aspect.
I think they removed some shapes. I am unsure how to get the same blocks as you
After getting the roof started, is it not possible to snap against the custom placed ones? Or does it default to wall snap points?
You can hit X in game to toggle easier snapping which I didn't do very much and that probably would've made the roof easier
They changed a lot of the building mode, i cant get rounded corners on my roof ledge like u did. And the foundations are also full solid now, so you have no points to set pillars.😢
Me gustó
Hey Chisel, love the build, just got the game today and wanted to make this for myself! This is probably a stupid question, but just thought I'd ask anyway, the wood foundation for me looks nothing like yours in terms of its structure. It's just a pure block of wood as opposed to a tile of wood with 4 pillars like it was for you, not sure if the devs changed the wood foundation to look how it does now vs what you had, or whether there's a feature I'm missing to make the foundation look like yours. Is there a way to change what the foundation looks like using the build menu? Am I missing something?
Same here!!
@@willeyg Makes the cut-outs for the pillars way harder to figure out as well too, since there's no obvious wood foundation pillars to base our cut-outs off of.
Great question! Yes they have changed that, so now the best you can do is to use the wood ceiling piece and just place stone pillars at each corner as you go along
@@Chiselchip Sweet thank you so much for the confirmation, okay I'll do that instead, thank you for the help and the beautiful build 😄
Assuming the options for elevating/lowering terrain are plentiful, what’s your impression so far of that mechanic? Say you wanted to build this but on a hill you created
Feel free to check out my hobbit house livestream of this game for more on terraforming. It’s absolutely incredible and amazing
@@Chiselchip did already and it was fantastic! Looking forward to following your builds in this game! Can’t wait to get my hands on it
@@superttggee awesome! Yah it’s such a great game
I have a question. In the released game we'll be able to build anywhere and in multiple places?
Yep! Almost anywhere! And the number of places will depend on how many flame alters you have unlocked
@@Chiselchipooh ok, that's good! I'll be waiting for the release then. Thanks for the info.
Tbh as someone who has 6k in arlse and 1k in val for building. This game looks like its gonna scratch that itch so damn well.
Very well done but it cracks me up that he closes his door every time he goes in and out.
Lol I guess I'm just used to a creeper being right behind me about to blow my house up 😆 This game is way more relaxing haha!
How do you zoom in and out? I was having so much trouble seeing where to place things.
Unfortunately it looks like they removed that feature 😕
@@Chiselchiphahaha, of course! Hopefully, they put it back in. Thank you for answering.
@@LMD2915 just found it, you have to do it in settings, they no longer have a key and mouse wheel for it though.
I know I'm late to the party, but you hold Z and use scroll wheel on mouse.
How did you leave the initial spawning area with decked out weapons and armor?
As I mentioned in the video I brought a character from another world in
@@Chiselchip Yeah, sorry about that. I wanted to built that cottage you won an award with and I heard you say that they were from another character. Next time I'll watch the video before asking questions.

I don't care at All! Not as if I finished building my own rectangle of a house twenty minutes before you posted this, is it!!! Argh!!!!
(But I'll still watch you and admire your skill, no doubt!) 😝
Haha guess you'll just have to make another world and try it :) Glad you liked the build!
how long does it actually take to chop 76 wood per floor, 64 wood per wall and stairs and 32 per pillar
not long at all! I spent about 45 minutes or so getting all the resources for this build :) It's definitely not as grindy as other games can be
I wonder he can build it for me than I can just import it into my game 😀👍
😄 Glad you enjoyed the build! Maybe someday they'll make blueprints to share!
Damn look at that framerate! Mine doesn't look thst smooth as yours. How is that possible? I heard there is also a bug that you can't get higher then 60 fps 😅😅
Maybe it's a bug for some people but either way you definitely don't need over 60
I hate how they limit the amount of altars. Would love to see you build out a lot of the world
The demo limits it! but as you upgrade you unlock many more alters! and can increase their building boundary
I don't think there should be any limits, but upgraded range as you progress makes sense
Yah! I suppose we'll see the verdict on everything once EA comes out! @@cody945
Can you do a video on nightingale game?
Possibly! I think I'll let that one be out for a bit before I cover it, I never got a chance to check out the beta or anything so not sure how it'll be but it looks cool!
Trees dont try to kill you when you chop them down. Emersion broken!
Building is much better than in Valheim.
wil this game be getting linux dedicated server support?
Great question, I'm not entirely sure yet, but I'd guess they will at some point
damn i only host linus server.@@Chiselchip
It would take me less then 40 minutes to build a house like that
How do you remove your house completely so you can rebuild it to something else?
all you gotta do is either dismantle it to get your resources back or extinguish the flame alter and the whole thing will disappear!
i just wonder how the game engine will handle all the building and terraforming, i always wanted to dig out motes and shit on valhiem but then the game got super unstable and laggy after a bunch if terraforming, and i have a 5800x 3070ti 32gbs if ram running off a ssd so there should be no problems
Valheim is instance based, which is why it has so many problems the more you build. This game is more like minecraft, where it doesn't care where the block are placed or destroyed, and won't lag even with a massive castle
@@Chiselchip that sounds great lol so i can make a mote around my castle lol, or build a cave house
Yep! Pretty much total freedom! @@Sloppyjoe96
The amount of resin needed for torches seems off. Like, I'm farming tons of trees and would, just to get a few resin drops. Also, the time limit caught me off guard, I only noticed it when I had 2 hours left. I spent all my time grinding wood rock and building, I didn't even explore. Kinda meh.
True! Definitely a lot of resin needed! Also I'm guessing you realize you can create another world and explore for 8 more hrs? only 8 hrs time limit per world
do u have to build there?
no, you can build anywhere you want
Is there auto loot?
As of the Demo I don't think so, they might add it though if they haven't already
Chicken Dinner.
So, basically minecraft with extra steps

Sometime before 2024
My cornerstones ( above the windows ) are edgy and not angled. What am i doing wrong?
