I witnessed this song live at Euroblast 2014. Never heard of the band before that date. The chorus still sticks to my mind. Blown away.

Leprous should not be put into any genre box. They belong to the Crème De La Crème, they are in the genre of their own. Their music grips you and makes you feel myriads of emotions. Their melodies are ethereal, they are complex and soulful at the same time, most of their songs are top tier masterpieces, they don't have bad or average songs, their vocals are divine. They have that famous Scandinavian quality, when nothing is sloppy, everything is properly thought through. They deserve admiration, respect and way more recognition than they have. Leprous is Art!💖

I always find this song interesting. It feels like a journey to nowhere. It’s so engrossing and takes you places but returns back to familiar phrasing’s so often or doesn’t actually move anywhere, then just ends. I love it.

Every new album of Leprous they evolve in more aparently pop direction, but they sound fresh and prog in some way. No problem at all. When you see it live the songs grown so much. And answering to your question in previous leprous song, they are human metronoms, as it sounds in the discs sounds exactly live. If i don't remember bad in the next album after coal enters Baard kolstad in the drums, and you notice it.

I see you've been hooked by the Leprous train. It was only a matter of time. :)
Those guys have so damn many recommendable songs.. Moon (which is based on a beautiful metaphor), Rewind, The Flood, The Sky Is Red (which you've covered), Golden Prayers and their older music (which is more adventurous). They truly are in a class of their own when it comes to prog.

So glad you enjoyed some more leprous. hope to see more some time in the future again :^)
I'd still push some more Ne Obliviscaris as well. But I've never seen anyone react to the band Corelia, their song from their long-delayed album called Blight of Imagination is quite amazing, a true 10 minute prog metal classic for me. If not, the song Bastion, or Up For Air on that same album would be great. Wish they were known more.

There are some amazing callbacks in BTBAM's discography, but EE reprising Spectral Reflection is one of the best. You'll need to check out a song from The Great Misdirect next! "Fossil Genera - A Feed From Cloud Mountain" or "Disease, Injury, Madness." Leprous are just one of those consistently excellent bands. I haven't rated any album of theirs above an 8, but I also haven't rated any below a 7 (and that was only their first and last album). So basically every album from Bilateral in 2011 to Malina in 2017 is an 8 for me. I love how they experiment with texture and mood, how they can get quite proggy and technical one moment, but then unleash an incredibly catchy, poppy chorus the next. In many ways this song encapsulates that with the moody opening, then that catchy-as-hell chorus hits, then it goes into that proggy, twisting bit with the unusual drum patterns, before finally returning to the chorus. Really awesome stuff. They have moved more towards pop as they've gone along. Their first two albums (Tall Poppy Syndrome and Bilateral) are more proggy and metal; Coal and The Congregation are where they started blending that prog metal with pop aspects; and Malina (and even more so Pitfalls) is where they've finally fully embraced pop, though without losing that dark, atmospheric edge.
EDIT: Wanted to add I very much agree with you that both complex layering and minimalism can both be interesting. It all just depends on the song/composition and how well it's done. The cool thing about minimalism is that any minor change sounds major because contrast is stronger when there's less going on. It can also be bland and boring if whatever is there is too repetitive or isn't catchy or has no interesting sonic qualities. Layering and complexity can be great because there's just more there that's potentially interesting and it often makes repeat listens more valuable to hear all the different moving parts, but I also feel with layering it's harder to make individual parts stand-out or to do as much with contrast and changes, and it's also easy for layered/complex stuff to come off as too technical or unemotional. I don't think either method is innately better than the other, they just have different potential strengths and weaknesses.

The drummer has another prog metal band, Rendezvous Point that I feel you might like too. Nice video as usual. One suggestion I have for you is that I think you might need to ease back on your noise gate. I've been noticing it in some recent videos, but your voice pops a lot. Just went back to an older video to compare and that effect wasn't there. I did hear a hum in the background, but that was nowhere near as distracting.
Also it's okay to be off center. Most photographers and videographers would place you on a third of the frame;)
    But again, nice work.

Muse - New Born is like , progressive rock but quite catchy, even for "casual" listeners .
Its an amazing track from the marterpiece of an album which is Origin of symmetry.
What is impressive is that Muse are only three people, but they use a variety of instruments and effects.
