This is why people should love themselves. Cuz once u reach ur 30’s-40’s, you’ll realize how u wasted ur youth trying to “fit into the standard”.
    This is truly, truly inspiring.

30s and 40s are still the youth, I know you didn’t mean anything by it, but it’s depressing how people think that you get “old” in your 30s and 40s when in fact you really start living in your 30s and 40s.

This is so true young people these days spend most of their youth trying to fit into some kind of standard thinking that they have to please others with how they look and I didn’t realize that there are people out there who appreciate and will love them for who they are inside and out and they don’t have to change anything to make anyone else be happy if you want to change yourself you should do it to make yourself happy never somebody else

@@IHHA99999 I only agree on the part which you said 30s and 40s is when we start living BUT let's be real here. 30s and 40s is behind youth, meaning that we are mature enough, hence why we really start living fr from then. ✌🌼

What she's showing you is she used to. Like a lot of people she's saying she (me too) wasted a lot of time trying to be happy working hard to be something we weren't, only to NEVER be happy. Once we loved ourselves it didn't matter we could color our hair or wear it black, we could wear glasses or contacts, *It doesn't matter, because we love ourselves* and once you do that you will be much happier with yourself.

@@gesttina and family that does too helps innoculate you from that bs and not care from an earlier age. Family policing skin color and weight from an early age messes you up, and is very different from a family that doesn't care about your skin color only that you protect it from cancer, and helps you have good food and exercise habits unrelated to pressure to looking a certain way. The focus makes a huge difference: end result focus to achieve an arbitrary social goal is toxic, process focus centered around making yourself have beneficial habits for your life (no one size fits all) is great. Like giving someone a love for hiking and nature is very different from making someone obsessed with their exact waist measurements. Giving someone a love for healthy delicious dishes and teaching them to pay attention to their body's hunger and satiety signals is different from giving them orthorexia or anorexia/bulimia. Like that whole "eat everything on your plate that I loaded up too heavily no matter what your stomach tells you" attitude just gives people eating disorders.

Graduated this year but seriously it was so rough, I hated myself so much and was surrounded by toxic people that only made me feel worse about myself. I ended up with only 1 friend in senior year and starting college now it has been very lonely but I’m learning how to be authentic again. I am managing my anxiety and self loathing a bit better now but holy shit was it bad in highschool. I feel like I wasted those years trying to be something “better”.

same, I was always an outsider and because of my autism I don't follow society's rules too often, only if I see purpose behind them. like being kind to others, respect their space, don't be racist or homophobic or any other sort of hateful bigoted ideology, do your best to lower your carbon footprint and don't litter, stuff like that. but I never followed silly arbitrary rules like trends, watching your weight, wanting to fit in, ect
I was alone for a lot of my life but I'd rather be alone than keep up a constant facade. if someone becomes my friend I want them to befriend the real me otherwise what's even the point. I want someone to enjoy me, not someone else I pretend to be
sometimes I'm glad I have autism really

THANK YOU!!! I am so happy to be watching this with my 12 year old daughter who loves your channel and looks up to you so much. She is autistic and constantly misunderstood and judged at school. My voice as a mother is strong, but the influence of other confident women blazing trails in such a dignified and TRULY beautiful way as you are have such an impact to reinforce that she is beautiful and worthy and wonderful exactly as she is in the clothes and hair that make her feel good, and interested in the things that fire her soul, not to please others, even me!
So thank you from my heart and soul. ❤❤ Never underestimate the power of being courageous enough to live satisfied and thankful in your own beauty and power and break free from the manipulative and toxic 'beauty' standards of the parts of this media/money/greed/judgement driven world that want our young ones so busy and obsessed with changing themselves that they fail to be the change that is needed and are stunted from waking up to realize their Power and Potential!!! 💪🥰💪
To the kiddos and young adults out there: the next time someone puts you down, laughs at your physical traits or what your wearing, or says something that makes you feel terrible: ask them why they did that. Ask them if they are okay and be truly interested. If they are baffled, kindly let them know that happy okay people don't hurt others on purpose and you actually care.
When someone puts you down, 99 times out of 100 it is about them and their own insecurities, not about you!!! The 1 exception is if you are not being a good human to others. If that's the case, change that and then if and when someone puts you down you will have the power to know it was about them and not let it hurt your soul! ❤😊

The whitening cream is something that i can relate even as an Asian male. I was born with darker tan skin compared to my other siblings. While they were praised for their pale skin, I was called racial names by my own family and relatives. This is something that most poc men will never admit but we all have tried to make our skin lighter secretly. I was one of them. But I've learned to love my tan skin and i would never change anything about myself.

Omg I’ve literally had the same experience as a female Pacific Islander. The rest of my siblings older and younger have light skin. Relatives would literally gift me whitening cream 💀 I got my brown skin from my dad and my grandma was a busy body who was always tanned. They are both intelligent and upstanding so I never thought I was objectively less than anyone else but it certainly made me meek during family gatherings. You’d think literal pacific islanders would not care but you can’t escape colorism not even in paradise. It makes sense that even men have insecurities about their skin when being darker skinned can so casually be thrown around as an insult. Man or woman, hearing such a thing would still hurt. Asian beauty standards suck so much. I struggle to achieve it as well. The kpop boom never really helped with my self-esteem too. They always say to love yourself, easy for them to say when they are pretty. It's kinda hypocritical when they say that too considering some idols had undergone surgery to be able to keep up with standards. Then one day it just clicked. Once I reached 20, I realized that I have more important things to deal with rather than obsessing with my looks and how subpar it is. I don't need to be part of a standard. Being able to think that you look pretty without comparing yourself is fine as it is.
Another thing that I realized is that Asian beauty standards seem to describe a child as an ideal type. Petite, Small, Small face, small nose, cute mannerism, etc. It weirded me the fuck out. Why the hell would women and even men infantilize themselves? They do this in kpop and kdrama by acting aegyo.

YESSSS!!! I thought I was the only one who was affected in such a way by the Kpop boom. At first I was just interested in the music bc I’d never heard it before then I started getting trapped by their beauty standards. I was very vulnerable at the time mentally as I was trying to get over depression, anxiety, and poor body image. I binged to cope with emotions so I was overweight and I wanted to lose weight thinking it would help. At the same time I was being bombarded by Kpop beauty standards online since TH-cam was just spam advertising me literally every Kpop video or Korean video about weight loss. It also made me more aware of beauty standards in my own country by recommending me Western weight loss videos as well.
One idol caught my attention and her name was Somi. I thought she was really pretty and I liked the music and interviews that were recommended to me. In one interview she stated that in order to lose weight for her comeback she only ate 3 bananas a day. Now I was pretty f(u)cking shocked by this & was like what!!! But since it was in Korea none of the adults around her gave the same reaction as I did so this to me as a kid in middle school basically gave me the go ahead that this was ok. Bc y would these adults condone a teens bad eating habits…😅. I remember I did exactly what they would do and tried to starve myself but I would always break and start binging then feel like crap afterwards. I even went so far as to buy diet pills (I'm still in middle school at this point btw!) luckily my mother found them before I could use them and she gave me the wake up call I needed saying that it’s ok to want to lose weight but I should never go to the extremes to achieve it bc I was still a kid and sh!t like this isn’t healthy for me.
I started to realize how much I’d spiraled after that. I originally just wanted to lose weight to feel better about myself and now I’ve become so obsessed with losing weight I’ve been damaging my physical and mental health even more than before. I was nowhere near happier or healthier. I completely stopped the dieting and extreme workout regimen after this. I found videos like Abbey Sharp that helped me understand why I was binging and how dieting the way I did was so harmful. I started doing my own personal research into health and wellness by reading accurate, evidence-based, current, person-centric, and trustworthy articles. I adapted something called mindful eating. Mindful eating is a technique that helps you gain control over your eating habits. It has been shown to promote weight loss, reduce binge eating, and help you feel better. Mindfulness is a form of meditation that helps you recognize and cope with your emotions and physical sensations. It’s used to treat many conditions, including eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and various food-related behaviors. Mindful eating is about using mindfulness to reach a state of full attention to your experiences, cravings, and physical cues when eating. Fundamentally, mindful eating involves: eating slowly and without distraction, listening to physical hunger cues and eating only until you’re full,
distinguishing between true hunger and non-hunger triggers for eating, engaging your senses by noticing colors, smells, sounds, textures, and flavor, learning to cope with guilt and anxiety about food, eating to maintain overall health and well-being, noticing the effects food has on your feelings and figure, and appreciating your food. These things allow you to replace automatic thoughts and reactions with more conscious, healthier responses.
Mindful eating helped me heal my relationship with food and my body while achieving a sense of body neutrality. I was the most comfortable I’d been in my body for the first time in my life and when I went to the doctor a year later I had actually ended up losing about 15 pounds. The coolest part of this whole exchange was how little f(u)cks I gave😂. It was so exhilarating to not feel like my self worth was determined by a number on the scale anymore & I could already see the results in the way I acted and how I felt. Another year later I started working out again. When I would work out when I was in a bad place I would overdo it. Afterwards it was more so about motivation and finding a schedule that worked for me because I would always fall off. I finally did find a routine that works for me and I at first lost 5 pounds after I started working out in the beginning but recently I’ve gained it back bc 💪🏽. I flex literally all the time 😂. After leaving all the extreme diets and workouts behind me 4 years ago I am much more happy, strong, and confident in myself. And it all happened once I stopped giving a sh!t about beauty standards and stopped letting people profit off my insecurities. I wish more girls my age would do the same.

When you're young, everything seems so big and severe; and then you get older and see zero results for all the effort you put into other people and becoming what they all wanted. Something snaps in you and you're just like, "FORGET IT. If I can't make you happy being what you thought you wanted of me, I might as well be me and find the people that are put together enough to accept that." "What if they remember I did..." The reality is that I can't remember anything others did because I'm simply just focusing on myself for the most of the time.
And I can't assume what they're thinking unless they told me so. Them judging us is their job, not mine 😂

Just try and remember if someone says something bad about you that is because you have something that makes them jealous.... Believe it or not it's true.
