In regards to your question around 20:00. about giving advanced tech to people in earlier wars, there's actually a weird alternate history/sci fi story called "Guns of the South," in which a group of time travelers give AK-47s to the Confederacy, allowing them to win the American Civil War. I can't say that it's a very good story, since the change is so ridiculous, but it's not the worst book I've ever read.
