I honestly think disbelief papyrus is a pretty cool concept Papyrus kinda makes it clear later on that the reason he was not acting like himself for the last 3 phases is majnly because he was trying to do sans or undyne way rather than his own. This is probably why he acts so different in phase 2 and phase 3 until it's revealed that it was all an act because no matter how hard he tries, he really can't stop believing in you.
That "Papyrus still believes in you, but a genocide fight" thing is what i'm hoping for the future You try to hit Papyrus but he also dodges like Sans and goes "Nuh uh! I can't teach you a lesson if i'm dead. Now here comes my first attack!" He does well against you, but the only thing is that when your HP goes low, Papyrus starts to be a little more gentle and deals less damage. If you hit one HP, Papyrus declares himself a winner and traps you in a cage of bones or something, maybe that'll stop you from attacking him A cool concept indeed, I want to see it expanded on

I think the reason why Papyrus gets so mad in phase two is because when you consider the backstory of how he sees how you kill all of his friends, it all builds up to when you actually hit him, that's when he realizes that there's no redeeming you and that's why he gets angry.
Besides Papyrus spent the entire first phase getting slashed at, with his long bone being the only reason he didn't get damaged. How that guy ignored this, I don't know
It still feels like he got possessed by a demon of hatred and acts completely out of character, if Papyrus were to get angry I don’t think he’d go all edgy and out for blood, would’ve been better if they just reworked how Phase 1 ends and skipped straight to Phase 3
Something I really like about phase 3 is how sans and Undyne personalities are greatly exaggerated because of how papyrus views them with sans being extra lazy and Undyne being invulnerable. I feel like atleast for me it makes up for the fact Papyrus should have no way of using attacks like sans' gaster blasters or Undyne's spears and her ability to turn your soul green.

I don't know about the other Disbelief AUs, but I always felt as if the animation by flamesatgames had a stark sense of reality compared to Sans's nonchalance in the original Genocide Route. Although he does say some cryptic things, Sans never really makes the player face the impact they've had on the Underground--and maintains an unaffected, jokey attitude during the battle. I don't even think he pulls out the "Dirty Brother Killer" card (that only happens in the neutral routes where Pap dies iirc), But Disbelief!Papyrus is the total opposite; he's a mess. When we battle him, he is saddened, desperate, vengeful, insane but most of all, conflicted. He fights us not even being sure if he wants to or not--and in fact, hints are there that tell us it might've not even been his choice. And I think this works so well for someone like Papyrus (but it wouldn't for Sans) because he's just that honest with his own feelings. He can't pretend like all of his friends dying is no big deal like Sans can. And so the way Sans and Undyne's deaths affect him to the point of fighting, yet his own instincts to forgive and believe in the human make him repeatedly stop himself feels indeed raw and emotional, but also faithful to his character in a way that isn't caricatural/exaggerated.
Disbelief Papyrus was one of those fangames that was a huge hit back then, as not many fangames were made back then. But now 7 years later, there's a whole lot more for the fangame side of Undertale, raising the bar for how good a fangame is. Which left Disbelief Papyrus as a relic of the past.
Agreed, for an old fan game. It was basically the best game out there as it was one of the few and only games that actually felt unique and not a sans copy of everything. The great music that's also unique...(We don't talk about phase 2 music...-)

Perhaps this fangame aint perfect , but lets be honest , its way better than the ton of Sand undertable edgy and dumbly difficults battles one , and beside , it got soul and is one of the pillars of undertale fangame. So Im thankfull it exist ^^.

0:09 actually Disbelief exists since 2015, but around 2015-2016, it's previous owner (Liquid Mog) didn't do much about the AT other than the concept, in 2017 FlamesAtGames got the ownership of the AT and released that animation.

Yeah gonna have to agree here, it has its issues but i mean... What other fangames did we even have at the time? Undertale Red and a couple of things made in Unitale? Even if Red is one of my favorite fan projects by a mile, for the time period this was SO impressive.

one thing i like about Disbelief Papyrus is that, they managed to turn Megalo Strike Back with a more hopeful/desperate feel to it (his 4th phase), it is kind of mesmerizing in a way
I had the freedom to add tons of interactions and extra content since the animation didn't show such interactions, I needed to stay in bound to be in sync with the animation at all times, that included music, sometimes I would have you dodge an attack longer or force you to wait doing nothing so everything synced beautifully just like in the animation. I'm aware the many flaws the gameplay has indeed because yes, it was not meant to be playable, just seen through a screen as an animation, at least everything is no-hitable, there's people that already no hitted this game in particular, it may be a little extreme and pixel perfect to do so, but that's good enough for me since nerfing this further than it already is kinda removes that feeling the animation was giving in my opinion (I'm kinda unsatisfied with how the Undyne part ended up, probably needs a buff XD) I'm looking forward to what Team Disbelief has in store too, even after all the controversy it happened between us I want to see how the fix all those flaws and details my replica of the animation has, dare I say I even hard coded some of the flaws to be true to the animation XD. The third attack of phase 1, has some strechy bones covering the corners, it looks weird when it's outside the box, but it does look nice when it's inside, I made it that way so you don't abuse the corners and dodge as it was intented in the animation, little details like those aren't in the animation but I added them for the sake of gameplay, I did what I could to keep the animation's feel and fairness in gameplay, it was not much but I did what I could to make this fair, after tons of practice you can beat this game so easily, maybe even with blindfolds, it becomes very easy because almost everything is scripted (except Undyne part). To finish now this comment, thanks for your opinion on this, and yeah the story is kinda dumb in my opinion, Sans just remembers cause yes XD but all in all, it was a good game and experience to make.
I will give this whole concept 1 bonus It represents grief well in papyrus Yes he does things out of character but grief can make you do things you wouldnt normally do, and throughout the whole thing he always sticks to his morals in the end Phase 1 represents depression (he's still processing everyone's deaths and he doesn't understand why you killed them) Phase 2 anger (he wants revenge because you killed his friends, however with his idealogy he can't bring himself to kill you) Phase 3 denial (he doesn't accept sans and undynes death, fighting as they would in an attempt to make it feel like they're still there) Phase 4 acceptance (he's accepted sans and undynes death and decides to do things his way and stick to his morals that everyone can be redeemed)
with his underlying desire for you to stop your madness and cease the killing being the only phase of the processing of grief of the 5 not locked to one part of the fight. bargaining.

Great video! I do think in phase 1,2,3 he tries so hard to be like undyne and sans that he believes his own lie that he "hates" you. In phase 4, he actually acknowledges that he is lying to himself, and his disbelief is faked. Thats why i like this fanwork. @@Military_base01 Flame announced sometime ago (if you call 2-3 years "sometime") that phase 4 is not canon and will not be present in the game. He wanted it to make yet another Revenge T.U.E.-like thing, where Papyrus was possessed by gaster, and phase 4 would be about this instead. But he may have discarded that idea due to community backlash, take my words with a grain of salt
I like to think that the reason why he acts that way in phase 2 is because he's now trying to be something he's not; I don't think his sudden change in mindset is entirely genuine

The main complaint I have with disbelief is that papyrus suddenly can revive his 2 strongest friends, and know how to use all of their strongest attacks in phase 3
Thing is he probably knew undyne's attacks from the beginning so he probably learned to use them now, and for sans he knew his attacks probably from watching him die? If my beliefs that the Undertale fandom commonly misinterpreting Papyrus back in the early years of the game are true, then... Disbelief has impressively aged well, even if it's more for how well it characterizes Papyrus than for the actual gameplay. _Now here comes the part where I once again bring up TS!Underswap because I know it's peak plus I like to speculate/anticipate/predict its future content..._ My biggest wish regarding TS!Underswap is to learn that the boss battle against Papyrus in the Ruthless route may be, in fact, a tribute to Disbelief. It could be as elaborately set up as making the entire fight like if it literally was Team Switched's own take on the AT, or as simple as giving that the honor of becoming the name of TS!Papyrus' "Megalovania equivalent" song!

I'd say that it was pretty creative at the time, given how everything was le funy sans back then. However, Papyrus's belief is a good modern "papyrus if he was the genocide final boss" interpretation imo
Dustbelief Is forgotten by everybody by this point, Dusttrust Is the favorite one here. I wouldn't way It's overrated because It Is really well-done, but almost.
In terms of story, disbelief is okay, the one thing that makes no sense is Papyrus getting insane super saiyan powers and somehow being able to recreate Undyne and Sans. But I at least liked their interactions with Papyrus. Another flaw is Sans remembering genocides but like others have said this was the 2017 UT Community. Disbelief gives me some nostalgia tbh so I'd rate it a 6/10 Imo disbelief should happen somewhere in Snowdin or Waterfall because realistically there's no way Papyrus could even last a second against LV19 Frisk but I don't mind if people make it like that.
One thing that could fix Sans fighting you in snowdin, is to just say that Sans judges by your facial expressions and thinks this isn't the first time you've done a genocide route.
What's with this trend of going, "Oooooo. Actually, the game you enjoyed is bad." Like they make fair points, but some people don't realize some actually like the quirky things others dislike. For example, I like the exaggeration part of where Papyrus gets angry and whatnot. Makes it feel more like a game plot line than some very realistic story. But you can still feel the writing

You can say what you want about this game but the influence it has is probably the greatest with the fandom probably higher than dust sans which is what the fandom likes the most now, it created the thought of sans remembering the genocides it fostered the, “u hit me, im mad now phase 2” and overall boosted the quality of games and animations to come after it due to the quality, even though if it has a good story is up for debate
Another thing i would like to say is that the reason why phase 4 is the only phase to get papyrus right is the point of the game and story, papyrus is trying to act like sans and kill the human which is something he cant bring himself to do. In this story papyrus isnt just in disbelief about you but his self as well
Here are my biases to the game gameplay wise: 1. Papyrus’s attacks for the first two phases use the KARMA mechanic used by Sans in the Original Undertale Game despite there being not one mention of Papyrus embodying Justice. 2. Most of the attacks throughout most of the first two phases are reliant on precision and accuracy to react (Most of these attacks give you about 1-2 seconds of reaction time to dodge them, which is not good). Overall, Undertale Disbelief is a confusing and difficult game that has the player fight a boss who is going through the five stages of grief in one battle. I feel like the game has potential to be one of the best AU if the majority of the gameplay and character development was reworked. But in its current state, it remains a mixed bag.
You can stretch it out and say that Sans could theoretically guess you did many genocides by seeing your expression when you first see him. It isn't how it is in the original AU, but if you stretch it enough, it IS somewhat possible.
Honestly, I feel like phase 2 could work well if the transition into being angry was smoother, with build-up of his trauma that you inflicted throughout the play-through, all triggered at once by you attacking him, forcing him to question his morals towards geno Frisk... all the while until the memories cause him to justifyingly snap causing his anger and making him feel that, much as he hates it, Sans was right. Even the most optimistic person can snap when going through THAT level of trauma so quickly... and in a way, that could also link into the whole trope of 'you know things are bad when the optimistic person stopped being optimistic'. Of course, that would also be best handled with minor tweaks dialogue-wise for why Papyrus stops his assault after Phase 3 (maybe he got 'blindsighted' when he snapped).
It's actually amazing how well made was disbelief unofficial back then, I tried it by myself and it has a lot of content and things to do, like even the official disbelief recreation is practically cancelled and that an unofficial version did it better with less time is just incredible.
You should cover the unofficial Revenge: The Unseen ending, it’s extremely good, and prob the best fangame to do the “I REMEMBER YOU’RE GENOCIDES” and “I ABSORB THE SOULS MWAHAHHAA” tropes
Gotta give props to Cezar Andrade though, for making such a full and interactive (even if not as accurate to the base game) experience only from the animation which shows a single route and a specific course of actions.
Is this the best fangame to get papyrus’s character right? No. Papyrus belief looks like it’s gonna be better in terms of that but does that make it bad? No! I do love this fangame. I can’t speak about the gameplay because I haven’t played it but the story I love, phase 1 is him not knowing whether he should believe in you or not. How i imagine phase 2 is he’s not mad that you hit him. He’s mad that you keep trying to kill him and he tries to be like sans and undyne, phase 3 is confusing but it’s a lot of fun and backbone goes so hard the earth blew up. Good god I love backbone and phase 4 is papyrus being papyrus. I do kinda wish it was a little longer but I love this phase and how perfectly it gets papyrus’s character. Though maybe it’s just me but in the spare ending, I wish frisk walked with papyrus. That would’ve been so emotional. But yeah this fangame or animation is great and you can tell that flamesatgames put in a lot of effort for this animation. And I’m excited to see how the official game is gonna be.
The Story Had Minor Flaws Such As How Did Sans Remember, How Does Papyrus Know About Undyne The Undying And Gaster Blasters And How He Uses Those Abilities But It Greatly Portrays Papyrus And The Story Is Just Truly Great For The Time And In My Opinion Even To This Day.

Ngl, Disbelief itself had enough potential to be a full AU about monsters having extraordinary soul powers instead of just focusing about the tall bone man Iirc there's an official demo with 2 phases only so far with the intro being same as Undertale but with Gaster doing experiments on monsters before he fell into the CORE, the "AU" itself could have just used that to justify how Sans remembered your genocide route, and how Papyrus got his Bravery-looking "mysterious enchanted power". It could have been great
Disbelief is cool and all, I like the character interactions but the attacks themselves are significantly more difficult compared to the actual sans fight and while I do see papyrus being stronger than sans to a certain extent, to be THIS stronger is unrealistic ngl that being said it's pretty fun to watch
Honestly my biggest problem with Disbelief is the fact that most of the time, it doesn't really potray Papyrus correctly for the most part. I wonder if the spirit and content of the phases could still be relatively the same while changing Papyrus to be more like his canon self?
The original animation is still good to this day. Can’t speak on the actual game and if it’s good on a technical level, but to those complaining Papyrus doesn’t do or say things he normally would, well, that’s the point of an AU. Unless the creators insist he’s suppose to be 100% lore accurate, I don’t think character “inaccuracies” or magic nonsense should be used as criticisms if it’s a good AU concept or not.
I think as many do the core concept of disbelief is a good one, the execution for the time was stellar but has fallen a bit short nowadays. Papyrus would be a very interesting character to me because while it’s clear he has the potential to maybe stop the human, his character and personality is both a flaw and benefit. If I had an interpretation it would be one where while papyrus is clearly quite miserable it shows itself with a bit more subtlety. But the interpretation of the phase 3 being almost a “what would they want?” Is quite fascinating. I would love to see a reimagining of this concept as I think it has a lot of potential
20:12 Id say yes. They were. This whole animation, at least in my opinion, was never about you the player. It was about Papyrus and him coming to terms with himself. His guilt, grief, regrets, morals and how he's coping with everything that has happened. He feels the weight of the world on his back and he keeps trying to be other people and do what he'd think theyd do or want him to be. First he tries to be sans, apathetic and solom doing his job. Then he tries to be you and match your energy. Then he tries to be what he envisions he thinks he is, a hero much like Undyne. Finally he comes to acceptance. He realizes hes just him. He realizes hes no hero, no martyr, no judge. Hes just a skeleton. A person with hopes and dreams and most importantly his own beliefs and morals to stand on to the end. And he does. He sticks to his (fanon) guns and tries to the end to make you better
I really like disbelief cause it intentionally makes papyrus's character different except the end because he was trying to be like sans and undyne which doesn't work for him as they never wanted hjm to be like them but better which all accumulates to phase 4 and also sad you didn't use the original phase 4 song cause the original is imo better and hits harder

Sans's solo attack in phase 3 is also in sync with the music. It always ends at Sans's part of the music but how long it takes to get there is when u start the attack alongside the music

It still feels like he got possessed by a demon of hatred and acts completely out of character, if Papyrus were to get angry I don’t think he’d go all edgy and out for blood, would’ve been better if they just reworked how Phase 1 ends and skipped straight to Phase 3
Something I really like about phase 3 is how sans and Undyne personalities are greatly exaggerated because of how papyrus views them with sans being extra lazy and Undyne being invulnerable. I feel like atleast for me it makes up for the fact Papyrus should have no way of using attacks like sans' gaster blasters or Undyne's spears and her ability to turn your soul green.

I don't know about the other Disbelief AUs, but I always felt as if the animation by flamesatgames had a stark sense of reality compared to Sans's nonchalance in the original Genocide Route. Although he does say some cryptic things, Sans never really makes the player face the impact they've had on the Underground--and maintains an unaffected, jokey attitude during the battle. I don't even think he pulls out the "Dirty Brother Killer" card (that only happens in the neutral routes where Pap dies iirc),
But Disbelief!Papyrus is the total opposite; he's a mess. When we battle him, he is saddened, desperate, vengeful, insane but most of all, conflicted. He fights us not even being sure if he wants to or not--and in fact, hints are there that tell us it might've not even been his choice. And I think this works so well for someone like Papyrus (but it wouldn't for Sans) because he's just that honest with his own feelings. He can't pretend like all of his friends dying is no big deal like Sans can. And so the way Sans and Undyne's deaths affect him to the point of fighting, yet his own instincts to forgive and believe in the human make him repeatedly stop himself feels indeed raw and emotional, but also faithful to his character in a way that isn't caricatural/exaggerated.
Disbelief Papyrus was one of those fangames that was a huge hit back then, as not many fangames were made back then. But now 7 years later, there's a whole lot more for the fangame side of Undertale, raising the bar for how good a fangame is. Which left Disbelief Papyrus as a relic of the past.
Personally though, Disbelief Papyrus will always be a good fangame to me.
Agreed, for an old fan game. It was basically the best game out there as it was one of the few and only games that actually felt unique and not a sans copy of everything. The great music that's also unique...(We don't talk about phase 2 music...-)

The whole thing with Papyrus (especially in the fandom) is that, yes, Papyrus giving up all his morals and such to murder you (without outside influence) is fanon. But him being such a cinnamon roll that he'll always forgive you no matter what you ever do is _also_ fanon. I'm sure that if Papyrus had the same memories of previous genocide runs that Sans did in this, it _would_ break him into not believing in the human anymore. Heck, you could even argue that just watching the human go through this _one_ run would chip away at him.

one thing i like about Disbelief Papyrus is that, they managed to turn Megalo Strike Back with a more hopeful/desperate feel to it (his 4th phase), it is kind of mesmerizing in a way

I had the freedom to add tons of interactions and extra content since the animation didn't show such interactions, I needed to stay in bound to be in sync with the animation at all times, that included music, sometimes I would have you dodge an attack longer or force you to wait doing nothing so everything synced beautifully just like in the animation.
I'm aware the many flaws the gameplay has indeed because yes, it was not meant to be playable, just seen through a screen as an animation, at least everything is no-hitable, there's people that already no hitted this game in particular, it may be a little extreme and pixel perfect to do so, but that's good enough for me since nerfing this further than it already is kinda removes that feeling the animation was giving in my opinion (I'm kinda unsatisfied with how the Undyne part ended up, probably needs a buff XD)
I'm looking forward to what Team Disbelief has in store too, even after all the controversy it happened between us I want to see how the fix all those flaws and details my replica of the animation has, dare I say I even hard coded some of the flaws to be true to the animation XD.
The third attack of phase 1, has some strechy bones covering the corners, it looks weird when it's outside the box, but it does look nice when it's inside, I made it that way so you don't abuse the corners and dodge as it was intented in the animation, little details like those aren't in the animation but I added them for the sake of gameplay, I did what I could to keep the animation's feel and fairness in gameplay, it was not much but I did what I could to make this fair, after tons of practice you can beat this game so easily, maybe even with blindfolds, it becomes very easy because almost everything is scripted (except Undyne part).
To finish now this comment, thanks for your opinion on this, and yeah the story is kinda dumb in my opinion, Sans just remembers cause yes XD but all in all, it was a good game and experience to make.

Yes he does things out of character but grief can make you do things you wouldnt normally do, and throughout the whole thing he always sticks to his morals in the end
Phase 1 represents depression (he's still processing everyone's deaths and he doesn't understand why you killed them)
Phase 2 anger (he wants revenge because you killed his friends, however with his idealogy he can't bring himself to kill you)
Phase 3 denial (he doesn't accept sans and undynes death, fighting as they would in an attempt to make it feel like they're still there)
Phase 4 acceptance (he's accepted sans and undynes death and decides to do things his way and stick to his morals that everyone can be redeemed)
with his underlying desire for you to stop your madness and cease the killing being the only phase of the processing of grief of the 5 not locked to one part of the fight. bargaining.

Honestly, I consider Disbelief one of those "So bad its good" AUs, to where you can sort of enjoy it ironically when you don't take it too seriously.
It’s very much a product of its time in terms of the UT fandom. From the obligatory glowing eye, to Megalo Strike Back’s inclusion, and of course the random deus ex machina powerups, it has a lot of merit as a sort of time capsule of that early Undertale fandom campiness imo

The main complaint I have with disbelief is that papyrus suddenly can revive his 2 strongest friends, and know how to use all of their strongest attacks in phase 3

If my beliefs that the Undertale fandom commonly misinterpreting Papyrus back in the early years of the game are true, then... Disbelief has impressively aged well, even if it's more for how well it characterizes Papyrus than for the actual gameplay.

My biggest wish regarding TS!Underswap is to learn that the boss battle against Papyrus in the Ruthless route may be, in fact, a tribute to Disbelief. It could be as elaborately set up as making the entire fight like if it literally was Team Switched's own take on the AT, or as simple as giving that the honor of becoming the name of TS!Papyrus' "Megalovania equivalent" song!

In terms of story, disbelief is okay, the one thing that makes no sense is Papyrus getting insane super saiyan powers and somehow being able to recreate Undyne and Sans. But I at least liked their interactions with Papyrus.
Another flaw is Sans remembering genocides but like others have said this was the 2017 UT Community.
Disbelief gives me some nostalgia tbh so I'd rate it a 6/10
Imo disbelief should happen somewhere in Snowdin or Waterfall because realistically there's no way Papyrus could even last a second against LV19 Frisk but I don't mind if people make it like that.
One thing that could fix Sans fighting you in snowdin, is to just say that Sans judges by your facial expressions and thinks this isn't the first time you've done a genocide route.

What's with this trend of going, "Oooooo. Actually, the game you enjoyed is bad." Like they make fair points, but some people don't realize some actually like the quirky things others dislike. For example, I like the exaggeration part of where Papyrus gets angry and whatnot. Makes it feel more like a game plot line than some very realistic story. But you can still feel the writing

You can say what you want about this game but the influence it has is probably the greatest with the fandom probably higher than dust sans which is what the fandom likes the most now, it created the thought of sans remembering the genocides it fostered the, “u hit me, im mad now phase 2” and overall boosted the quality of games and animations to come after it due to the quality, even though if it has a good story is up for debate
Another thing i would like to say is that the reason why phase 4 is the only phase to get papyrus right is the point of the game and story, papyrus is trying to act like sans and kill the human which is something he cant bring himself to do. In this story papyrus isnt just in disbelief about you but his self as well

Here are my biases to the game gameplay wise:
1. Papyrus’s attacks for the first two phases use the KARMA mechanic used by Sans in the Original Undertale Game despite there being not one mention of Papyrus embodying Justice.
2. Most of the attacks throughout most of the first two phases are reliant on precision and accuracy to react (Most of these attacks give you about 1-2 seconds of reaction time to dodge them, which is not good).
Overall, Undertale Disbelief is a confusing and difficult game that has the player fight a boss who is going through the five stages of grief in one battle. I feel like the game has potential to be one of the best AU if the majority of the gameplay and character development was reworked. But in its current state, it remains a mixed bag.
You can stretch it out and say that Sans could theoretically guess you did many genocides by seeing your expression when you first see him. It isn't how it is in the original AU, but if you stretch it enough, it IS somewhat possible.
Honestly, I feel like phase 2 could work well if the transition into being angry was smoother, with build-up of his trauma that you inflicted throughout the play-through, all triggered at once by you attacking him, forcing him to question his morals towards geno Frisk... all the while until the memories cause him to justifyingly snap causing his anger and making him feel that, much as he hates it, Sans was right.
Even the most optimistic person can snap when going through THAT level of trauma so quickly... and in a way, that could also link into the whole trope of 'you know things are bad when the optimistic person stopped being optimistic'.
Of course, that would also be best handled with minor tweaks dialogue-wise for why Papyrus stops his assault after Phase 3 (maybe he got 'blindsighted' when he snapped).
It's actually amazing how well made was disbelief unofficial back then, I tried it by myself and it has a lot of content and things to do, like even the official disbelief recreation is practically cancelled and that an unofficial version did it better with less time is just incredible.
Hopefully the remaster, “Papyrus’ Belief” which is being worked on serves justice to this AU.

Is this the best fangame to get papyrus’s character right? No. Papyrus belief looks like it’s gonna be better in terms of that but does that make it bad? No! I do love this fangame. I can’t speak about the gameplay because I haven’t played it but the story I love, phase 1 is him not knowing whether he should believe in you or not. How i imagine phase 2 is he’s not mad that you hit him. He’s mad that you keep trying to kill him and he tries to be like sans and undyne, phase 3 is confusing but it’s a lot of fun and backbone goes so hard the earth blew up. Good god I love backbone and phase 4 is papyrus being papyrus. I do kinda wish it was a little longer but I love this phase and how perfectly it gets papyrus’s character. Though maybe it’s just me but in the spare ending, I wish frisk walked with papyrus. That would’ve been so emotional. But yeah this fangame or animation is great and you can tell that flamesatgames put in a lot of effort for this animation. And I’m excited to see how the official game is gonna be.

The original animation is still good to this day. Can’t speak on the actual game and if it’s good on a technical level, but to those complaining Papyrus doesn’t do or say things he normally would, well, that’s the point of an AU. Unless the creators insist he’s suppose to be 100% lore accurate, I don’t think character “inaccuracies” or magic nonsense should be used as criticisms if it’s a good AU concept or not.

I think as many do the core concept of disbelief is a good one, the execution for the time was stellar but has fallen a bit short nowadays. Papyrus would be a very interesting character to me because while it’s clear he has the potential to maybe stop the human, his character and personality is both a flaw and benefit. If I had an interpretation it would be one where while papyrus is clearly quite miserable it shows itself with a bit more subtlety. But the interpretation of the phase 3 being almost a “what would they want?” Is quite fascinating. I would love to see a reimagining of this concept as I think it has a lot of potential

Id say yes. They were. This whole animation, at least in my opinion, was never about you the player. It was about Papyrus and him coming to terms with himself. His guilt, grief, regrets, morals and how he's coping with everything that has happened. He feels the weight of the world on his back and he keeps trying to be other people and do what he'd think theyd do or want him to be. First he tries to be sans, apathetic and solom doing his job. Then he tries to be you and match your energy. Then he tries to be what he envisions he thinks he is, a hero much like Undyne. Finally he comes to acceptance. He realizes hes just him. He realizes hes no hero, no martyr, no judge. Hes just a skeleton. A person with hopes and dreams and most importantly his own beliefs and morals to stand on to the end. And he does. He sticks to his (fanon) guns and tries to the end to make you better
I really like disbelief cause it intentionally makes papyrus's character different except the end because he was trying to be like sans and undyne which doesn't work for him as they never wanted hjm to be like them but better which all accumulates to phase 4 and also sad you didn't use the original phase 4 song cause the original is imo better and hits harder

not gonna lie, i believe that the personality change between phase 1 and 2 is that after he breaks down and you still try to hit him, he realizes that you're beyond saving and finally trys to defeat you.

Sans's solo attack in phase 3 is also in sync with the music. It always ends at Sans's part of the music but how long it takes to get there is when u start the attack alongside the music

I think that it could be majorly improved on but overall it isn’t bad at all
