It's worse than that. A professional truck driver should be able to look at something like this and be able to know whether they can get over the hump or not. He also most likely saw the truck symbol on the sign had two axles and he has 4-5 axles and that made it ok for him to attempt this.

Driving a Semi on the west side especially Venice can be a pain. I can see this happening if you're not familiar with the area. I bet she missed her turn at Lincoln heading west on Washington and panicked. Could have went down Abbot Kinney instead. And I don't think she would have been able to turn north on Pacific or Ocean from Washington with a 53 foot can on that chassis. Dell Street from the intersection probably seemed somewhat wide to make it out until she reached the canals. Where she screwed up was trying to make it over that bridge and ignoring that sign. Should have called for help to back her out instead. I actually feel sorry for her. People make mistakes,. I once helped a simi truck get out of a jam at the north end of Pershing Drive where that narrow transition road takes you down to Culver. He was delivering furniture. No one died here, so it was a teaching / learning moment.
Either Pacific or Ocean would have been good options. They are both wide streets with center lines. Pacific Avenue has bus routes on it. So a truck should have no problem on it. Neither of those streets have No Truck signs. Instead though she chose a narrow residential street with no center line. Which lead to an 11 foot wide, 10 foot high raised canal bridge, with a 6,000 pond weight limit. Anybody with even a small understanding of the dynamics of a truck should have realized that at best there was a 100% chance the truck was going to bottom out on the bridge and at worst the truck would be so over weight that it would collapse the bridge and put the truck in the water causing a major disaster. She is lucky results were the best. The woman is unfit to be driving a truck.
Before even travelling anywhere, real truckers know their routes they can take with their total weight. Every road has a legal truck weight limit allowing deliveries on, and then there's bridges with weight limits and height restrictions as well. Semi tractors can't travel on just any roadway. An experienced trucker does their homework first before entering any such locations they need to deliver to or from. Just lucky that bridge didn't collapse with all that weight on it. The tractor alone is about 10,000 to 25,000 lbs depending on its size. Oh, and included are warning signage out there to help them and others understand the safety.
@@MaxZomboni Yup, she needs to go back to the school of common sense. That bridge can hold more than 6,000 pounds. We drove our ladder truck and fire engines over those bridges on a regular basis when I was assigned to Fire Station 63 down the street from there. I remember the captains checking with the city engineers about that when we got the newer ladder truck. I forget what the actual max was. Unfortunately, the harbor bombers (Container drivers) are notorious for a higher number of accidents. We had a few rollovers involving them in the Port of LA when I transferred to Wilmington before retiring two years ago.
Surprising what happens when you litterly follow your GPS, happens a lot in the UK with HGVs been guided into small villages where roads were built for horse and cart
Looks like what happened is the trailer landing gear caught the bridge because of the steep angle. When that happened it lifted the drives up high enough that there wasn't enough traction for the truck to back off on its own. It really doesn't take much for a tractor to lose traction.
I hope she got a ticket for failing to obey the No sign. Not mention All the extra time the police had to spend, as well as the tow. Someone has to pay and she should lose her job or be sued if she owns the truck.
With a pull forward, he would have been able to drive away. the landing gear was already over the hump, road going down, and the rear wheels were on the way up.

As a lay person I would first if possible, disconnect the tractor from the trailor. Then lift the trailer up and roll it backward. Its easy to over simplify and expect the semi driver to read all the signs at every intersection, when he may have other things on his mind.
Sooo much of what you thought was very wrong...disconnecting the tractor and trailer with pressure on the pin from high hook condition is almost impossible with a manual release and totally impossible with an auto release. Both need the tractor to be on the ground and have traction to pull away from the trailer. Separating the tractor and trailer disconnects air lines that supply air to the trailer to release the parking brake and apply the service brake. The brakes could be caged to roll freely but on a grade such as this bridge, it's then going to roll with no way to stop it. Might help to ask questions first and let the pros handle it.
And not to mention, every driver had damned sure better be paying attention to every sign facing them. Sure we've all missed one, but multiple signs missed like this case? She better be glad the sign didn't say "Bridge Out"!
