  • This video explains how to set up this AMAZING Spotify media player on your dashboard in Home Assistant. If you combine this player with the radio player that I showed in last week's video, you can create one media player that plays your favorite Radio stations and Spotify playlists on your smart speakers in your home like this! And you don't even need to have a Spotify Premium account for this!

The Spotify Mini Media Player seems to give some issues for some people in the last couple of days. Adding these lines to your configuration.yaml and rebooting HA after that seems to fix the issue (for now):

You can do this : create a dropdown helper with your speakers and create a conditional card per speaker with the mini-media-card in it (configured for that speaker). So if you have 3 speakers, you have 3 conditional cards. Only one mini-card will be displayed, depending of the chosen speaker.

    Thanks for the nice tutorial!
After some fiddling got it working with Amazon Echo Dots. All you gotta do is make sure you connect Alexa app from Spotify and it worked.
For my Google Nest mini I had to first connect to it via the Spotify app. Now they all work just fine 😊
Just in case anyone else has some trouble setting it up.
Now I just need to get two things working: either have a input_select for playlists or create a popup (with bubble card popup) to select a playlist and second: create a text input field where you can type what you want to listen to…(no idea how that could work 😅)

Thanks Ed. I've combined the one Mini Media Player for both Radio and Spotify using your method.
Spotify is a little buggy, often requiring multiple button presses before working correctly, or even having to play a radio station first before playing a Spotify playlist. I don't know why, but it does refer to Spotify not retrieving the Entity ID (something to that effect).

Hi Ed - Excellent video again. One thing I’m trying to see that might be supported somewhere is being able to see the playlist on the device that’s being played and skip to a particular track in that list. I am unable to see any examples of this natively in Home Assistant, but I have seen something like it in Music Assistant or even using NodeRed to read the players and select a track from the music queue. Could the HA community come together here to make something like this within mini media player, so you could completely do away with apps like Sonos which allows viewing the queue on selected players or groups? I’ve had a first attempt at doing something in NodeRed but it might be good to see if the functionality of some of the media players could extended to use the NodeRed capabilities to view player queues from products like Sonos..

Thank you for posting this. I am a few months into HA and learning YAML having come from an Insteon ISY994i environment. I have found your videos to be the best on TH-cam for my learning style.
I was able to get the spotcast service (v3.6.30) to finally install correctly by removing the country reference in the YAML file. I had specified "country: CA" thinking that it required the correct country code. As others have noted I have it working on my Amazon Echo devices including my Alexa enabled Bose Smart Speaker. One thing I am trying to figure out is how I can highlight the playlist button once it is selected. There are so many options with the mini player hopefully there is something there that can be used. • @KielerInKanada
      @KielerInKanada ปีที่แล้ว

@@federicosuffredini6849 You need to first ensure the "Alexa Media player" integration installed correctly. Once this is installed each of your echo device should show as devices.
Each Echo device has various entities which you can test in the "Developer Tools", specifically the service called "Notifications: Send a notification via alexa_media_[echo device name].
Using "Developer Tools" use the service I just mentioned to send a "Message" to the device. If this doesn't work than you have a problem with the "Alexa Media Player" integration and need to focus your research on this.
If the integration works using the developer tool keep in mind that SPOTCAST uses your entity name whereas Spotify may use a different name. I used the Spotify App and Alexa voice command to determine the device names Spotify uses and then used the matching name to fill in "device_name: " which was completely different than the entity name that SPOTCAST uses .

@@SmartHomeJunkie I just did watch your last video. It is interesting, I have seen a couple of other videos about this solution. But.. The major eco voice assistant systems already exist, such as Google Home and Alexa, so on. In my case, I have many Google speakers/smart displays all around my house, but I can't use them to command HA since Google's Dialogflow has been sunsetted not a long time ago. I believe I am not the only one who doesn't feel like getting an extra voice assistant (another box) though.. Many discussions have been opened up regarding this topic, unfortunately with no clear result or solution. I have my own NAS, full of my 30 year old audio collection. I could use Plex + HA + Plex Assistant, a very elegant and sophisticated solution for playing your own local music on any cast smart speaker/display controlled by Google Assistant. Basically it has worked exactly like Voice controlled Spotify, the only difference was that you've played your own local music collection. This is no longer possible since the sunset of Dialogflow and IFTT Google Assistant version 2, that has stopped supporting the conversation phrases. To give you an idea of what I am looking for, here is an example of my command "OK Google, ask Plex to play U2 on the Living room display"

Is there anyway to call spotify as a media source (like this) within HA but without using HACS and Mini Media player? I have a spotify premium account. I don't necessarily want all the bells and whistles like this awesome dashboard spotify player. Just something simpler. I don't want things for free either. Nor do I want to install hacs (and tick all those 4 boxes) which might in any way risk all my other essential HA code. Why isn't Mini Media player available as an official app? If not, how long is this coming? In the meantime whilst I wait for it;s "official release" direct within HA, so I don't have to keep going to the spotify app all the time to start playing things like playlists and casting it to connect players using their app first (outside HA) to "play something" , how do I simply add spotify as a home assistant mediasource? @@TobiasKarlsson-co5zs Okay, just checking. No offense. Strange that is not working. Today, one of my parlays didn't work either. I started a radio station first and then switched to the Spotify playlist and it started again after that. I thought it was a strange hickup, but maybe it's the same issue now I think of it.

Use a PC!!! Nah, just kidding. Right click with your mouse in Chrome and select inspect. That will do the same.

Niks werkt. HELP.

I just upgraded to 2023.3.1 and the spotcast integration no longer works.
