    My hands are fairly small for a guy and I have always used standard size. Recently changed to mid size and what a great difference. I put on the Golf pride CP2 wraps and Pro's and its a much better golfing world for me. The difference in performance is unbelievable. My ability to control the golf club increased greatly. Sad thing is the grip size is a part of the puzzle that golfers almost never think about. This was an excellent tutorial on grip size. Very thoughtful. Another thought. Its not always an exact science. When I went to my fitters and put my hands against the chart to measure for grip size it read that I should be using standard or maybe a tad smaller. Yet you put a mid size grip on the club and those two fingers just barely or lightly touch as mentioned in this video. So I had two different choices. I decided to go with what felt better in my hands. I also had an old hybrid club that had always been my best bet in the bag. I checked the grip size and it was mid size . So the measuring charts may say one thing and your results might indeed be better going up a size.

      I have slightly larger than average hands. Have been using standard size +1/64. Recently I stand midsize (+3/64). Irons are better eliminated left miss having trouble with driver slicing. Likely a swing issue with driver as 3 and 7 woods are not slicing.

    I just got my 7 iron re-gripped to a midsize ($11 installed for a GP Tour Velvet), giving it a go at the range. If it feels nice I'll regrip the whole set. What's strange is that my fingers wrap around and slightly touch my palm for both standard and midsize grips. I wear an ML glove. I guess it'll just come down to feel for me.

    Wow this came just as I’ve added two tapes under a standard grip. My problem was I kept pulling the ball left, checked that I was not going over the top so thickened the grip…..I must say it worked and my last game I was more accurate with my short irons…ball on green as opposed to left just off. I also as I had a jumbo grip (no idea how I came to have it) I put it on my pitching wedge…….I was hitting it straight as a die….only problem was it was going my normal 9 iron distance…..adapted to that. Still think I’ll go up to midsize…..I have a medium glove but I think my fingers are long and as you grip in the fingers a larger grip helps. Great video as always.

    • @EFGMC
      @EFGMC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Basic rule with putter grips is the bigger the grip, the more it restricts your hand and wrist movement. It can be good if you are handsy or flippy in your stroke. Down side is you lose some feel. So that is the basic trade off.
      Personally I will try an oversized grip of some sort every few years, and then quickly realize that they just aren't for me.
      But you can totally use this same method with putter grips. Add some tape to the whole thing or just build up the lower hand to get more of that reduced taper feel.

    I've started down the Bryson oversized route. I started by trying it on my driver first. I had a cheap $20 driver and put the grip on. After 10 or so balls of adjustment I've never driven so well. I can control the club face far easier and added 30-50 yards compared to the stock grip with this club (220 -> 275). I've got another large grip coming to fit on my actual driver. I've also got two grips that are a size down coming to try on an iron and a hybrid.

    What about size and actual level of grip offered by the grip type, texture and traction etc? As diameter increases so does the surface area of contact, and I've found that it can really hinder my release. I've then gone from having a little too much draw spin from being 'handsy' to then hitting a little thin, topped or just plain poorly. It seems that i'm not releasing the club anything like the way I was previously and all timing is out. I'm now thinking of going to the same increased mid size but with a slightly smoother grip surface. Any thoughts or experience of this occurring?

    • @EFGMC
      @EFGMC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adding extra tape layers to a grip usually increases the weight the same basic amount as a naturally thinker grip (maybe a few grams less). 4-5g of added weight will lower the swing weight 1 point. So a typical midsize grip will drop the swing weight 2-3 points.
      That being said, I usually don't advise trying to bring that swing weight back up with tip weights or lead tape just to hit a certain SW value since you are just adding more weight to the club and increasing the total weight.

      All comes down to feel. Other issue with any buildup tape is you are actually stretching and thinning out the grip walls when you do it, so even if you have extra layers of tape, the result will not necessarily be the same as a midsize grip for example.

      I have full set of these grips on irons and driver. Anyone interested let me know! The irons are very easy to hit with the back weighted grips. Mr B had full equipment company that never quite made it commercially. Happy to contribute to mobile club maker for testing!

    How many layers of tape can be put on grips untill it’s too hard to slip on ?
    Will it be easer with air ??

    I tried moving from standard to mid size some years ago on an old hybrid and was disappointed the feel off the face totally changed for the worse. Subsequently I was led to believe this might have been due to a change in the weight of the grip and therefore swing weight. Could this have led to the feel of contact becoming very dead and woolly? These days I use the MCC+4 but after watching this I am tempted to try a little more tape under the top part of the grip as well.

    • @EFGMC
      @EFGMC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      More material in the midsize grip will result in a bit less feel through the grip. That's just something you would need to get used to. Could it also be the change in SW, it could.
      Personally I think the importance of having the right size grip outweighs a loss of feel. If you keep using them from a month or so, I'd bet you'll stop noticing the difference.

    Good morning from Canada. I enjoy your informative videos, thank you.
    My question is, I've purchased a new set of irons, can I use your air compressor trick to remove the grips on factory irons and put on a extra rap of tape to increase the grip size ?

    • @EFGMC
      @EFGMC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wouldn't hurt. If you are making full swings then probably want the grip assuming you usually wear one.

  • @Mikesmeyer88
    @Mikesmeyer88 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah that's fine and dandy but it would be sweet if you could remove old grips without damage. I just use the old golf pride tour velvet standard or lampkin standard on my wedges and hybrid not thick at all. I fee like putting more tape on just makes the grip feel gummy under it., I have huge hands but the thicker grips never feel right to me. I play a set of Callaway prototypes and it would probably save my hands having more rubber but I like the feeling.

    If you wear a glove, put it on when measuring. Fairly sure it makes a difference, being as it really should feel like at least a single wrap, no?

    I have seen a lot of people going to 2 extra wraps under their lower hand….not sure what the advantages or disadvantages of this might be….

    • @EFGMC
      @EFGMC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The idea is to make your lower hand have less tension that can be caused with a smaller grip diameter. Some people like it, some don't. That's why it's important to try it and see how if feels for you since two people can have opposite views on it.

      Not any great way to replicate that. You can make a standard rubber grip play smaller by stretching it an extra 3/4 inch down during install.
