- The first lot of culls for the season head out the gate and it's a sad day to see number 27 finally go to. She's had a great life and been looked after so well here on the farm but unfortunately her time is up.

Hey I’m Andrew a kiwi once a day dairy farmer, follow me as I post videos of our daily farm life milking 320 jersey cows in beautiful New Zealand.
The cows are almost on a all grass system with a bit of supplement to allow for our hot dry summers.
I farm with my father on our family dairy farm making me the 4th Generation to farm here.

Thanks For Watching!!!
We milked around 250 head twice a day, out of a 300 plus herd.
Always sectioned off our paddocks, Very successfully to maintain.
Happy farming from Queensland, Australia.
👌👍
Great videos Around 15 to 20 minutes great Informative and interesting every time
10 to 15 mins is a good time :-)
Between 10 and 15 is great. Great videos keep them coming.
Thanks! Will do!
Thanks for explanation of stock details. Cow 14 years old speaks to your management skill. Good luck w/ replacements.
🐂🐂😷👍
Cheers mate 🤙
15-20 mins really interesting vids well presented. From Scotland
Thanks! 👍
yes 10to 15 minutes is good we some times want a catch up not a program so this is good timing for me
I found this vlog week and being binge watching since I was brought up on the family dairy farm so im enjoying this cheers
Yeah I think 10-15 minutes is a good length to, where abouts are you from?
Thanks for watching 👍
@@TheOnceADayFarmer we live in takaka beside the farm my brother owns now ,, in the old family farm house the farm has been in the family for over 115 years
That’s awesome, I really love it down there it’s so nice 👍
I think the deferred paddock looks fine.
The cows are in good condition-
10-15 minutes is a good length
video but then again I could look at those jerseys all day lol
15minutes I think is the right the
amount of time to me
Enjoyed
10-15 is good
Wonderful videos I like how you explain issues with cows
I had a friesian hereford cross cow that lived to 26 and still had a calf at 25 years of age. Unfortunately she got stuck in a bog and died otherwise would have lived another year or two.
Far out that’s pretty old aye!
Yeah dad had an old Australian Illawarra shorthorn that was 22.
I called her big red, she was retired
Years ago from the dairy herd.
She got to run with our beef herd
And reared the biggest calves
Every year.
10-15 min vids are good. I'm from "Americas Dairyland " which is the state of Wisconsin in north central US. I graze for 6 months per year with 50 holstein cows and 36 heifers. (18 new and 18 yearlings each year)
That’s awesome and thanks for watching👍 hope it’s warming up for you over there
Ten to 15 minutes is good Andrew as you are busy with your farm Work
Another great vid. Ideal time span, keep up the good work
The deferred grazing looks like it worked a treat.
When you say the culled cows are of to the works,of to the factory to be processed? What do they do with the meat?
I’m not 100% sure but I think most of it would get exported, I think it also goes into MacDonalds patties 👍
Hi I like your video
Just keep doing what u r doing bro great videos
We did the tb test today all clear! havent had tb sence my granny was a kid!
Good stuff 👍
Nice program you got 👍
Thanks!
Well timed video releas for the morning coffee. Do you think the jump in production is due to the slowing down on the deffered to let the better grass ahead? How has the deffered worked overall?
I think it has Certainly helped without a doubt. I'm pretty happy with the deferral overall, I think I will give it another go next year too
10 to 15 is good, the deferred paddocks look like they coming back nicely 👍
Yeah I’m pretty happy with them so far 👍
15 to 20 minutes is good for me!!
Your vids are awesome love watching them, all of them! Is there an old parlour where you loaded them cows?
Thanks 🙏!
Yeah, it was the main cowshed for that farm but we don’t use it anymore because we milk everything through the other shed, if that makes sense 👍
I really love your vedios.but this one is really really sad .they gave their milk .their calves and I personally would not slaughter the animals who served me that much.with the sterile heifers and male calfs its allright but the 14 year old cow 🥲 man she gave her everything atleast keep her till she dies naturally as a gratitude to her work 💔
By the way TN waving a hand!
what do you do with your calfs every year do you add to your herd or sell them
Try to carry about a 25% replacement rate, sell as many bull calves to calf rearers as I can and the rest get bobbied
How far r u from nearest Walmart or grocery store I assume they have Walmart in New Zealand? Hell I don't know lol
The closet supermarket is about 5 mins away, we live next to a fairly big town. We don’t have Walmart in NZ tho 😂
@@TheOnceADayFarmer oh no Wally world lol
We don't have Walmart in Australia
Or New Zealand. Retail wages are
Too high here for them.
The crooks make Americans
Work for $11 per hour. Here
People will just go on welfare
Than work for that. He would
Have a supermarket in his local
Town.
You make excellent videos. Prettiest jersey I have ever seen. I have one heifer for house cow. You sure talk funny. Your not fromTennessee by any chance?
Haha no I’m a New Zealander through and through 🤙
Your content is beautiful, continue, follow you from the United Arab Emirates
Thanks for watching 👍
10 to 15 mins is good.
I could never be a farmer, too many hard decisions to make, I couldn't do it😔
Have you ever had any other breeds like British friesan and fleckvieh or has it always been jersey. Great video
I don’t know about him but most farms in New Zealand have friesian, jersey or a mix so they have possibly had friesians probably not fleckvieh but most family farms keep the breed the same through the generations.
Have always been jersey. Have had a couple of Ayrshires in the past but not anymore. Thanks 👍
Can you use the old milking shed for parts if you need to and how long does it take you to milk by yourself I can do everything in 2hrs including clean up you have a nice herd of jerseys do you drink your own milk
If you watched him eat breakfast it from a container
Yeah we have raided a few things from it. I do drink my own milk from time to time. Milking takes roughly about 4.5 - 5 hours from getting cows in and then all washed up.
15 to 20 minutes makes for awesome lengths of videos
My grandma and grandpa raised their dairy cows to age of 16
That’s pretty impressive!
Thought it was only us in uk that only had paper work for our cows bet you don’t have passports for them though
Just forms and scan on and off truck. As long as they are healthy and have the ear tagged and forms filled out correctly they are good to go.
Nah no passports just the TB form and that's it, but yeah they have to have two forms of ID (eartag and a nait tag)
Hey did I miss a video did you get your corn chopped??
No it’s coming out next 👍
Another good video well i think 15 min video is great...
Thanks 👍
Do you ever use any of your cows for beef for yourself I raise my own steers for beef and pigs and sheep for freezer meat
How many tons of milk in a single day?
At the moment about 2500 litres.
I'm not sure I heard what happens to the cows... Dog food?
No not pet food, they go mostly for mince and get put in hamburger patties 👍
Hyy bro nice work keep it up. Can I find any job on urs dairy farm
Sorry mate we don’t hire anyone
Okh bro
Whats the PW ??
PW is production worth, I’ll have to do a video explaining PW & BW (breeding worth). But it’s pretty much the higher the number theoretically the better the cow.
Thanks
15 is a good amount
Jersey 🐂
10-15min is good mate. Good watch why I eat breaky lol
Haha good stuff!
15 minutes is better but depending on what's going on.
How many girls did that old gal leave in your mob?
I’m not to sure to be honest, there’s probably a few 🤷
how many cows are u milking
milking 320 at peak
@@TheOnceADayFarmer I like farmers that treat there animals with respect the dairy farmers we know respect there cows they are organic
THE BAAASS AN NAAAASS BAAAABA BLACK SHEEP AN JENNIFER GOAT
10 to 15 minutes is good no longer than 20 though
👍
10 is good
Crossbreed holstein with jersey cows
They make good milkers with high butterfat. The bull calves fetch better prices as steers.
We farm 90 jerseys on our dairy farm
Go the Jerseys! wouldn't be to many around in Ireland would there?
@@TheOnceADayFarmer the odd few because u get very little for the bull calves
spray the weeds it only become worse and worse and they are seeding
Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too 👍
What is the works🤨🤨🤨
Yea 15 -20 mins b sweat brother
definetly like 15-10 mins
20 mins is fine for me if it's interesting!
She gave 12 calfs but still she is culled, for some ppl it's about money, n thy want the world to b good, nonsense
It’s definitely not all about the money for us, I’f it was we would be milking twice a day to start with. At the end of the day cows have to go to make room for the next generation, she’s had a really good life, it was just her time.
@@TheOnceADayFarmer Ur trying to justify Ur action, she is such a nice cow n u made lot of money on her, who r we to decide when is her time, despite having such a huge farm land u can't feed one cow if it's non productive.
Anyways u tried to justify Ur action, I'm against slaughtering a cow because she is non productive, anyway thanks for taking Ur time to reply.
My uncle own 3 dairy farm in New Zealand , the Government fucks him over why he has 3 million dollars of debt . Any business will try to save money to pay off huge business debt
@@princesmart383 Thats hardly fair. What do you do, hold onto the cow until its legs give out and you have to shoot it on the spot?
@@bobbob-fg5wy seems the issue ls in Ur thought process, that cow gave everything for you during her entire life, do u shoot Ur parents after they get old n rely on you?????, Leaving the thinking to u.
14years old! No wonder why supermarket steak tastes terrible.
She definitely wouldn’t be going Into the supermarket
Cull Cows should be sold for burger
Meat like McDonald's. Should be
Using young steers and heifers
For prime steak.
I think 15 mins getting a bit long, 10-12 good otherwise I find I start skipping the boring bits
Yeah fair enough
20 to 30 minutes is quite common...do you yourself subscribe to other TH-cam farmer channels?
Yeah follow quite a few, cool to see how everyone does it differently 👍
