Just watched RRR in this screen at Chennai. I’ve watched movies in several IMAX, IMAX Laser, XD, Dolby cinema, 4K and Laser screens in India and US. This is the best projection so far. Well done PVR. Now please fix your 3D projection before Avatar 2 release.
Seriously? But for me it seems gimmick. Maybe Worst I can say. First the picture is not completely fill the screen. The top portion not covered. Atleast they can maintain that with adjusting bottom image so that it looks symmetrical both top and bottom have equal spacing. What's the point to planned and built the such a big screen and the picture is not filled in screen completely. And the picture quality is very poor,Not at all sharp and they claimed this as laser projection. This is no way near to laser projection. And finally the sound. How they can claim this as Dolby Atmos without having overhead speakers. For me its like home theatre system. Hope u will see several movies and then decide. I'm commenting this much because its sound and picture quality is not at all match with even normal 4k theatre. And you are comparing with Dolby cinema and Imax laser.
@@ChokkarM 1) I am talking purely about projection. Yes, the sound power is not up to par with sound output from an IMAX, but it’s definitely not bad. In US, there are screens named “Dolby Cinema”, which has its own projection system. I am only comparing the projections systems. And yes, I feel PXL projection is better. 2) yes, the image does not fill the screen. But that’s because movies are distributed in different aspect ratios these days. Many theaters just crop the image to fill the screen. Here they project the full image. And the added height will allow to support IMAX or 35mm aspect ratios better. May be they could have centered the image, but it’s hardly a deal breaker. 3) did you watch a 4k movie? Because the 4k projector is no good if they don’t have a 4k copy. 4) this theater has a dual 4k RGB laser projector and it’s brightness, clarity, contrast and colors for the screen size is the best I’ve seen. I’ve only seen one movie in this screen, but I think that’s enough to judge the potential of the projection system.
Ok I visited again for Beast movie. This time it seems fair as you said. Pictures looks sharp with good contrast. But still in wide shots its not look that sharp and sound also good. They covered the top portion of the screen with cloth so it looks much better than before. My experience with XL screen before all are Hollywood movies. Picture and sound quality is not that good as I said before. Recently also I went for No way home and I felt the same. Definitely they are playing with Volume based on movies. About 3d I don't think they will fix it because I booked no way home in 3D but they played in 2d and said some technical problems. Now almost 2 months over if they want they can fix immediately. I think they will stick with 2D only
I watched #KGF2 at PVR P[XL] Orion mall Bangalore. Movie experience was awesome but I need few clarifications which management couldn't answer 1. Dolby 7.1 was advertised before movie started when they clearly mentioned Dolby Atmos for P[XL]. Management says the advertisement was done by mistake by Delhi team instead of other screen it got advertised as 7.1 instead of Atmos. I couldn't find the speakers in the roof for Atmos like we have in other cinemas 2. Picture quality was 2K instead of 4K, management says #KGF2 picture quality is like that 3. Last dont book your seats in front it will ruin your cinema experience especially dont book lounger which is the front row. Screen size is huge, ticket price is also on the higher side..
Yes they're good at fake claims. In Chennai they advertised Dual laser projectionn system and it's definitely required for such a huge screen but there's single projector only installed. About sound, they can technically claim Dolby Atmos without having overhead speakers but the overhead mixed sounds feels not as good and fuller as one with overhead speakers in other theatres.

First you should know that P[XL] uses 2.35:1 aspect ratio screen which is not really huge unlike IMAX who uses a strict 1.43:1. P[XL] makes use of a single laser DP4K60 projector in the auditorium which is as good as generic IMAX Laser projectors. IMAX Digital (mostly available in all major indian cities) uses Dual DLP5 but only uses one of it for commercials. I recently watched JW4 in P[XL] with Dolby Atmos Surround and was observing almost every single frame and each sides of the screen. The bit to bit details of the projection was excellent. The colours, the contrast ratio for deep black and the dynamic range was so good that i personally cannot tell a difference between the projection of DP4K60 and DLP5.

IMAX runs in Dual projector with greater detailing of image and 12.1 channel audio with gives dynamic sound range and Visuals if shot on IMAX camera will be wide covering the full screen. PXL is a topend film format projected using RGB laser projection with best colors, although PXL has dolby Atmos u may not be able to feel the power of audio to be in the movie story. Budget wise IMAX is way expensive than PXL. Both r unique with best outputs
