No she moved to America when she was 18yrs or so and taught herself American speech patterns... speech and accent skills are part of a actors repertoire. For normal people after 10yrs it becomes very difficult to cultivate a flawless accent, but she isn't a normal person.
She was absolutely phenomenal as Aileen! It’s like she morphed into a completely different human being. And she portrayed her on spot. Such a tragic story. Aileen was a damaged soul who never had a chance at a happy life. She was constantly abused and wronged by society. My heart will always go out to her.
Say, "Charlie's thong" with an accent, and you pretty much got the pronounciation of her name down packed. Also "Char leaves throne" could work too, if anyone remembers Prince Char.
well i admire her very much, i am from south africa, i am so proud that she has helped put SA on the map, our country is NOTHING like it used to be, i was 6 yrs old when apartheid ended and since then i have seen nothing but love for all races of people living here. we have 11 official languages and embraces them all!
Wonder if she can still speak english in her SA accent!! Charlize, ek gaan nou en dan Benoni toe by die McDonald's!! Wanneer kom jy 'n bietjie huis toe en chill met die mense wat jou simply adore!!! Very proud of you skat!! :)
@bornandbreadinSA No she was brought up in South Africa she only went to America when she was 18..she started as a dancer, then modeling and now acting.
@benbezuidenhout she forced herself to lose her accent, she didn't lose it naturally. I have met people who have been overseas for more than 20 years and they still have a South African accent.
Its a dilemma for foreign Hollywood actors, to Americanize the accent or not to. Sometimes its easier to Americanize when doing interviews cuz the audience and host can then focus on your message (interview) instead of objectifying your accent. But it takes talent to switch like that because its very difficult to acquire a flawless accent after age 10yr (she did it after 18yrs!!)
@waheedseria she also donates a lot of charitable money, her time, and energy. She goes back 3/4 times a year despite not having any familial ties left. She cares. stop fussing about an accent!
@r053 where u from?? coz im pretty sure every country was fukd up at one stage... dont just single out SA. plus it is one of very few countries that moved from a government ruled segregated society type regime to democracy without a war breaking out.which considering what the darker people went through including my parents is a miracle really
Seriously... "are you sure?" She says it exactly the same on that vid as she does here on Allen... I know, I am South African and I know what Afrikaans sounds like.
well most african american citizens in the usa have never been african citizens,so with your logic they can not be called african.shes not technically just an american now.she is a citizen of south africa and america.but still a born south african citizen.she still makes us proud
I think it sound more like german... see i'm german and friends of us are netherlands and i can understand parts of what they're saying! If they talk slowly... ;-)
That doesnt make sense; South Africa IS in Africa, thats like saying England isnt in Europe, what you wrote doesnt make sense! I guess you dont know much about geography. And Canada is in North America which is a continent in case you didnt know!
Reading the comments below and I have this to say. She doesn't have an South African accent and I understand that it is because of movies and such. But when she speaks Afrikaans, she has an American Accent and that's irritating.
Hey! Charlize Theron and Candice Swanapoel are both from Southern-Africa! Beautiful ladies! SUPER HOT! I'll have to travel to South Africa to find me a woman like that. (; Candice's accent remains but Charlize's should come out more often.
@xCuppyCakeSqueakersx you never lose your accent all you can do is be a good FAKER like Charlize who has hired good coachs to help her since shes rick n all she can do that!
@waheedseria Not questioning your experiences during the South African apartheid it is quite ironic that you should take up this petty crusade against Theron. your preoccupation with spouting offensive remarks about someone whom you've never met and those groundless critiques of character you make are distinctive of the kind of simplistic, insolent thinking that perpetuates not just racism alone.
@shirusubemonaku Give poor Ellen a break...lol. They have a lot of difficulty saying the R..my brother in law is an American and he just can not "roll" his r. ;-))
Wat makeer jou? Jy weet dat Charlize 'n Suid Afrikaaner is of anders het jy netnou van onder a klip uitgeklim ... en dis nie Afrikaans wat jy praat nie.
@fabulousilver why is it irritating? grow up. she's lived in the us half her life. my first language was Russian, but now after living in the us for most of my life my Russian def has an accent. thats just life and its normal.
@benbezuidenhout wow! omg! i cannot believe it. she must be really really clever then. She speaks like a native speaker. And her American accent is fake. you have to be under 12 year old in order to get the accent naturally. I study English Linguistics.
Her perfomance in "Monster"... One of the best ever!
She really deserved that oscar.
I love South Africa.... I was in Johannesburg and it was amazing! :)
easily one of the most beautiful woman on the planet
By a mile mate!
and she's from my country
How many of you will accept Charlize Theron as captain Marvel if she is in her 20's ?
No she moved to America when she was 18yrs or so and taught herself American speech patterns... speech and accent skills are part of a actors repertoire. For normal people after 10yrs it becomes very difficult to cultivate a flawless accent, but she isn't a normal person.
She gave an amazing performance in North Country.
hands down the sexiest most beautiful woman to ever walk this planet! Sofia Vergara is a close second!
She was absolutely phenomenal as Aileen! It’s like she morphed into a completely different human being. And she portrayed her on spot. Such a tragic story. Aileen was a damaged soul who never had a chance at a happy life. She was constantly abused and wronged by society. My heart will always go out to her.
You don't have to be straight to see she's a beautiful girl.
Haha, at the end Ellen was like did, "Did I say that right?"
Have any of the haters actually seen Monster? SHE is an amazing courageous actress ... and that is all that matters.
Wow Ellen's set has changed so much!!
Say, "Charlie's thong" with an accent, and you pretty much got the pronounciation of her name down packed. Also "Char leaves throne" could work too, if anyone remembers Prince Char.
What is the song playing on her way in???
well i admire her very much, i am from south africa, i am so proud that she has helped put SA on the map, our country is NOTHING like it used to be, i was 6 yrs old when apartheid ended and since then i have seen nothing but love for all races of people living here. we have 11 official languages and embraces them all!
Claudia Berghahn hi I'm south african myself I'm so proud of Charlize
Claudia Berghahn I'm also from SA .....that must have been sad living in apartheid.......I wasn't born that time....I'm only 14
I swear on every Charlize Interview she talks about something with getting drunk! xD shes just so down to earth..
Omg, her legs when she hops up on the couch. What an especially gorgeous, wonderful woman. And what an actress!
Her Laugh
LMFAO!!!!!!!!! Ellen sounds like a Russian when she sais Theron!!! lol!!
Wonder if she can still speak english in her SA accent!! Charlize, ek gaan nou en dan Benoni toe by die McDonald's!! Wanneer kom jy 'n bietjie huis toe en chill met die mense wat jou simply adore!!! Very proud of you skat!! :)
she's beautiful,
but she kinda seemed bored :p
anyway, I think she's the prettiest in Brandon Flower's "Crossfire" video
@bornandbreadinSA No she was brought up in South Africa she only went to America when she was 18..she started as a dancer, then modeling and now acting.
CHARLIZE THERON , YOU ARE MY FAVORITE ACTRESS. I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY THE ACADEMY DIDN’T AWARD YOU DIDN’T AWARD YOU AN OSCAR.
Gosh she pronounces her name in Afrikaan exactly the way we pronounce it in Russia. She is AMAZING!!!
@benbezuidenhout she forced herself to lose her accent, she didn't lose it naturally. I have met people who have been overseas for more than 20 years and they still have a South African accent.
Most beautiful woman on earth
any idea where this truck stop is?
She learned english by watching TV =b. Thats so cute, I think.

This woman's beauty makes no logical sense. Good LORD SHE PERFECTION...
@MrJayseg She learned to speak with an american accent for her movies.
ellen is wetting her pants with excitement.
of course she has
Well yes she is South African, but she became an American citizen this year, so technically that does make her an American now
Is that actually same human being as the girl in Monster?
@MrJayseg she was probably brought up there as i am south african and i live in wales and i have the welsh accent :)
@VampireQueen2007 it means yellow-ish hair.. Just like the color of Charlize's and Ellen's hair.
she gained 30 lbs to do Monster
@waheedseria she also donates a lot of charitable money, her time, and energy. She goes back 3/4 times a year despite not having any familial ties left. She cares. stop fussing about an accent!
I always believed that she is American. Beautiful woman anyway !
