Masterdon is my father in law. We were able to get all of his rhymes and records. His son is also extremely talented. Donn LePrince Martin. He will forever be a big part of our lives and we keep his memory alive for all of his grandchildren to love and know him.
I remember him well. He used to pack " the dome" in harlem when he was out there. It was like a celebrity event!!
Jammed with Masterdon and the d commitee in 1984 in patterson nj......Miss the brother.....Another master of the beatbox undeniably!
R.I.P Masterdon. The Only time I see him was on 144th street park in Harlem U.S.A, him and another DJ was using 3 Turntables to scratch at the same time. It was timeless I tell ya... Timeless.
R.I.P.to my man Master Don,saw him rock many times in the park on 164th st around STIT JHS..He killed the beatbox at Harlem World when I played there for the 1st time in 81' with the Romantic 4..He also played reggae for me on the downstairs level at Demerarra in the early 90s..Incredible talent.
I had this tape long time ago this is pure HIP HOP love this , DJ BRO
I might have been there, because I heard Masterdon many times. I used to DJ for these MCs called the Romantic 4 along with DJ Ace and we battled Don and his crew in the Polo grounds in Rucker Park around 1980, before they made "Funkbox". My DJ name was Mike G back then and that battle got cut short when some dudes from Zulu nation decided to beat down this dude and the cops showed up and told us to pack up both of our systems or they were gonna take it. The only thing that I think I did better than Don back then was needle drop and I had crates and crates of what we called Bambataa beats back then because he seemed like he was the only one who had them. Masterdon doesn't get nearly the credit due for skill, to me he was better that Flash, Theodore and many other top DJs back then. Theodore in an interview admitted that Masterdon was the best Dj he ever saw. He had the scratches, the showmanship and was the first DJ I ever saw scratching using the up and downs. He was the first one to scratch each beat at the beginning of the song Mardi Gras, aka Breaking Bells as we called it back then. He did it way before Jam Master Jay did it on the song Peter Piper. I know this is a long comment, but you had to see him to believe it and audio doesn't do him justice and this brought back memories!!!!
Not long enough. Great comment give us more. I got a picture of you guys from Ace. I believe I have a tape of you guys at Harlem World and Busy Bee and Love Bug are passing the mic back and forth to each other. Do you have any tapes to trade or sell me?
@@troylsmith21 I don't have anything from back then and me and Ace always talk about how we wish we would have documented those days. We didn't take enough pictures and as far as I know, none of us could afford a video camera and if we had one, it probably would have been a matter of time before it got jacked. All I have now is memories, stories to tell and no proof, lol!!!!. I get the feeling that we thought nobody would care about pics and tapes of what we're doing 30+ years later, but boy were we wrong. The Romantic 4 also had beef with a crew/gang that was down with Masterdon named G-force. We were doing a jam at the YMCA on 135th and G-force saw Tony Rome from the Romantic 4 standing outside and they give him a beat down and the other dudes from the Romantic 4 started teasing him about it. Are you from the Bronx or Harlem? Ace told me about you years ago, I was amazed with the tapes he told me to had. Also, to add, we didn't have ant transportation so we would push my speakers and carry my equipment from 140th and Convent, the same building that Kurtis Blow lived in back then to the Polo grounds.
Memories! The dome!
I was out there!!
I see he was rockin the Technics SL B1's. Turn table of choice for those who couldn't afford the 1200's. lol. We use to beat those B1's up and they were durable.
The technic 210's came before the B1.I liked the 210's better because the strobe light was on the other side which wouldn't get in the way when you scratched.
mike gee you have any tapes to trade from back in the days?
PrinceTheSigma do you have any tapes to trade or sell me from back in the days?
Love to the Queen Pebble poo..My brother for every ever. Pretty P...Princesa
Royal Rap 21 you got tapes?
My boy has a cassette of Masterdon and the death committee at Harlem world in 1981. Masterdon wasn't Djing, he was playing a beat box which he had around his shoulders like a guitar. We were there that night and my boy had a box with him and held it up to a speaker. It isn't the most clear sound quality but you can hear how his beat box made Flash's beat box sound like a toy. He's gonna post the video on TH-cam very soon.
Let me know so I can hear it. Do you and your friend have any other tapes to trade me? If so give me a call I have over 300 live tapes. 212 361 9822.
My boy who you might be familiar with named DJ Ace found it a few days ago.
Is "Love Rap" one of the GREATEST F'ing BREAKBEATS ever created? (Next to "Rocket In The Pocket" that is.
Word! I remember you had to play the original "rocket in the pocket" on 45!!

WHOOOAAAAA @ Troy L Smith.....lol.. u got BOTH versions of Funkbox Party on the clip...did u see where Mrs Lillian had reason to go after Bobby Robinson after Don passed...the man took ALL the credit for the song on the re-print ...smh
❤🔥SPEECHLESS … the fliers, the ppl & sounds I grew up on 🥃 RIP MASTER DON🙏🏽… Thx for the fun memories! I just watched Rob Base bring MD out at Webster Hall ‘00… I said that can’t be the same Master Don❣️I used to play Master Don & the Committee day in & out on my Sony boom box!
It’s a treat to know that many of the OG rappers stuff is on TH-cam considering that I lost my tapes of all the rappers fm the original rap attack Super Rocking Mr. Magic & DJ Marley Marl on WHBI & WBLS & KISS! Once Frankie Crocker finally put Magic & Marley on WBLS & rap took off, it became hard to keep up as the culture expanded, then exploded taking over pop! Guess we can say the plan worked 🤩Thank You for uploading this gem
Nice shit troy...!!! 👍👍👍
RIP BOO SKI ✨🤲🏽✨
Damn I didn't know Booski passed.
Let it be known that Keith kc and master don made up the hook .let me hear you un na na .and not master p.when master don played the beat box.that was they intro. Uh na na .facts
Absolutely right. Warren do you have any tapes to trade from back then? Get at me if so. 212 361 9822.

Masterdon and nem were the Gangsters of this shht .
Na I'm a old I just remember when they started out.i used to be with Keith kc and master don brother Johnny. 7ave gang we was the young gangsters. Didn't no rap was going to take off like it did.it was about dancing and getting girls ,money. Don had a vision didn't want the gangster life. Kc rolled with him he didn't have the stomach for the thug life even though he hung with them .he was kool as fuck and he like to rap.
Damn. I Remember that Don seemed like a real humble, down to earth dude. I didn't know him but you could just tell, but he did hang out with some thugs!! Lol
You from four seven?

I was there
Do you have any tapes and memories that YOU want to share with the public?
no offense. they were definitely good however they came too late. if it could have only been 3 or 4 years earlier.
meaning you had Flash who was incredible on the beat box as was gayatta(get it) Jazzy Jay was Top Draw on the Beat and or Funk Box and it was earlier when Don gained attention I believe other world class DJS were done with it
You hit the nail right on the head. They where big in Harlem and Don was sick on the turntables!
To late they started in the 70s.
Don was rocking the beat box in the 70s homie
@@warrenkelly7071 A lot people don't know that. He was way better than flash on the turntables and the beat box in my opinion.
They had good stuff but way too much singing.
