The concrete structure in the embankment was a unloading point for coal trucks. Blidworh also had a second line into to the pit from the mansfield to southwell line, some of a deep cutting and a wall from the bridge under southwell road is still there. Loving the videos as I have lived in Rainworth all my life.
Blimey mate, cycling/talking to camera/flying a drone, is there no end to your talents!!! That was a nice spin through history along some very well surfaced cycle tracks, once again Nottinghamshire makes Lincolnshire look poor in comparison, you picked a lovely day for it to. The Sherwood Pines piece at the start brought back some lovely memories of riding through the site with my Son back in 2007, thanks.
It made a nice change didn't it? It was a sod making sure I had it all in the correct order. Bike cam, my cam, drone and phone 🤣 I also filmed the return journey in real-time. I may upload it... I didn't see a sole in Sherwood Pines
@@TrekkingExploration It's the same around here, no-one around anywhere. My Son Kieran and I took the dog out for a stroll this afternoon, we walked for about an hour and didn't see a single person or car at all. It's great for the whole of nature, the animals must be wondering what the hell is going on with all this silence. When I was out taking that photo of Venus the other night I heard some rustling in the bushes, then out came a hedgehog just doing his thing and loving the quiet!!
Another great vlog Ant very much appreciated. What a set up of all those branch lines I bet you are glad you chose the bike as it seemed a large area to cover. Please keep up the great work you do for all your followers.
Thanks very much John. I can't currently go far due to the lockdown, however there is plenty to see locally as well as a few places left i already visited earlier this year :)
Yes really enjoyed this one, and its nice you take the time to find out about all these old coal mines in Nottinghamshire, before they are totally gone and forgotten about .
The old railways i explored were......Chatteris to March, Chatteris to Somersham, St Ives to Histon, Ramsey North to Holme, Hunstanton to Heacham, Coldham to Wisbech, Wansford to Peterborough, Kings Lynn to Middleton Towers, Whitemoor Yard, Toton Yard, Wells Next the Sea Quay Line, Wisbech to Upwell, Wisbech Dock Branch, Great Yarmouth Quay line, Lowestoft Quay line, Weymouth Quay line, the full length of the Blackpool Tramway, Wisbech North to Tydd, the closed Skegness minature railway, Kings Lynn docks and branches, and probably quite a few more......love your colliery videos.....
As i have mentioned before Ant, i remember doing a bit of motocross on the back of the old Rufford site back in 2011-12 when there was an organised track on there. You do not appreciate how vast that site is. I did not realise i was on the old colliery site until i saw the old weighbridge concrete structure and old demolished pit buildings. I used to come in from the Rainworth Bypass end. Thanks for a great video once again.
I found out there are still rails in this area since I put this together. I'm wondering If they are over on the colliery side? I'll probably revisit one afternoon this week coming. It is absolutely huge. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
@@TrekkingExploration yeah had a lovely morning up there! Picked up the route at the Dog and Duck in Kings Clipstone and followed it down to Blidworth :) I had quite a nose about at the Rufford site and ended up seeing a lot of the same sights as you 👍 I've also done the Cotgrave branch line route and been to see the entrance to the Mapperley tunnel thanks to your videos! Thanks so much it's been great to do these local routes through lockdown. Cheers 🍻
@@DavidJones-xi9cv I redid the Rufford Branch a couple of weeks ago, managed to get into the colliery site. I couldn't last year. Lot's of rails Left Behind
@@TrekkingExploration Ah right I think I just saw the stocking site, I don't really know the area that well, but really enjoyed seeing the railway remains, I did see the rails at Cotgrave 👌 Not sure I have the bottle to do that cliff edge walk you did in the Peak district 😬😬 but it's on the potential list currently. Take care boss I will keep watching with interest :)
Hi Ant. A lovely and enjoyable bike ride. Nice to a be able to come along with you 👍. The mile posts looked incredible, and with paint on still, could you ask for more? (other than visible numbers! 😉). I'm slightly puzzled about the concrete shaft, not a common object I've seen before. Stay safe mate, GWR
good combination of drone flying and cycling Ant gave it a new twist mate ...really enjoyed this ... keep up the great work mate....Stay Safe Frank & Lee...
I think the first piece of concrete was loading pad from stocking site, and second maybe a weighbridge for wagons? Track was still down here till 2008 as I walked it, track was there from bypass to clipstone triangle. The photo in the middle of vid is actually the rufford to mansfield line taken facing rainworth as you can see pit road on left. As ever, excellent content.
This is the most difficult one for finding photos of it was unbelievable. I was never 100% sure the picture was the exact same location but it was the only one I could get 🤣 Most un photographed line I've come across so far. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
@@TrekkingExploration yes, I don't remember seeing any this side. If you search merry go round trains on here Ant there's a1979 coal board film, I'm 99 percent sure the colliery featured halfway in that the train loads at is Bilsthorpe....

Morning Darren. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching. I appear to have forgotten to list the music in the description. I'll pop them on later today 🙂
Thanks as always.. I approve of the bike ! Just a question, If you had gone left to Bilsthorpe and towards Wellow I see on g maps a small cutting. Do you know if there is a tunnel towards Ollerton. Can't make out on my cheap phone and dodgy eyes. Cheers.
Very, very enjoyable, thanks for bringing the countryside to our screens.

Think the concrete shaft at the end was a vent to let out any gases such as methane that might form in the slag heap
I did thinking that but I'd never seen one before so wasn't sure. Thanks for clearing that up 👍🙂
I think what you found on the slag heap was a vent to vent off any gases which would build in the slag heap.

Hello glad you enjoyed it. The tunnel you're thinking of may be Boughton Brake Tunnel on the Bevercotes Colliery Branch?
No, not Boughton. Looked on OS map, me just another old duffer got it wrong 😵
It could be the mid notts railway between Farnsfield and Ollerton via Bilsthorpe. I think that's what it's called
