Self-reflection is a good thing but for Madam Chen her calculations aren't adding up. For some unexplained reason when she adds 2 + 2 she's getting 8 instead of 4. She talks about not knowing why in Niao Naio's eyes she's more terrible than Ling Buyi...afterwards she tries to lump her husband in with her hateful actions towards their daughter. She thinks Niao Niao is going against them because they abandoned her when she was a newborn....when in fact she's numb to her mother's heartless words/deeds. It's her own fault for fracturing her relationship with her daughter. It's her fault for making Niao Niao feel as though she's not good enough. Now she's facing the consequences of her actions....and rightfully so. I love how Niao Niao instinctively defends Buyi when Lady He badmouths him. Buyi is a lucky man to have Shiyi defending him.

I don’t understand how could niao niao’s parents be THAT ignorant of their daughter’s character? like the mom was so upset believing her daughter rather chose to sacrifice her happiness just to spite and go against her bcs she deemed her worthless publicly, when in fact niao niao already explained that she accepted LBY’s proposal as a way to protect them when they posed to retire from their position since they set to decline the proposal, and bcs if they were to actually giving up their job, their duty, the reason they abandoned her for 15 years and deeply wounded her, just to go against the emperor’s decree for her sake now, then she would feel like she’s truly a joke..
