I grew up in the city, never pulled a trailer or even drove a pickup. I knew I wanted to do something “blue collar” when I discharged, so while in the military I started playing Farming Simulator with joysticks set up for Cat controls to learn machines. Got a USB 18 speed shifter for Truck Simulator to learn shifting. Thanks to those video games, I now have my CDL and operate skids/loaders/excavators.

Great follow up vid. I remember the one when it was him and his sister. Sounds like the two of them have it dialed in - as said, he's the front half of the business and she's got the back half covered. Teamwork.

Garrett is so much wise beyond his 21 years. Lots of lessons in this video not just how to run a successful company but just BE successful in life. Run towards your problems and not run from them - there's people twice his age or older who still cannot grasp this. Running from your problems only makes things worse. Yes, definitely do a part 2 with his sister and get her input as well. This was another excellent video, Stan! Catch you on the next one...

I've had so many bosses that freak out when new employees break stuff or show up 2 minutes late. More than half of them have told me I should never own my own business. I always just thought they said that because they didn't want competition. He seems a lot more mature than any of my bosses ever were.

Hey hey stan, sorry for commenting so late, this young man really has a. Lot of greatness going for him, he has such sprawling business. So glad for him, he truly made the American dream, so stan, how much snow did you get, have you been busy on your lots. I am hearing maybe a wicked snowstorm from Friday night into Saturday. Who knows right, Mother Nature is doing her thang. Oh i got some more good news Stan, i got the iPhone 13 pro max, and i can report from my time of using it for about a day, its been nothing but quality and performance, it is fast and very powerful, i can’t wait to try it out with giving estimates by maping out my lawns so i can get the right price for them all, it is gonna be nice to use those technology to my advantage, and use LMN software as well. 2022 is gonna be a great season, and i wish everyone else has a. Wonderful season as well. God bless and go get em, your pal Alexander costa

I got to get away from the freezing cold and go to a cool convention in Vegas for a few days, stay tuned for more on that coming soon! Also that new iphone technology sounds both fricken awesome and quite possibly over my head lol, but I'd love to hear more about how it works for you once you get it goin. Stay safe and warm out there pal, & God Bless! 👍

I'm not a dirt guy but I was looking to get into it a couple of years ago. When I was doing my research I twice came across an idea about this business that I don't hear very much, especially in smaller outfits like this. Instead of calculating materials and hours, basing their bids on cubic yard moved period. Basically, the bid calculated how much material had to be moved. If you had to move the same material twice or three times for logistic's sake, then you multiplied that amount the 2 or 3 times. Anytime you had to move it, that was calculated in. IF there was the possibility of other issues, like hitting bedrock or major utilities, that was added to the bid at a cost-plus basis. This was in a recent book on the excavation business and one of the most successful homegrown dirt moving businesses around here used this approach. When I asked the owner why he did this, he said it was a more accurate consistent way to bid rather than "guessing" on hours. He said it only took a few jobs to get an accurate cost per cubic yard for his calculations and over time he kept updating that calculation and it never let him down. This particular company was based out of his home for twenty years, but now has its own shop with full-time mechanic(s) and only runs paid for Caterpillar equipment. No debt, he must be doing something right.
