Great skit and review. This series has always interested me, despite having only played Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. Love the Japanese aesthetic.

Nice review(s)! Didn't realise initially that this was going to include the _Tower of Fate_ game too. 👍
_Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon: EVERY BUDDY_ is another interesting MD entry on Switch, do try it if you haven't already. 🙂

The entire Mystrery Dungeon series is such an underrated and overlooked series in the west. Most people over here just know of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, but the broader series consists of almost 30 games by now!! It started as a Dragon Quest spin off, with Toneko's mystery dungeon all the way back in 1993, with the first Shiren game being the second game in the series. Comparing Mystery dungeon to Warriors is honestly quite a good comparison with how often they are used as spin offs for other series. In total the series consists of 10ish Shiren games, 6ish Pokemon games, 4 Dragon Quest games, 3 Chocobo games, 2 Etrian Odyssey games, and 2 games from other series.
Unfortunatly because of its niche status in the west, almost half of the Mystery Dungeon series have never been officially localiced, with most of them not even having fan translations yet. So if someone would want to play trough the entire series, it wouldn't even be possible yet... The Shiren games are by far the worst here
Shiren 1 remaster on the DS,
    Shiren 3 on Wii,
    Shiren 5,
    and Shiren 6
are the only games to get official western releases. And the only game in the series to have a fan translation is Shiren 2 on N64.
    This means that all of:
    Shiren GB
    Shiren GB2
Shiren Gaiden (fun fact, Asuka, one of the companions in Shiren 6 is the main character of this one)
    Shiren GB 2 Remake
    and Shiren 4
are not playable at all if you can't read japanese.
It was so sad watching the reveal trailer for Shiren 6 where they showcased the history of the series, and watching as over half of the games shown has never been releaased playable in English :((
Anyways, great video, always love seeing more people taking an interrest in the greater Mystery Dungeon series! The only other game on the Switch is Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon Every Buddy, which is a remaster the Wii game Chocobo's Dungeon. its the only game in the "series" with no involvement from Chunsoft, which somewhat shows... its mechanics feel somewhat off from the rest of the series, and its item variety and relience on grinding is honestly not great. While i only played the original Wii game, its not one of my favorites unfortunatly.
If i were to reccommend another mystery dungeon game i'd say you should give the Shiren 1 remaster on DS a try, Its honestly an amazing game with a great atmosfare and its nice to see where the series started at. If you own either a DS or a 3DS the game isn't even that expensive, going for around 25$ on eBay, or you can of course emulate it.

Oh nice, thanks for the detailed info and glad you enjoyed the vid. I'd heard Chunsoft hadn't worked on Chocobo, that's too bad it doesn't live up to the rest of the series. It is too bad that most of the series hasn't been localized, agreed. And I'll check out Shiren on DS as well, sounds like a good one.

      > And the only game in the series to have a fan translation is Shiren 2 on N64.
The Super Famicom release of Shiren 1 got an unofficial translation. Shiren 3 PSP got a janky unofficial translation. Shiren 4 PSP got an unofficial translation.
      > The only other game on the Switch is Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon Every Buddy,
Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer 5: The Tower of Fortune and the Rice of Fate, Pokémon Mystery Dugeon: Rescue Team DX.
      > the series consists of 10ish Shiren games
There's more than 10 games. Not counting remakes and remasters, re-releases, etc. There's still the GBA spinoff, the Pachinko machine, the Mahjong game, and many different cell phone titles and a couple of flash games.

@@HaxAras 1. Shiren 4 is not a super famicom game, if you meant Shiren 1, then yeah there is a fan translation for that game, however there isn't really much of a point to playing that when the DS remake is already officially in english. And for Shiren 3, why play a janky fan translation of a PSP game, when the original Wii version is already in English. Oh, and Shiren 4 seems to have gotten its fan translation earlier this year, i didn't know, thanks for pointing that out.
      2. I know, but i was spesifically pointing out Mystery Dungeon games on switch that Onioncreature hadn't already played, he reviewed both Shiren 6 and Shiren 5 in this very video, and he also mentioned that he is a huge PMD fan, so of course he has already played Rescue Team DX, why would i bring those games up?

@@thohillesland Yeah, I meant to type Shiren 1. I got mixed up thinking about the Shiren 4 patch as well and typed that instead.
Various things were changed between the Super Famicom original and the DS remake. Some people prefer to play the original. And you didn't say "the only one to receive an unofficial translation worth playing", you said the only one to receive a translation is Shiren 2, with is several different kinds of incorrect.
