    The Birth Of JPL
    In 1943, seeing the true value of the GALCIT Rocket Project, the military took over operations and changed the name to “Jet Propulsion Laboratory.” Despite the fact that they were not researching jet engines, the concept of rockets still contained a certain stigma, so the alternative name was selected and remains to this day.
    Whilst under military control, JPL developed several weapon deployment systems based on the liquid and solid fuel technology devised by Parsons and his group, one of which was the WAC Corporal sounding rocket. Once WWII had ended, the military attached one of these to the top of a V-2 rocket and achieved an altitude of more than 70 kilometers, becoming the first American rocket ever to exit the Earth’s atmosphere.
    Parsons died in a mysterious explosion in 1952, aged just 37. He was mixing chemicals in his workshop, when two loud explosions were reported. He survived for some time, dying of his injuries hours later. Various theories have surrounded his death, ranging from assassination and industrial espionage to some sort of magical experiment gone wrong. It is most likely that Parsons just got careless, and mixed a little too much of one powder into another solution.
    The very same day, upon hearing of the death of her son, Parson’s mother, Ruth, took her own life with a deliberate overdose of Nembutal.
    Upon searching the Parsons’ residence, police investigator Donald Harding and George Santmyer, the latter a close friend of Parsons, discovered a box which contained a film showing Parsons and his mother Ruth having sex. Was this was the final nail in the coffin of Parsons’ historical reputation?
    In any case, the works of Parsons were systematically expunged from the academic papers stored at Cal Tech. At first, he became a footnote in the technical papers, and as time progressed, the footnotes disappeared also.
    One thing is for sure…there is sometimes a fine line between insanity and genius, and Parsons and his crew walked that line daily.
    The conservative academic community at the time may have been quick to disassociate themselves from him, but even Werner Von Braun referred to Parsons as the “true father of the American space race”…and who are we to argue with Von Braun?

The Moon is supposed to be LOADED with Helium-3 which could power Earth for 10,000 years, yet we don't go get it. But they allegedly used computers THOUSANDS of times less powerful than your smartphone to get there and had the ability to block radiation then that we can't block now. Wake up! You all know the government lies. Why would they lie about everything else and not that? From. The. Horses. Mouth. Interesting. When NASA made the astronaut request, i assume NASA warn the candidates about the risks and then i guess they made a contract.
    The problem here is, if you follow all the machinery progress in 8-10 years, including the AGC , you will see that time and money budget were increased exponentially. So i think, that the contracts CAN NOT REMAIN THE SAME. They should have change. Specially to support the heavy pressure the astronauts will hold until they die. Being famous for 15 minutes is easy.

      @Chuck Mos 12000 applicants is pretty good for a job that's gonna shortlist people in single digits. Especially when the eligibility standards are so high.

    • @goodbot8526
      @goodbot8526 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Chuck Mos You are simply comparing the 12000 applicants to the whole population of graduates. That's a blunder. Why should one occupation (astronaut) be so disproportionately high in applicants? Applications should always be proportionate to the job demand. Ofcourse, considering the limited demand, 12000 is a huge applicant base.
      Don't compare it to computer engineering, etc where the jobs are huge in number.

    • @goodbot8526
      @goodbot8526 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Chuck Mos You still aren't even touching the basic concept of demand and supply. IF there were 10,000 astronaut jobs, the educational/industrial ecosystem would churn out so much more applicants.

    Can anyone guess how Buzz got his nickname? Clue , alcohol 🍺

    • @samsignorelli
      @samsignorelli 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, it was because his sister, Fay, only a year and a half older than Buzz -- had trouble saying "brother" and pronounced it "buzzer." The nickname was shortened to "Buzz," which stuck. He made it his LEGAL name in 1988 (his birth name was Edwin).

    They were not paid much for meeting Kennedy's challenge before the end of the decade. They were not paid much for being away from their families for so long to meet Kennedy's challenge. They were not paid much for riding a 3000 ton bomb to meet Kennedy's challenge. God Bless America...you really look after your own...

      Nicholas Brewer ...Neil Armstrong was in hiding until his dead, the only time he was flying the Luna module, it exploded, he ejected and barely escaped dead, it was a test flight, they never tried again. If they could not success on earth, how the hell they could success on the Moon.
