I love that the big cinematic production values ONLY come out for the weird coffee devices I would never buy, it keeps the channel from feeling gimmicky too often but is also such a smart way to grab viewers for what would probably be the least-viewed content on the channel otherwise, since these products arguably have the smallest target demographics.

I've got one of these and while it's great fun, I just can't use it as intended: the truth is, when loaded and ready to go it makes my bedroom smell of coffee. And that creates such a strong "It's time to get up!" sense impulse that I just can't go to sleep. Also the milk fridge is a smidge too noisy for a bedroom gadget, for me.
What I end up using it for is making coffee after I wake up when I'm having a Sunday lie-in. If you're doing that you can keep the coffee in a sealed container until you need it (so it doesn't make the room smell like a café). That way I can have a half decent coffee in bed without tipping off the kids that we're awake.
This makes it a very expensive and niche solution to a problem I basically had to invent. So, no different from the rest of my coffee gear, really.

It’s really interesting and cool to see how far it’s come and it’s changed a bit. The heating method seems different but looks wise it’s still kept the same aesthetic.
But you essentially said all the things I might have guessed. Expensive for what it is and not quite sure who it’s aimed at and coffee could be better. We all even made the teasmaid comparison 7 years ago at uni.

(directors commentary viewer) I really enjoy ginger shots but that one looked very silty. Like lots of it had settled to the bottom, I make my own and strain them. If it's the flavour you didn't like I can't help you I enjoy the kick 😅

The inner thespian has finally reveled himself and we love it.
Regarding the machine its function could be served by a $15 coffee machine
-The asthetics and brewing mechanics are the only appeal I can see in it.

Agreed. Just put a regular machine near your alarm clock.

@@yishunbrew or, you know, there are way cheaper machines with a clock and timer that will start grinding at the preset time....must be hell to wake up to that but at least the coffee is sub-par, too.

I did back this on Kickstarter, and mostly use it to make tea, rather than coffee - I definitely agree with James here, the coffee it makes is pretty unremarkable.
Waking up to a little tea, though, is quite nice :)

These full cinematic Videos are so phenomenal! They tell a fun story, the music is fitting, a weird coffee person tells tales about a weird coffee produkt: What's not to love about this!?

I did buy this as one of the original Kickstarter’s. Similarly, I had low expectations in terms of coffee, which I bought for my love of the design. It is beautiful.

This is a masterpiece. A Gem. A true highlight in video production! All the little details, the affection to every second of perfection. This is *much more* than just a review, it is a cinematic masterpiece. Congratulations James, in a series of well-made and thought-trough videos you have reached yet another peak. A true pleasure to watch, thank you! I'm completely stunned after watching this!

Yeah I really loved the directors commentary here, its fascinating hearing a peak behind the curtain! Hope he gets a chance to do more, especially for the Brad Pitt coffee commercial or the is coffee good for you one.
