And it's part of FAMILY history. I wonder how his Dad would feel about that. I'd tell my daughter to have a cheaper wedding before I would part with a family heirloom like that.
It’s for his daughter; I get it. From the outside looking in, it seems insane to part with a piece of your family history, but from his perspective it’s going towards his family’s future. I’m certain his father would’ve felt the same way, I can imagine him saying: “That old map from that god awful island??? SELL IT FOR AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!!! You make sure my granddaughter has the best wedding she could dream of!!!!” That being said however, $2,300 is peanuts compared to the overall cost of even an average wedding.
+rucotomo I'm right in the middle of watching that episode right now!! That's what brought me here. Anybody that takes something like that to a pawn shop is asking for it though
That expert appears on the show quite often, but he never gives a value on items. He's a curator at a museum so he believes all historical artifacts and documents are priceless and refuses to value them. The pawn shop people normally go to him just to make sure the item is authentic since that guy's a walking encyclopedia.
It's times like these that make me quote Indiana Jones: That belongs in a museum! Seriously, I like Pawn Stars, but when it comes to these extremely historical items like these battle plans, I just shake my head. Or put it this way, whenever that curator is called in, I can just picture him crying inside for not getting said item.
I really thought they were talking about 35 THOUSAND.For a rare way before starting of the war plans,i would think about that number.Anyway thats how you do bussiness.You offer 15-20% u go up to 35-40% of the amount asked and hope to sell if for the price the owner asked,and if not go down to max 60-65% of that price and still make a buck.THATS HOW YOU BUY AND SELL ANYTHING.
*Rick*hey what ya got here today? *Customer*i got the gun that Abraham Lincoln was assassinated with *Rick* I have a buddy who's an expert on the guns Abraham Lincoln was assassinated with *Customer* Hey the guy said it worth around 5 million dollars so how bout 5 million *Rick*Hmmmph maybe in a auction yeah ...... yeah know what ill given you 20 bucks *Customer* DEAL!
I didn't know this episode was so old, but wow did they mess up. They said there was 5 marines and one navy coxswain. It was a corpsman. Ridiculous mess up.
No he didn't. Rick offered him $2,300, guy accepted the offer and was paid in cash. No one was ripped off. If he accepted the $2,300 and Rick only paid him $2,000, then yes, you would be correct in saying he was ripped off.
I would think a museum would pay through the nose for these plans, that, or the US Government would say it was their property and hand them over. Hmmm.
Everyone is a jerk there but Chumley, I called and Rick answered and I asked about the Patriots ring and he hung up, I called back and he says "Stop calling you've already called 4 times" I only called once :(
I dissagree, because if someone is going to buy the maps then he is willing to give money for it, wich means he thinks that's valuable so there's a good chance he will take good care of it...:)
@goodvibesallround so what? I don't care about him or his situation. people are a renewable resource, historical artifacts are precious pieces of humanity that need to be preserved and cherished.
In the episode, the old guy does ask. However, Mark-Hall Patton (the curator) says "well, you know I won't give you a price". And then the old guy says "yeah but how rare are they?" and then Hall-Patton goes on to say what he says at 1:46
This is why you sell all your shit spend all your cash then move in with your kids after you have blown all your money for the last 3 years of your life
I know right, let's see 'em stay married the next 30+ years. It's happened all too much in some family members of mine. They'd marry, then a year or two....or sometimes less, divorce time. If i was that guy, i'd kept that stuff, but i don't know, maybe he needed the money real bad. That's why we play the lottery...helloo? lol
@pastorjeff30 Only as proud as any father would be to be able to provide something for his child on their wedding. How proud can you be to criticize someone whom you do not know and go about the business of being a layman on youtube?
why do you care, they're just maps. i'll bet you that the guy's dad would've sold those in a heartbeat for 23. That's like saying why didn't you take the money you spent on your stupid paintball gun and donate it to charity?
i would never sell something like this, this is part of history something that you can hang up on your wall. no one in hell would i ever sell these.
And it's part of FAMILY history. I wonder how his Dad would feel about that. I'd tell my daughter to have a cheaper wedding before I would part with a family heirloom like that.
No need to value history that much. What's in the past stays in the past. Better to have the sweet cash you can abuse from it instead.
Especially his dads legacy man, this is an awesome piece of history for the family! But this bozo decides to sell it!!!
Some people actually need money

Seller: I have Kurt Kobain's guitar
Rick: Best I can do is have Mark say "Welcome To Jurassic Park"
2300? i tought it was atleast 23k
I bet that guy's veteran buddys are from the revolutionary war.
There are so many times I watch this show and turn into Indiana Jones. "It SHOULD be in a MUSEUM!!!"
I always think of that !
i have these same maps from my grandfather. he was a landing craft driver during the invasion.
I love the old man he's so funny lol.
Rick said on the "Crossing Chum" episode that he sold one of the maps for $20,000!!!
+rucotomo I'm right in the middle of watching that episode right now!! That's what brought me here. Anybody that takes something like that to a pawn shop is asking for it though
episode in question for those coming back 3 years later - www.dailymotion.com/video/x5y211b

RIP old man.
His father prob turned in his grave for selling that!
@Caleb Cataldo yeah
It was for a good cause though.
We miss u old man.

Maybe learn how to spell " business" before telling people how to conduct it
Old man fought on the other side in iwojima
Really???
@@amrit4564 NO
Priceless
Those belong in a museum not a pawn shop.
He could have loaned it out to a military museum and gotten money for it.
Finally oldman got something of his age
These guys are CONNECTORS.. They will make sure it gets into the home, or museum, of someone who is a collector.. for the right price ;)
This belongs in a museum
WOW! INCREDIBLE piece that guy had
It would have been rad if the historian had flash-backs of the battle while he was talking.
Lmao
the best one
thank you
That dude got them for free from his dad. Whoever buys them is going to treasure them way more then the seller ever did.

Riley all that time typing for less than 50 likes. Sad.
Old man would have appreciated them
Mr Brown and I got along famously
My dad faught in modern warfare 2...
My dad went into Green Beach at Iwo . Navy USS Hocking amphibious assault UDT-1
No way would I ever sell something like that
I would imagine something that is historically important like these maps should be worth at least double what Rick paid for them.
I didn't know this episode was so old, but wow did they mess up. They said there was 5 marines and one navy coxswain. It was a corpsman. Ridiculous mess up.
Two Jim battle operative plans. Can't undervalue that.
Want to hear something cool? I'm the skinny dude in the blue shirt in the background!
I would NEVER sell this

I thought he was joking when he said 23 ...hundred 💀💀😂 thought they were talking thousands
i remember watching a episode that rick mentioned that he sold this for 20k. lol come on rick
Agreed.I would ...
they get there hands on some sick shit

A dollar that was disrespectful
Wait was that 2300 or 23,000?
let me call me friend santa..
I would have kept them.
In another ep, Corey said that they got "all the money on the world" for these - anyone know how much?
0:15 and you’re gonna sell them 🤦🏻
I dissagree, because if someone is going to buy the maps then he is willing to give money for it, wich means he thinks that's valuable so there's a good chance he will take good care of it...:)
The daughter is now divorced.
TF , it’s history man. If I would be an American I would offer him $10k. Man it’s so frustrating seeing it gone for 2.2k
Bruh if i was selling this (I never would) but if i just so happened to i would try a museum and then a pawn shop if I didn't like the offer
It resold for 20Gs
@goodvibesallround
so what?
I don't care about him or his situation.
people are a renewable resource, historical artifacts are precious pieces of humanity that need to be preserved and cherished.
tht guy should have asked the expert the documents value like others

who here in 2021?
Now I have No doubt that Americans Love Their Country So Much... But Less Than Money..
@tanguman2 probably puts them on loan to a museum while he tries to sell them
Which episode is this one?
S2E23 just watched it and I was telling at the tv.
@Zekkandgrant13 that made me roar
@MELLSBAD
...? if I may ask, what angered you so much today?
@zenar154 imagine how many calls they get a day only about that ring.
Got to look from their perspective.
because money?
2400$ per second ?
old man faught in a war?
It could be peanuts...
Who the fuck would spend $2300 on a paintball gun.
@jolderon2 AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAAH
@EdMajinLee199999
...and? so what? I don't care about his issues and problems, I care for the safety of that historical document.
How old is that shop....I think I bought a bass guitar there about 18 years ago.....I thought they were dicks at the time....lol
