      That’s what I’m saying 😂 how can he judge a truck that hasn’t even been released? They haven’t mentioned much other then specs and features interior and exterior but we’ll truly know when it’s put to the test. Remember the same thing happened with the Ram rebel TRX, all the rumors surfaced but a lot of those rumors Ram themselves confirmed and approved them to be true that it would have 500+ HP people were saying 525hp and others said 575hp and we got to see the truth but this truck is a total surprise and you can’t judge it and not only that Cummins engines naturally just tow more than these gas engines and that’s a fact. I’ve never seen these heavy machinery machines function with gas and I know some do I just haven’t seen but it just shows diesel engines are far more reliable, powerful and economical because I bet you my truck a power wagon can’t get the same mpg as a rebel Cummins in a towing test and that’s facts the 6.7 inline 6 Cummins engine is just too good at doing what it does that’s why it’s the most popular because of its performance and fuel economy.

      I put in my own comment, but I'll mention it here to pony off your true statement. The Cummins doesn't come with the winch, the 6.4L does, so the image used in the first 10 seconds of the video is the 6.4L that can tow 16,870. The engine on the Cummins is heavier, thus the lower tow rating. Simply the difference of the engine weight.

      Say he hauls a 9K toy hauler and after adding stuff he’s at 10,000 pounds. It’s reasonable to suspect a 10% tongue weight so that’s 1000 of the 1400 pounds of payload. Factor in people and luggage and it’s easy to go over.

    Yeah, I noticed that right away too. I actually had to read the spec sheet 3 or 4 times because I thought that I was not understanding what it said. You’re right, Ford did not make that mistake with the Tremor, but the bigger payload and towing capacity is why it can’t compete with the Power Wagon. This is comparing apples and oranges. You can have a truck that’s awesome off-road and has limited towing, or you can have truck that can tow heavy loads that will be at best a mediocre off road. Like you said, it all depends your own needs for a truck. It seems that the Rebel will not be all that great in either scenario.

    • @GettysGarage
      @GettysGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I guess that's kind of my point this truck like you mentioned isn't the master of anything. I would of much rather they focused on maintaining towing and payload while adding a more advanced off-road package with the locker and better tires but not done anything to the suspension other then off-road shocks. yes the ride will be horrible off-road but realistically most people are not taking this truck on serious off-road journeys and I feel more people would use the towing capacity anyways.
      either way it will still be a cool truck just not what I was expecting.

    I’m actually glad to hear this as I was under the assumption the Rebel had the same spring rating as a regular 2500.. If the payload is reduced that much then it would mean the spring rating is dramatically reduced giving it a much better ride!.. As far as the payload/towing goes, this is nothing a set of airbags won’t fix as the powertrain is the same as the higher rated models!. Funny how so many people get all hung up on that little sticker… Maybe it places like Commiefornia you might have to worry about it, but the majority of us have zero worries over a sticker…

    Its not a mistake, ford is the one who had to recently lower their towing capacitg. Also the ford tremor failed the TFL toaster while towing, and the new heavier unproven SST Ram not only did better they didn't have to turn the AC off. The newer Rams towing capacity is often re-calibrated based on breaking ability and handling. Not necessarily always on the pulling power. The 2500 Cummins is not the same engine as the 1 tons. They must put themselves in a safe zone. Just for the record countless people overtow their Rams, and Ram knows this. So they need to set guidelines accordingly for self preservation. Also the 6.4 hemi might just be the greatest naturally aspirated engine ever. The Ford 7.3 has far more catastrophic failures.

    Problem is the Cummins weights almost 900lbs more then the hemi. The GVW for a 2500 ram is 10,000 lbs either way. 2500 rams suck for payload/towing when you configure with a Cummins. If you want a Cummins go to the 3500 or it's a waste of $10,000 bucks as an option. Fords got a similar issue.

    when we bought our 1500, we already knew all about towing capacity and payload capacity. we also knew that virtually all trucks run out of payload capacity long before reaching their towing capacity especially the well appointed four door models that are so common these days. the towing capacities are more realistic for barebones two door models that are much lighter. our ram 1500 weighs 6000lb empty and has a payload capacity of around 1400 lbs. those numbers are typical for ford and gm too for a well equipped 4 door truck in the 1/2 ton class

    A 2023 2500 tradesmen 4x4 6.7 cummins 68rfe and 3.73 towes damm near 20000 pounds its payload is lower than the 6.4 because the cummins weighs 1000 lbs more. The 6.4 with 4.10gears has a higher paylaod since it is lighter but less towing capability since it has half the cummins torque. The cummins weight and torque give it the advantage towing big time, while the 6.4 you can throw more cargo in the truck.

    I'm betting that those numbers are on the safe side so you can push the max towing amount a little bit. It could be that the 2500 rebel with the cummings is just supposed to be more an offroad truck and not so much a towing beast. You want more towing power to get a 2500 with the offroad package. I don't think it's possible to have a Jeep Rubicon that can haul 4000 lbs or tow 20000 lbs. Yes you can get a Ram 2500 and upgrade suspension, add air bags, get a Cummins, front lockers, a winch, etc. It will end up weighing too much for practical off road use. If you want both, you're going to have to buy both and a trailer to haul the Jeep. Or buy a Unimog, but I hope you're not in a hurry to get where you're going.

  • @benjaminlanning8375
    @benjaminlanning8375 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    First off I really do like your videos but I am a little shocked that you’re this “shocked” at how this package and numbers come out. I always wanted a power wagon but never could bring myself to get one because the legal payload and towing capacity are so so low. You buy a 2500 series truck and a 1500 series can legally tow more. I can understand if you’re going to fully use the off-roading capabilities of the power wagon but 99% of people never will.
    I was excited to hear this package coming out because I can get a more off-road capable truck with real towing and payload numbers. Yes I know that is specific to the gasoline motor and that is what I’m wanting because the diesel options are way over priced and the emission systems are a nightmare. For the average consumer this package is amazing in my opinion. I still struggle to see how a diesel is a good option in a 2500 series truck anyways. To get max payload and towing with those you have to have a 2wd pickup anyways. If you look back the tow and payload ratings of some of the older diesels like the 3rd gen Cummins you might be surprised how low they were legally rated. Most people are towing illegal numbers and don’t realize it or just don’t care. Atleast now they can get their Cummins in a more off-road truck package from the factory.
    What ram really needs to do is offer the rebel package across their lineup so you could get a 3500 rebel and even a aisin transmission. But I guess we can all dream about that happening.

    • @GettysGarage
      @GettysGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I guess why I'm shocked by this is because I thought the rebel was going to suffer some off road performance in comparison to the power wagon but in return the consumer would be able to get a Cummins, more payload and more towing all while still being a somewhat off-road capable truck.
      I see your point and completely agree that diesel are overpriced especially with the price of diesel atm. I guess I just thought ram was going to give this truck some stock stiff suspension with off-road shocks but also give it some off-road goodies like a locking difff and some nice all-terrain tires.
      I should also mention like the gas engine in this truck is clearly the best option so if you were always wanted a gas engine in the rebel I see no issue with that. I was more or less disappointed with he Cummins equipped rebel HD numbers because for years we heard people complain they wanted a Cummins equipped power wagon and so I was excited for the Cummins option but now it seems like kind of a waste. just my humble opinion though lol

  • @danielbruno2631

    well the reason why it all has do with suspension and obviously the frame limitations to weight, which make sense as you're putting a heavier engine into the same frame of any other 2500 series, well that's how at least i think, and sahring what i think is the reason behind it. IMO specially when you want that off road peformance with a softer suspenssion, weather we like it or not we have to trade suspension stiffness for more optimized travel and so on, at least they are doing a 2500 with a cummins that is off road worth it. I don't personally own any RAMS, I have a 2021 Toyota tacoma TRD OFF Road with LB, I had rent one before buying my tacoma and ever since felt in love with RAM trucks, if I did not had chosen to go with yota, but if there is any other brand that sometimes makes me want to trade my yota is a 3500 single with a cummins to build an off roader out of it. but anyways I always watch your content keep up the good work and sharing the knowledge out there and spreding. Be safe, God bless

  • @swampy886

    Pretty terrible payload, but remember all of the Ram Cummins trucks have worse payload numbers than the gas versions because that Cummins engine is extremely heavy which takes payload to carry. Also the Cummins is going to be terrible off-road with all that extra weight on the front end. There is no point in this truck, it’s silly.

    • @GettysGarage
      @GettysGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The issue is that you’re trying to expect high towing numbers with softer off-road suspension. And that’s never going to happen. I have a 2020 ram power wagon and was on a trip with a f250 tremor and I’ll tell you 100% that tremor road like dog shit off-road compared to the power wagon. It was 10x stiffer and you felt everything on the trails even aired down to 17psi. But that’s why the tremor can tow what it advertised, cause of the stiffer suspension.

  • @CoryTheCanadian
    @CoryTheCanadian 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe now all the people asking for Cummins in the power wagon will finally understand that the payload and tow rating has nothing to do with the motor anymore, it’s suspension and tires mostly oh and overall weight of the truck lol.
