I thought I posted about this ages ago lol oops. This was my entry for the Emil Shop Song contest and it got 8th place! I got a poster signed by Yoko Taro from it and its honestly one of the coolest things I own.
He lost his sister, lost his body, was cursed with petrifying eyes, Lost both Nier and Kaine. And in the span of 9000 years, he's managed to finally come up with a jingle for his planned business. The lad.

I'm really curious what's gonna happen with the new replicant ending, knowing that. Does automata directly refer to Nier in reference to project gestalt?
@@theargawalathing I think it refers specifically to Papa Nier and Brother Nier in separate weapon dialogues, since both are canon according to Yoko Taro, and refers to Project Gestalt in both vague and direct terms. Not sure if it ever refers to them both together at the same time, but it's been a minute. The events of the first game are definitely canonical though, since it's why the Popola and Devola in Automata are disliked so much. Not sure what new replicant ending you're talking about as I havent gotten there yet but I'd assume it's still canon compliant regardless--I'm guessing(or at least hoping) it more clearly establishes how the two age versions of Nier coexist in the timeline.
The best part about this is that it's literally Emil's Sacrifice in the happiest tune. So he just turned one of the saddest songs in Nier into a store sale song.

I remember when I first started hacking the tower with 9S (before the twins arrive) and as I was engaging in this epic battle against machines while trying my best to also hack into the tower, I could hear Emil's shop theme fade in and out coz the little bastard happened to be driving around near the crater. Best.

Imagine if, at the end of the game, it’s revealed that Emil was the one orchestrating the endless conflict between the androids and machines. All just so he’d have an endless stream of customers willing to buy his weapons; granting his lonely immortal existence a purpose.

Knowing this shares the same melody as "Emil's sacrifice" makes me feel so sad. The original Emil went through so much and all is left now is the lunar tear, connected to vague memories of bittersweet times with people that he once cared a lot (Kainé and Nier). Oh boi, I can't wait for the release of Nier Replicant! Sadness and existencial crisis here I come!

Been a fan since drakengard 1. And I loved playing NIER on ps3. Seeing Emil again put a smile on my face once again. He has been through so damn much. Poor little guy. Also he is earth greatest hero. Fought an alien invasion practically by himself by making copies of himself. Emil had to give up parts of his memory that were not related to combat in order to do his best to fight off them Alien Invaders.
