If you are fly fishing during a may fly hatch, you can cut a little piece of cloth off your shirt tail, put it on a hook, and have good success catching fish. I discovered this at Kentucky Lake on a day when some willow trees ate all my popping bugs.
My dad would experiment with different baits, he liked yellow jackets right before they hatched. We caught LOTS of catfish with those. He would have to bait my line but he didnt seem to mind. We ate a lot of catfish in summer.😊 your son's will think about these fishing trips all their lives 🥰 later 👋
We salt our hickory shad whole in baggies or Tupperware and drop it straight into freezer for next fishing trip. We don't cut them up until needed and find the salt toughen up the bait enough to drift fish and catch plenty of catfish. Shad are so fragile when not fresh but salt coating does the trick. Don't have skipjack so I can't compare it to your bait.
The McGie's don't even need bait to catch fish that's how good they are lol I'm glad to see the salting of the bait fish worked out really well . That is a really great way to use the old salt that you would throw out . Thanks for sharing and have a great day !
Never seen a fish bite a unbaited hook before! That fish on the grill looked delicious. I'm nothing if not a fish eater, lol. Always enjoy your fishing videos! Have a good day Brother.
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures yes they will we actually put them in a saltwater and ice filled cooler for a couple of days and then freeze them whole and cut them up with a knife or hatchet.
Genius in progress ☺️ now you'll need to make some old school bait I use to buy "pork rinds " they looked like 🦎 lizard or 🐢 turtles or minnows 🐟 in a little jar and back 40 years ago we're expensive.they definitely are higher now but still as effective.. since you have pork skin available and know how to process them you and the boys could make a bunch a package them up ,plus they stay on your hook 🪝 and most times reuse over and over ..id get lazy and leave them on my fishing pole and next time I went fishing cast it into the pond or River and they get soft and catch me more fish 🐟 I even thought about super gluing some acorns on a hook for bait because id see undigested acorns in catfish or bass's stomach.. another thing you can experiment with since my fishing days are over unfortunately.
I salted down some flounder heads. I thought it would make a good bait. I didn't catch anything on it. I set 25 hooks and the live bream and even the salted mullet caught.
Just so you know all God's creatures require salt I have never bought a bass bait that did not have salt in it and about that bear hook always thought you just caught bear with a bear hook 😁😆😋😉👍🐝

😂😂😂 Those willows though!!! They have a ravenous appetite for anything with a hook on it!!!😂😂😂
Looks like you all are having a good trip
We are! I can’t wait to share everything!!!
Great video and experiment Micah. Hope you all have a blessed week my friend.
Thanks brother! You too!
Good times!
We loved it!
Memories for the lads.

I’ve got a gallon zip-loc bag full of salted shad right now just waiting to go!😁
Next time, when. You package them.. Add a little star Annis oil.
Hey that’s a great idea! Thanks!
Thank you for the video I really enjoyed it
You’re welcome!

That’s true!😂😂😂. We’re very excited about it!
👍

Thanks so much!
i use live bluegill to bait lines
Definitely a winner!
Nice brother thanks for the video 👍
Any time!
What a great idea. Another use for curing salt.
Absolutely! I absolutely loved this experiment!

Thanks Ken!

Absolutely! Fish is one of the best things to eat!!! We had a blast! The boys would be happy if we made more fishing videos!😂😂😂
I'm loving the new fishing videos lately.
We love fishing!
If you salt the skipjack whole like you did the minnows it will keep the blood in them till you cut them
That’s true! I wonder if it would penetrate through those scales?
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures yes they will we actually put them in a saltwater and ice filled cooler for a couple of days and then freeze them whole and cut them up with a knife or hatchet.
I use salt minnows ice fishing when I can't catch fresh bait
Awesome!
First cc? 😮
Oh my!😂😂
The early bird catches the worm. Well, I'm five hours ahead of you guys, so I'm not that Early a bird 😁👍🏻
That’s a great discovery Micah. I love watching you and the boys catching fish. Especially on a trotline.
We love it so much!!
Here on the Eastern shore of Maryland we salt bull lips also chicken necks and use them to catch blue crabs
Bull lips huh? I wonder how those taste fried with Camp Dog??😂😂😂
That's a good idea, I wonder how salting chicken livers would work...I think I may try it.
I’m sure it would work well!
My Grandfather use to salt blue gill perch would jar them and Buried them in the ground for keeping cool.
For human consumption?
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures no sir Bait.
Oh ok! Thanks!
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures same thing Catfish bait in California.
Salted shrimp works good to
Oh really?! I need to try that!
I've never had luck with salt cured bait. However it wasn't salt that was used for curing bacon! That could be the trick.
You never know!😂
You are so much better on the grill than last time 😅
😂😂😂😂😂
I can’t help but laugh this catching a cat with no bait is just too funny
We couldn’t believe it!!!😂😂😂
As I'm getting ready for work I'm thinking... it would be alot better if I was fishing! 🤣
You aren’t wrong!!😂
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work.🙄

Lots of experiments need to be done! It’s a lot of fun!!!
That bacon will have them all fighting over one hook... 😂
Probably so! I want some bacon flavored fish!😂
I see you all doing this makes me want to sell my little piece of heaven and move out there.
There’s land for sell in Tennessee but my goodness it’s overpriced!!
Goes to show that even catfish like their food seasoned with salt lol
Guess I should try Camp Dog 😂😂😂

Our skipjack head stayed on the hook for days with no catches as well
Where do you buy your salt.
Ag 1 Co-Op in Livingston Tn
Yes they do but they some durn good bait.
Yes indeed!!
Did making the footage black and white not work for blood anymore?
It might with fish. Definitely not with deer
3rd! I'm alive!
I was beginning to wonder!!!😂😂😂
Where have you been?
I've been around! Anyone seen Tex?
4th!
Look at those profiles logging in one after the next!!😂😂😂
