I actually love my 8053s, I admit they are kinda heavy and clunky, and I’m sure the 1461 is more comfortable. But I can wear my 8053 for a full day of walking/travelling and have minimal soreness at the end of the day. Surprisingly the most uncomfortable spot is the top of my foot, the crease where the foot bends sort of dug into the top of my foot so I had to use wonder balm it and work the area with my fingers. Much better now. Other than that top part I get no blisters and has no break in period. I sized up and wear with a dr scholls arch support, heel slips, and thick socks so that could be why haha.
I can’t bend the toes but that part doesn’t bother me as much as the back. The back slips off so its constantly rubbing and that Causes the pain and blisters. When I sized up, it slipped more and The rubbing got worse. 😫
I’m also a 6.5 in most shoes and I’d recommend sizing up on anything that has a quad platform, especially if it’s a low cut style. My reasoning is that the sole will never bend so it’ll never fully break in and you will get heel slippage no matter the size. If you size down, like most people recommend if you go I to a dr martens store, your heel will be pressed up against the back of the shoe and there will be a lot more friction. If you have some space at the heel, it’ll slip but won’t rub much. Sizing down works for me in the normal sole boots and the 1461 (I did get blisters at first with those but once the sole bends it’ll stop), but I had to replace all my quads such has the Bethans and 1461 quad with a 7.
if you get the 1461, you should definitely get the highest platform. They look way cuter. I bought 1461 yesterday in the highest platform and I’m in LOVE!
are they comfortable to wear all day? and what’s the pain like afterwards? i’m thinking of getting them for school as i have a pair of jadons and would like an ankle shoe :D
@@yeehawtexasfanpage yes they are comfortable but I still haven’t broke them in yet since there so chunky. It might feel a little odd at first but yeah
Loved my 8053. They were so painful and it's my first time to get super big blisters on the ball of my feet. I wear it for 15 minutes and I have to recover for 2weeks. I'd say they're injuries rather than blisters. I was never able to break into them and sold them.😢
Those are 8053 QUAD (platform), you can get 8053 with the typical sole too and with soft leather. Similarly, the 1461 QUAD would have the chunky platform. If your heels slip, which they should not, I would say the shoes might be too big and you may need to size now or if sizing down is too small you could use insoles to tighten them a bit, the leather will mould and get softer and the platforms do bend easier as you break them in. The balm also helps soften the leather, most people think it doesn’t do anything but from experience they do help a lot as well as keeping the leather looking fresh and moisturised. They are painful at first but they get more comfortable. I used to work at Docs and it takes me about 2-3 weeks to break in new docs wearing them almost everyday straight for 8 hours.

@@haneen2746 No worries! The 1461 has 3 sole heights: classic (like in the video), bex which is a small platform, and platform which I believe is the highest you can get in this style. All have the same upper styling.

Thanks for the review. It is a bit misleading as the 8053 can get the same sole then the 1461. I have mine for 15 years and are comfy. Not the best shoes but taking good care of them can go a long way
I'm new to Doc Martens .. but I already have 4 pairs BUT I'm not sure if I love them or hate them, maybe its the style I prefer being uncomfortable. I wish I seen this video before I bought my 8053, I have the same issue with the back of the shoe slipping off and rubbing against the back of my ankles even with my correct size. I thought I was the only one having this issue lol.
I bought these exact shoes. I started with the 1461s and then returned for 8053 platforms. The 1461s fit like a glove but the 8053s feel barely snug and my feet keep slipping in them. I can easily take them off when they’re tied up even tho I just got them and the top of my foot where the end of the tongue is is the only place getting irritated but it’s from my feet slipping all the time. Should I return for a size down? (My feet are usually a 9.5 and I got a 9)

I polish them and they look great. I’ve worn them to just about every concert, muddy field you name it. No shoe can withstand that. These do. The padded collar is awesome. Easy to slip on. I’ve never had problems with comfort on them. I have bought four pairs of Docs since then - 1461 you have to shoe horn them can’t just slip them on. Never really broke in too well. Btw if you get the English ones get one size lower (13 US Is 12 UK). And the wonder balsam is the best $10 you’ll ever spend for break in and keeping them shiny.
