    Ahhh the stairwell waiting area to LCY, know it well. Although I've had the pleasure of way more than 5 minutes there. I didn't even realise Swiss flew from there, noted for future trips. The one thing I can't work out was why the guy was bolting it to the transfer bus, we'll never know...

    Lovely work, as always.
    Swissair was fantastic, Swiss less so. I think on-board food is good, as is crew service. I like the T2 Lufthansa lounge at LHR, but found the business class lounges Zurich very disappointing both from a customer service point of view and hot food offerings.
    My last experience was in November when I'd picked Swiss for an A340 trip to JNB and the equivalent changed to a horrible 777, with uncomfortable beds, hot and cramped. No more Swiss for me.

    • @MattsPlanet

      The Zurich senator lounges are ok but the business one is disappointing.... Toying with a Swiss First booking but it would need to be perfect to make it worth the cost!

      @MattsPlanet The offering in Swiss First looks wonderful. As you say, though, very pricey.

    Thanks, Matt.
    If it's a better ride, why not? It could be argued that the extra journey time through ZRH was balanced by your not having to get out to LHR and face any surprises they might have for you.
    I was flummoxed to see the "Grüezi B" sign at ZRH. I thought that "Grüezi" meant "Hello" in Swiss, like "Grüess Gott". Perhaps a native Swiss can enlighten me.

    Tiny correction, hate to be pedantic. The aircraft was delivered as a Bombardier CS300, the A220 name was bestowed on the aircraft when Airbus bought the program.

    • @MattsPlanet
      @MattsPlanet  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! You know what.... I googled the Bombardier purchase after I spotted the plane's history to see when it happened.... Re-reading it now I see I completely missed the dozen of so references to "A220 (formerly CSx00)"!!!! Of course it wouldn't have had the same name before Airbus bought it.... Thanks again - if you need me I'll be standing in the corner for an hour...

    Thanks for the upload. The whole experience made me feel depressed. Tacky airport, tacky on board product masquerading as Business Class. Short hall really sucks and is rarely worth the extra cost on any airline. My only experience with Swiss short haul LHR to ZRH must have been a freak - 1-2-1 layout, lie flat bed, wonderful. Clearly that was not the norm.

Indeed my Ethiopian Airways videos did really well so I am on the lookout for opportunities to get further into Africa - it is one of my less visited continents.... Business Class short haul flights within Europe are not worth the extra money that people are paying regardless of airlines. The seat size is the same as Economy and the only main difference is the seat next to you is vacant. It’s better to just fly Economy and use the money saved to pay for the out-of- pocket expense to eat at an airport restaurant instead of eating at the overcrowded business class lounges.

    • @MattsPlanet
      @MattsPlanet  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think that's correct ex-LCY. BA flies Embraer 190s which are 2-2 all the way through. Indeed BA is uncompetitive from LCY as they don't hold a seat open next to you in the business cabin.

    Great review like always! I’ve taken a few trips with Swiss the past two years. The great thing is like you mentioned the Senator Lounge for both Schengen and International, the food just hits the right spot and the Alpine lounge! Älplermagronen - cheese, cream, bacon, macaroni and apple sauce. If you're stuck up a mountain for winter, that's what you are going to have to eat. Push comes to shove, you sweep the barn floor and you have Muesli.

      @@MattsPlanet The apple sauce is also that winter thing. You can store apples but they go a bit shrivelled. You need to cook them. Also you can bottle and store the sauce.
      When its all done well its a great dish.
      Bircher Muesli done properly is also great.
      On the list to try if you are around ch are Zürcher Geschnetzeltes, Bündner Nusstorte, Birnbrot [if you like Christmas cake etc].
      Theres also a dried and rehydrated green bean dish that sounds awful, but is delicious.
      Plus you have the cheese, surprisingly good bread.
      In the south there are some stunning places that just serve risotto.

You flew on SWISS International Air Lines IATA code LX part of the Lufthansa Group. LX is not SR sadly. Past flying with SR 1986 had real First Class, Business and Economy on A310 - 221 LHR ZRH sector and ongoing with the DC10-30ER to British Hong Kong. Your service with SWISS LX Business 2021 does not match of the past high quality Swissair SR economy service in1986 that was super glassware no plastic. How the industry has changed!

    Great review! I live in Luxembourg and have family in Poland so I have an option to travel home with Swiss via Zurich. Unfortunately, more often than not, Swiss uses wet lease for some of its flights from/to Luxembourg with Air Baltic, Helvetic and (my least favorite) Edelweiss. The service on those three to me is worse than on Swiss. But then again Zurich is indeed a great airport to transfer - and with Miles and More Frequent Traveler I am getting starting next year, should be even more fun for me.

      They used to do a very good evening meal thing. A focaccia bread, lots of veg, and and a little bottle of balsamic dressing to add. Glass of red - ideal
      It's clever because there are no dietary restrictions, quick to serve. Then you do the drinks, and in that hour period you can do the plane.
      BA used to do a similar breakfast. Muffin, yoghurt and a small fruit salad. All in a stick. No dietary issues. Walk down the plane hand them out. Then do the teas and coffees. Again a good strategy for a flight.
      I'm surprised actually that the cheapy carriers haven't cottoned on to the idea. It's cheap and cheerful, and puts you that little bit above the others.

    I first flew in Swiss many years ago, from Birmingham to Lisbon (via Zurich) and it was a mixed emotions experience.
    Once i arrived at Birmingham Airport from Manchester Picadilly, I find out that my flight was 2.5 hours behind schedule (I was supposed to have a 6 hour layover in ZHR).
    Once the plane arrives (a now retired BAE 146), it unloads thr previous passengers, we board and are held back because a passenger didn't make it to the gate.
    Fast forward an hour, we arrive at Zurich Airport (a remote gate), got on the bus and made my was to an overloaded immigration desk.
