    THANK YOU!! I have been working on my last homework problem for over an hour!!!!!! I watched a few videos and yours is the only one that explained each step and where you got each number. You didn't just toss the formula and then work it. With the formula you still explained where each number came from. I finally was able to finish my homework and move on. Thank you!! Factoring: A General Strategy (A General Approach to Factoring) [fbt] th-cam.com/video/WQ2uqsmapLw/w-d-xo.html

  • @alexp3428
    @alexp3428 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just a quick question, for certain questions you simply conclude that the final trinomial should never be considered for factorization (as it is prime), while for others you take the time to check to see if they are further factorable? Simply put, is the resulting final trinomial portion of the answer always prime by nature.. or do you have to check at all times to confirm? Thank you in advance, great videos btw!

    • @FortBendTutoring
      @FortBendTutoring  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Alex Paralovo You are correct. The quadratic trinomial factor is always prime if you have already factored the GCF (greatest common factor) before factoring the sum/difference of cubes.

  • @sebastianhuni4535
    @sebastianhuni4535 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mr. Whitt! I'm currently "reviewing" to take some kind of test to determine my level of math for future years of college. There is a list, which includes "factoring" which is not specific. Until what lesson do you think I should review in order to take such test? Nice and detailed video by the way!

    • @FortBendTutoring

    • @FortBendTutoring
      @FortBendTutoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Josh H Always start by factoring out the GCF. In this case, you must factor out a 9 before dealing with the sum of cubes.

    @uiticus 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    In the sum of cubes , shouldn't all the factors have a positive sign? Should it not therefore be: (a^2+ab+b^2)? You have a negative ab in the second expression/\. Should it not be a positive ab?

    • @FortBendTutoring
      @FortBendTutoring  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the factorization in the video is correct. If you use your version, the product will not equal the original. You can verify the pattern used in the video in any math textbook or online reference.

    • @uiticus
      @uiticus 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay, thank you.

    • @uiticus
      @uiticus 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am still confused. When I distributed the factors for the sum of cubes, i get a final result of A cube + B cube, or A^3 +B^3. But A cube + B cube is not the same as the quantity (A + B)^3. If A is 2 and B is 3 then 2 cube + 3 cube yield 35. But the quantity (2 + 3) cubed yields 125..

    • @FortBendTutoring
      @FortBendTutoring  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +uiticus You're correct. The expressions A³ + B³ ≠ (A + B)³. A³ + B³ = (A + B)(A² - AB + B²). It's not supposed to be equivalent to anything else.
